Does anyone have any ideas about what to do with abandoned stories?

Assign a new editor to them?

Close them?

Make all the authors Trusted?

Send them all to Hel (the cold one)?

lol i just put a post on the other thread about this. I say we try to get in touch with the editors, give them a month to respond then if they dont, put them on here and ask for new editors.

I was originally worried about the ethics of doing this (mostly due to copyrights), but then I found out that author of the threads don't change, including the Introduction, so copyrights are preserved.

If we use the Contact Form under the user link, we should be able to contact anyone whose email is still valid. Just make sure the moderator puts their real address into the message.

what do you mean by "Just make sure the moderator puts their real address into the message."?

Nevermind. I thought messages came from chyoo.com, but the sender's address is in the header, so everything is OK.

I've abandonded both of my stories if anyway wants to sub-editor rights to do something with them I'd be quite happy to let them have it.

So, Dissonance, A Rock Festival, and The Diner are up for grabs?

Are you abandoning chyoo2? Not importing them over to chyoo3?

To make someone Sub-editor, they must be writers on the story. This limits your choices. brownguy20 is the only other author on The Diner. And you are the only author on Dissonance.

Can I ask the reasons for abandoning them?

I'm not abandoning Chyoo just that I have little interest on doing further work on my own creations. I only said two stories though the if you'd been following my posts in other topics you may have noticed my comments about the Dissonance.

After writing the opening part I realised it really could never be an interactive story. I plan on working on a new version of the Dissonance which Iintend to write as an actual novel rather than a piece of online literature.

There must be some other way of giving someone sub-editor rights

Well maybe the right thing to do is to delete Dissonance, and then turn the editor rights over to someone else on the other two if you do not want to keep up with them any more. I would be happy to take on Rock Festival as I have added to that story.

The good news is that it is easy to change it back so even if someone shows up after their story has been reassigned it will be easy to change it back to the original creator.

I don't know if this is the same, but I have 2 main problems with stories I see on CHYOO.

1) I have/had a bunch of threads that have been "approval pending" for months, & it seems nobody approves OR denies them. (Often, I write a thread with an idea of what to write after that, but I can't if nobody ever approves the first one.)

2) I can't count the # of stories I've seen that the descrip./thing-with-the-title says "Male Or Female", but then, the story Intro has an obvious gender, & you can only change the gender when you add a Thread 2 (if then), which then makes the story confusing.

The first thing you mention would seem to be a ready made list of stories that you could assume the editor job for if you are willing. Not approving threads for months at a time would seem to indicate that the story has been abandoned. Send me a list of them and I will change them unless someone has a major problem with that. It is easy to change back if someone shows up again whom has been MIA for months on end.

The second issue is tougher the person who wrote the story should get that right to begin with. I guess I never even look at that when I am writing for a story and I just go with what the opening thread starts. Again it is easy to change for a moderator if you point out stories in which it is incorrect. We can suggest to the creator/editor to fix it, or if they are MIA go ahead and fix it ourselves.

I'd take The Diner, though I'm not a contributor.

I don't have a problem with reassigning editor status, especially since it's easy to change back.

Under those circumstances, I'd say kdogg13, rideme and Sim8425 are AWOL. I have a few threads that they've never OKed for months. Can I make myself editor of A Medieval Adventure, A Chaperone, and A Highschool Fantasy? I have threads in them all. And certainly A Highschool Fantasy is too good and too many threads to just leave in limbo. At least I'd like to grant myself sub-editor.

In the second matter, I think any new editor could make decisions about the setup info and change it.

Whaddy'all think?

I say go ahead and do it. Especially for A High School Fantasy, as I have several thread lines in that also. I think it is more important for the site to be well tended than anything else if we want to increase the readership and writing activity.

i am just curious, when a moderator changes the writer of the story to someone else, it still says that the original person is the main writer and the new person is a subeditor...does that mean that the main writer can still approve and stuff? If so, thats good. Since that means we could just name a new editor for all the abandoned stories without feeling bad if the author comes back since he still has the power to do everything.

When you replace the editor of a story, the old editor becomes a regular writer, not a sub-editor.

I have upgraded all original editors to sub-editor on the stories I switched the editor on.

Speaking of which, Sim8425 finally contacted me. He's coming back. I returned A Highschool Fantasy to him.

Ok well HEAD cheerleader may need a new editor b/c sweet daisy hasn't approved the threads in a while, i contacted her and i am waiting to see if she replies or not

My story, "Breaking Inhibitions," now lists you as the main author, Torg. I would appreciate having it back.

I know I haven't had a chance to write anything for it in a while, but weveral of the submitting authors have been put on Trusted status, and I do check chyoo as often as I'm able.

Could I have my story back, please?

Done. Glad to have you back.

Thanks... I'd like to be "Back and writing multiple threads per week," but we'll see how much time I have ... <grin>

Hi guys and gals

ok, My humble suggestion is to send a mass email (as distainable as this is), notifying all the emails you have, that Chyoo is back, and to please come back and update threads and stories. Many email addresses will no longer be valid, but I think those who are still there would want to know about it.

I remember a long time ago, reading that if you stop maintaining your stories, someone else may be assigned the Editor status. After the email, if anyone wants to take over Editorship of a story, let them request it from a Mod.

I will be updating my own stories now. :D

May I also suggest:
There was once talk of requiring several thread updates before you can post a story... That might help getting more old stories updated.... :)
But... That may also slow the regrowth of the site. Something to think about anyway.

The new moderators don't have access to all the emails, just the Contact page from the Author's Profile.

Which would be a pain in the ass to do since there is over 10,000 members.

Oh... Well... That sucks. Sounds like the Mods have their hands full. Bits and pieces of a great site. Tons of content, Lots of authors (10,000??? I had no idea.) and a whopping big mess to clean up.

I do not envy your task.

Please let me know if there is anyting I can do to help.
