abbreviations? help...

OK, being a newbie here I need to be brought up to speed on a few customs...

1. Abbreviations?? So far,at the start of stories, I've seen OOC, IC, etc.; what do those mean?

2. Is it customary to jump into a story as a new character? Ask permission? Depends on the original author's first post about the story?

3. Any other info on interactive story writing?

OOC: Out of character, for, well, out-of-character comments you feel might be necessary. IC: In character.

As for posting to a thread, most threads are fairly 'open', and welcome new 'players', though its best to check the first few posts to see if there have been any limits placed, and to check the story/background idea of the thread.
