is an amazing book!

i read it about a year ago..it's written by nick hornsby....he also wrote high fidelity...it's this great little book..about love, life, happiness..and so much more..a movie has been made (starring hugh grant) i hope it lives up to the book..but..i'm not holding my breath...

has anybody else read this book?

high fidelity and fever pitch made great books and great movies.... this is yet another one i'll need to stick on my list

I heard they're good. Is the movie good too? I am considering seeing it.

A Child called It, Lost Boy, A Man called Dave

Read these? Outstanding books and quick reads. Written by Dave Pelzer. Thought to be possibly the worst case of child abuse recorded in California.

I read a Child called It on the bus, bad mistake as it's a tear jerker. At one point his mother locks him into the bathroom with a tub full of amonia for hours...he nearly dies.

Sad but uplifting books. Highly recommend them.

i'm gonna hope the movies good..but the book is really awesome..i think everyone should read it...it's just great!

I didn't realize About A Boy was a book first. I'll definitely have to look for it but I think I'll wait till after I see the movie. Movies hardly ever live up to the books and I really want to see the movie (I worship Hugh Grant) without having to sit there and be upset that the movie isn't following the book.

Did that make any sense at all? I think it may be time I get to bed. :)

Read all of his books and met him in a pub in london

I lived in the area where all of his books are set

Dissapointed that the movies were set in america and not britain. It takes the oomph out of the books

Hugh grant is not the stereotype male brit he ruins the film

I agree with you - a great book - but I just can't see Hugh Grant doing it justice so I am not going to see the movie!!!

I haven't read that book, ameliashornee. I plan on getting it today because I would like to read it before I see the movie. The other books he's written are just amazing. I can't wait to read this one, now. Thank you for sharing.

Nick Hornby

As so often happens the film based on the book doesn't live up to expectations. This goes for "About a Boy" which I went to see last Thursday. I have also just finished reading "How To Be Good"; his latest book, which I think is his best to date.

It's on my "to do" list. I heard him interviewed a couple of months ago by Terri Gross on "Fresh Air" on NPR. I haven't read anything by him yet, but I loved the film of "High Fidelity."

Film is a different medium than writting, and it's unfair--but inevitible--to compare them. I've only seen one film that was 'better' than the book, and that was Peter Seller's "Being There." But then Jerzy Kozinski wrote the screenplay too, so it was like he had another draft in him.

i think this film is set in England...not america..i'm not positive though..but..from the trailer..it seems everyone has an english accent...

i didn't know he had another book out..i will def. have to get it this weekend..his stuff is so easy to read..and so enjoyable...

profound even :D
