My husband Clark was the station manager of the small local cable news station where we recently had to move due to a very embarrassing and humiliating experience that happened while live –taped for broadcast news program.
When Mavis Bentworth quit as the in-studio weather reporter just moments before a news broadcast, I happened to be visiting the news station and Clark asked me to fill in. I have never acted or been in front of a camera or studied meteorology, but Clark had been hired to bring the struggling cable news show out of its ratings basement, so I agreed to do it. I was nervous and did my best. Clark said I would only need to fill in for the last two days of the week and he’d have a new weather person after that.
That was over six months ago. Maybe because of how comfortable I quickly became at it and maybe because – and I don’t want to sound conceited – the ratings boost that would happen during my weather segments, but Clark stopped looking for a replacement. I tend to ignore Colton – the senior news anchor who is handsome for his age – and Jace – who comments on sports and is just as arrogant as you would expect for a ex-jock in his early 30’s - who both think my husband hired me because I'm his sexy wife. Colton resents me for how my popularity and my looks get the most attention of the broadcast. And Jace does also, because of how I was bitchy to him when he tried flirting with me at a party.
With the news program's ratings are very low (except for my weather segments) and Clark under pressure to bring up the newscast's viewership, he's learned there were two network executives due to visit sometime during the week to watch the news program. I was surprised when Clark suggests to me that for the upcoming week, I wear outfits that are "a little sexier." I know how important the cable station is to my husband (and yes, I will admit that the idea of being seen looking my best by the two visiting executives and being hired for their prime time network newscast was exciting) so I agreed to start wearing sexier outfits at the beginning of the next week. I shared some glimpses of what I wore.
