My ex is always complaining about how stark her yard is.....I planted a butterfly garden for her.....it was coming along nicely...I had planted some Salvia coccinea watered it, fertilized it...seedlings were springing up all over and getting up to size as well, the larger plants growing lush heavy with buds ready to burst forth with brilliant red color, a show to behold.......I go to water the garden today and I find she had weeded the bed......leaving only one scrawny plant and pulling all of them out......so now the garden is greatly diminished and she will not have many flowers and I get to hear her complaining all year about her stark yard........AAAaRrrrrrgh!..........I hate having something that I am nurturing violated.

Sorry to hear that Roberto, really, but tell me,
are you that good at watering and nurturing any stark yard? ;)

<Laughing>, I am pretty good with plants, and stuff......<grinning> people even...although I do not water them.....unless they irritate me......the ex better stay away from me when I have a hose in my hand....um...garden hose that is, for while until I calm myself more..........she already stays away from me as much as possible.:D

Revenge fantasies......<little voice whispering....."take the high road John...take the high road!">

I just cannot figure out how with her entire yard full of weeds when she weeds she pulls up plants I am trying to grow....hmmm....Is she so vindictive?......Naah!.....she would not delibrately do something so mean...
Clarity issue.....denial or reality??????.........Yuk..Yuk! Someone hit me with a two by four maybe it will joggle something loose:rolleyes:

She wiped out what you took time to plant and nurture?

OFF WITH HER HEAD!!!

Maybe some butterfly bushes would be a better alternative for someone that can't tell a seedling from a weed. They're much, much harder to pull out :D

I planted several dwarf lilac bushes a few years ago, the butterflies love them too. When they stop blooming, the butterfly bushes start up for the season. Then the hydrangea bushes.

I've planted mostly perennials... sage, lavender, different colors of salvia, poppies, forget me not's, pink cosmos. The alyssum I planted two summers ago reseeds itself. I enjoy not having to plant every year... with the exception of some geraniums, which won't survive the winter up here.

I had to dig up a bunch of hollyhock last year that I inherited from the previous owner, they were multiplying at an uncanny rate. A lot of them were over 6 feet tall, and as thick as jungle growth. Cutting them down was like sawing through tough bamboo, then I had to dig 2+ feet down to get the roots. I shouldn't have to thin them out again for a few more years... whew!

Arden your yard sounds wonderful!.....I sneak plants in whenever possible, some are in pots that move where ever I move.....I am working on my salvia collection.....I now have three kinds of milkweed....although my A. incarnata is not established yet.........My parents are starting to get some interesting plants in their yard......he...he...I plant wherever I can........:)

Sorry to hear she did that......:( I can't plant anything yet but I love impatiences. I have a few flowering bushes and trees but I can't plant until after May 1st if I want them to live...

Same here... the garden centers don't even have seedlings until about that time. I think our late frost date is mid-May.

Hello 1sexylady, it is good to see you.
Impatiens are really getting to be interesting plants, a lot of variety out there.....there is a new one with tiny flowers I like a lot and the oranges are really nice as well.:)

Now my spelling is not that great but I like the New Ginea Impatients.. They are larger and grow fuller. I like sweet william too. Very pretty purple flower. I just had my back yard done last year so this year I am doing a border around the new fence... I can't wait.

I love working out in the yard particularly at spring where all the birds are singing their songs.....the bright light.......I think I will go out and buy some more nectar plants....I love the butterflies hanging out.

I am the only Irish person I know that doesn't have a green thumb. A green hand, yes, because I just made soda bread and added green food coloring.

Milkweed usually takes off and takes over doesn't it John? I know that I want to grow some bamboo, but it will have to be in containers and inside.

Hello Missingmeds,
I had a brown thumb at one time and when I am learing about a new plant I have not grown before I may kill one or two while learning, but I learn and if it can be grown in my area I can grow it. :)

Milkweed is a little more modest in this part of the country......I have to pamper mine especially when it is the dry season. I have the Mexican Milkweed both the orange and yellow varieties, I planted A. tuberosa last year but it has not come up yet after dying back in the winter. I have a young A. incarnata growing that is not in the ground yet....that one will have pink flowers....
The Monarchs and Queen Butterflies love em.

There are varieties of bamboo that grow pretty far north....I think one that can grow as far north as chicago.....Bamboo has some aggressive varieties and be quite invasive unless it is the clump variety. There are some online sites that sell bamboo if you want to try an outdoor variety.

I saw a site that had black bamboo for sell. It was very dramatic.

Hello Kikmosa, it has been a while since we have crossed paths.:) I have never seen a black variety that would be wonderful as a contrast....I love the golden or yellow varieties of bamboo
