Abortion was the leading cause of death worldwide in 2019, according to figures released from Worldometers.info, a website that uses reporting from the world’s governments to track demographics and vital statistics.

LifeNews.com, a pro-life website, was among the few outlets to report on the 2019 abortion numbers, which show 42.3 million preborn babies killed worldwide. Worldometers recorded 58.6 million deaths last year from violence, illness and natural causes. Abortion statistics are recorded separately from mortality numbers.

By comparison, 8.2 million from cancer; 5 million from smoking-related illnesses, and 1.7 million to HIV/AIDS. The numbers also record deaths from malaria, alcohol, medical errors, injuries by accident and other factors.

“The abortion number is incomprehensible, but each of those 42 million abortions represents a living human being whose life was violently destroyed in their mother’s womb,” wrote Steven Ertelt and Micaiah Bilger for LifeNews. “Each unborn baby already had their own unique DNA, making them distinct from their mother.”

Basically, this- I've been saying this for years, and nobody ever has a clear answer.

Because I do have one: The Abortion issue is merely a smoke screen. Deep down, the real issue is, control. They want to control sexual freedom, control women's bodies, have a say in how, where, and when (or if) consenting adults have sex. If all abortions were somehow universally outlawed tomorrow, but there was unfettered access to birth control, condoms, pills, etc- these same people would still lobby to have it taken away, and wouldn't stop until all forms of birth control were likewise universally illegal.

And even then, they would probably not stop; they'd want to push for mandatory female circumcision and in-vitro fertilization as the only legal means of conceiving- since people would otherwise still be enjoying sex.

But it is also a thinly veiled smokescreen to act as if the right-wing occupies a moral and ethical high ground. They treat most "post birth" people like shit, so they posture as the champions of "preborn" people as a public relations ploy.
