A muslim flight attendant won't serve alcohol. She got suspended. She was not muslim and served alcohol when she got the job, then she converted, stopped doing that part of her job and is now on unpaid leave. She is suing for accommodation.

I think she needs to find another job. Same way the clerk who won't issue marriage certificates should find another job.

So Muslims are precluded from working in any store/industry that sells/distributes alcohol, pork, or puppies...

Christians are excluded for any employment that involves gay marriage.

But it is not discrimination, it is equal rights.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?

It's a choice?

Yes, find another job.

If your job has something that conflicts with your religious beliefs...for instance, I could never work somewhere that a voice is autotuned as a personal belief.

Reminds me of Terry Pratchett writing a vampire that keeps complaining about hostile working conditions, though he works in a stake factory, a holy water factory...

She knew that serving alcohol was part of the job when she converted. She made the conversion voluntarily and should leave the job the same way, if she disagrees with the functions of the job.

I concure, she needs to get a new job.

It's not discrimination. IT is a choice. You choose your religion for starters and lets face it in the real world you choose what rules in your stupid fairy tale you think are relevant in some way.

I didn't know Muslims were against puppies. I honestly didn't know they couldn't serve alcohol. I know they can't touch pork but at least in theory I thought a Muslim in a hazmat suit could serve pork. I'll have to look that up.

Yet, the Catholic Church is told that it must change to accommodate its "public" hiring...

Does there not seem to be some conflict here?

So you'd hire a mechanic to work at your garage knowing full well that their religon forbids them from working on cars?

Of course there's conflict.

Some of it is simply stupid conflict.

The Church when it deals with "public" has to deal with "public" requirements.

Dogs are unclean. I thought that by now everyone knew that with our extensive Muslim outreach.

But, as I just pointed out, that when people 'chose' to find employment with a religious organization, then the organization is forced, under government mandate to provide them with goods and services that are against their teachings.

I think that is much worse than telling someone that you cannot work there, especially when that un-hired employee can turn around and sue for discrimination based upon their (lack of) religious belief system even when it is secular statism.

I disagree.

In our culture, the church has traditionally enjoyed separate, but equal, status. Now it is being told that it must subjugate itself to the state. No good can come of this...

One of the biggest draws for Christianity is the forgiveness of sins. Any sins, all sins, bring them to Jesus and He'll forgive them. Everybody's a sinner, according to the Bible, and nobody can lead a sinless life. So what is the point of ruining your career and driving you and your family into destitution, when you can simply do your job and demand forgiveness after you punch out?

Religoues agencies can have morality clauses for their employees which are completely legal

government agencies cannot

you're trying to compare apples to chainsaws

No conflict, just RW hysterical bullshit.

Law says you can't discriminate against them, doesn't force you to cater to their bullshit.

So you'd hire a mechanic to work at your garage knowing full well that their religon forbids them from working on cars?

No he's saying the big evil government makes the garage not discriminate....so they have to accommodate these twats otherwise they get creamed with discrimination bullshit.

Which is partly true in only the most vague sense....but mostly RW hysterical bullshit.

No, it's being told unless you have legal exclusivity when it comes to religous exemption, you cant terminate your employees

otherwise you can be fired for having different religous beliefs by any employer in any organization or business

The church has always had a quotes from Jesus that might help:

"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's."

They don't even pay taxes. However, they do take tax money and engage in outreach and secular employment.

They should render, and without the disingenuous bullshit that has been going on.

Don't like gay marriage? That's cool. Don't have one. Just...it's now the law of the land and render unto Caesar.

Don't like abortion? That's cool. Don't have one. Just...don't block funding and make up lies about the providers.

Don't like birth control? Fine. Don't use it. However...if you have a secular employee...do let her have it, thanks.

I can't actually think of any legal requirement that is a deeper burden on a churchgoer than any other citizen, unless those citizens are being douches.

This wasn't based on a law.

This was based by judges defying the law, because, you know, they can...

;)

How many divisions does the court command. As part Cherokee, I understand exactly the power of the POTUS.

"Let's see if Justice Marshall can enforce his ruling."

That was about coin.

Jesus was an end of the world preacher and thought that none of that mattered because Gawd was soon going to kill them all and then sort them out.

;) ;)

I think Jesus was wiser than that.

There's a whole bunch of cool stuff he said, you know, compassion and loving neighbors and understanding, healing the sick.

It's a shame people haven't read it.

If you refuse to hire them, do they sue for discrimination?

And what if they lie to get hired?

if someone refuses to do their job for which they are hired, they of course can be fired

the only way they could win their discrimination case is if they showed they were in fact emminently qualified to do the job in the first place

which they are on record as stating they aren't

you really havent thought this through

what law did they defy? the " lets pay employees for intentionally refusing to do their jobs" law?

sorry to break it to you, but that law doesn't exist
