No offense to anyone...just my experience. Not saying men from these regions can't be SMOKING HOT!!! It's just - when ONLY listening to a voice/ accent separate from a person, this is what does it for me. (I guess I spend a lot of time on the phone for work...)

Ultimately it is the whole package (hee hee) - personality, scent, mood, humor, etc. that need to click. But if we're talking only the accent ... some turn me on and others don't.

Turn ons:
British accents
Italian accents
Aussie ...
Irish
Croatian
Southern (US) but not too red-neck ... just a slow southern drawl
Minnesota/North Dakota
(I am sure there are more)

Turn offs
- Philly/South Jersey
- Canadian
- Indian
- New Jersey/Long Island

Turn ons are women with the following accents...

Irish
Scottish
English
Irish (Not an accident that it's here twice)
Mid West USA
Southern USA

Turn offs

New York

Women with midwest accents? Do tell!

I'm curious about the midwest accents you find to be a turn on....that's a big area, could you give me an idea of what that accent would sound like? Maybe name a part in a tv show or movie for a reference.

As a woman from southern Wisconsin, it might not be bad to know if my voice is a deal breaker. :p

I agree with most, except Minnesota/Dakotas, and midwest: they just sound semi-retarted in my opinion. But I am shocked your missing anything in the Spanish/Latina category! I would also add Russian and possibly French depending. However, bearing in mind that for any generalization like "Irish" there are many regional dialects of each and some are very very different from others.

I don't know what Wisconsiners...Winconsonites...Winconsonarians..sounds like.

I can't think of a TV show or movie that features what I'm talking about. I'm sure there are thousands...

I don't think any accent turns me off, so long as the person is fairly articulate. I do have some favorites though:

French
Canadian
Irish
English (of course there are a wide variety here)
Russian
Oz and Kiwi

Good morning, also from southern Wisconsin, and I am on the phone alot for work. Mostly with southern folks. I get told I have a very distinctive accent. (and not at all semi-retarded!!) I am told we have a forceful tone, strong.
It's the German / Norwegian heritage in me.

I have to laugh a little at the people who divide up the different States according to accent, yet lump ALL of Canada under simply "Canadian".

I absolutely sound nothing like an East Coaster, or a French Canadian, nor do I sound like our many native peoples.

....and I certainly don't say any of the words you Americans tease us aboot!

-wink-

I agree *smiles*

If I am just talking with someone their voice doesn't make much of a difference. If I was going to play on voice with them it's a whole different ball game.

I've been told my accent is light enough to be sexy but when I get angry or talk really fast it is obnoxious.

Apparently I'm not well travelled enough to differentiate accents from different states. I didn't realize mid-western people have accents? I know they use some strange words but I thought that was about it...

When I mentioned Canadian, I meant the BC accent, I should have been more clear. I also like some of the middle provinces accents as well; they are similar to the US states where they are above (a bit). I have little experience with Eastern Canada.

But your point is well taken, nearly every country has many (very) different regional accents. But often there is a "high accent" for the country (look at the national news for the example).

I think it depends on the woman.
I usually like british accents but my buddy went out with one and she was the most annoying person to talk to. Her voice still haunts me.
Doesn't matter to me.

I think the term you're looking for is "cheesehead"

Canadians don't have ACCENTS. haha. You crazy people.

Hot accents:
Men with Southern Drawls. ;)
Polish
Italian
Spanish
Australian
Greek

I was talking to someone on the phone once and he said I had the "cutest northern accent". I was like, "WTF is that?? Northerners have accents?" :D

As for myself, Brits and Aussies get my butter churning.

Turn ons:-
AMERICAN! Lol I like how Californians talk, Midwest, Texan, Southern drawl
RP - Received Pronunciation (posh British basically) like Colin Firth and Henry Cavill
Southern Ireland - Belfast is quite harsh, Dublin is a lilt and sexy and soothing (I work with an Irish guy and he has a fan club because of his voice - well he's quite hot, too) lol
And I like lots of regions of the UK Geordies, cockneys lovely

I don't generally like Scottish - sorry Sciwi

And I like our accent - welsh

I love to hear (get turned on by) guys with New York accents, British, Irish, German, French, East European, mid-Atlantic.

I honestly cannot stand to hear a Scots accent or an Aussie accent. Total and complete turn-off!

I have to say that I like all accents. That said Deep southern states turns me off! unlike some here who dont' like a good new york accent for shame! lol

My favs are in no order.

French.
German.
British.
Irish.
Assie.
South Afican.
and New York!:D

French-Canadian is a turn off.

Jersey is a tricky one. It depends on who's doing it. If it's Adrianna from the Sopranos, or Marisa Tomei from My Cousin Vinny, then it's pretty hot.

I'm not so sure for me it's an accent that turns me on or off..
but more a tone..

deep, sure , confident voice in a man :)

For a female it's the tone that sounds like a tv reporter
intelligent, not high pitched , but not too deep.. good pronunciation
a bit sultry, sexy..

Tones and ways of speech that would totally turn me off would be the 'valley girl' talk.. 'like totally dude' , the 'gangsta talk' kind of like 'cool dat'. and the tone of voice in a man that shows no confidence.
