I'd like to just toss the idea out about a possible Litogether on the West Coast. We should keep doing Chicago, definitely, but it might be fun to have one on the West Coast. I'd prefer Portland or Seattle, myself, but I'm open.

Time of year still tbd, city still tbd, I'm just trying to get a sense of what Litizens might be interested in.

So let me just post this and ask people to post their thoughts. Thanks!

John

The main thing working against a west coast Lit is location. Quite a few people drove to Chicago, and it's central location was convenient for many. Depending upon the city you choose, the price of airfare would be a major factor to consider. Any major metropolitan area in California is likely to be expensive, especially since you'd probably have to host a Litogether in the summer. Seattle may not be quite as pricey, but the traffic there is atrocious.

Not trying to burst your bubble, just pointing a few things out. Or maybe my info on airfare and traffic is outdated.

No, I think you're probably quite right: Chicago >is< easy to drive to for a lot of people. Traffic in Seattle still sucks, even worse than when I moved away a few years ago. Flying in to Chicago isn't really a problem for me--it was far more the timing for me this year--but I did want to see if there was enough interest that we might think about something out here as well. This may not go anywhere, but I wanted to ask.

How about flying to San Antonio in late August or September? I've been pondering a Southwest Litogether for a while. We could call it S.Li.T. :p

Like you said, it's just a thought . . . .

ETA: Ah, just saw the poll.

San Antonio's awfully warm at that time. OTOH, the name has a certain charm to it.

Of course, by that reasoning, a Litogether in Seattle would have to be distinguished as being the Wet S.Li.T.

Or Damp S.Li.T. ;) Doesn't really rain that much there, y'know.

A Litogether is an awful lot of work, from what I've observed via Sarah and Pleaz. The idea of the task is daunting enough . . . .

I'd settle for a Damp S.Li.T. :)

Yeah, it's a huge job. I'm just toying with the idea.

3113, Stella and I have tossed this around, too. Personally, I suspect that a LitWest would work best in January. That's the time when our "rainy" season tends to take a break between December and February and the relatively warm weather would attract snowbird Litzer. How about somewhere around John Wayne Airport in OC, SoCal?

LMAO woooooooo my naked coffee made part of the poll!

Anyways, hmmm well as it stands an East Coast one would be more convenient for me

I think Vegas would be quite doable. There are many non-stop flights into that destination, and the accommodations are reasonable since everything's subsidized by the gambling.

Economically a good idea, Imp. I admit to a complete distaste for the whole town but that's just d'cranky ol' bear talkin'.

With how much we tend to stay in the hotel, I don't think you'd have a lack of people wanting to just hang out, Bear. I know that you won't find me at the slots or tables. However, I might be tempted to hit a show or walk the strip.

Personally, I think Sin City would be a very appropriate place for a Litogether. And if you look at airfare and such, there are always specials for Vegas from almost anywhere in the country.

Pick a hotel just slightly off the strip? Maybe down on Fremont St. to aid in affordability.

I think the idea should be explored. Certainly, while I like Seattle and Portland, Vegas has advantages I can't ignore.

We recently stayed at a resort about 15 miles outside of town at Lake Las Vegas. Very affordable rooms. Lots of on-property restaurants & bars. Easy forays for those who want to explore the Strip. Transfer from airport to the resort was the only drawback.

Lake Las Vegas you could get a nibble on. Heck, I might even bring along a pack rod for those mornings when I have to sneak down the hall to avoid wakening the celebrants. And I'll bet getting the Hot Mama bear there with a promise of . . . oh Blue Man Group and the like increases the attraction.

You wouldn't have a hard time selling me on that; I travel down to Orange County frequently. It could work for me. And January in Irvine is a decent time for weather. And we could get decent rates on hotels, too.

But I happen to like Vegas a lot and there are great deals on hotels and flights, not to mention the possibility that we all go into town at some point and hit the buffet at the Bellagio--was seeing a cable show called "All You Can Eat Paradise" last night and the Bellagio's buffet was something featured in this show. The idea of all the Alaskan King Crab legs, sushi, Beef Wellington (their signature dish), oysters, and a zillion other things we could eat has a charm to it that's hard to beat. :)

Vegas is a superior idea, Imp. Brava!

It's been years since I had a naked coffee morning with people, though I used to have them a lot when I was in clothing optional circumstances. And yes, it was wonderful: coffee in the morning and naked people. Good stuff all the way around.

Vegas sounds like it could be a lot of fun ... and nobody would get a second look walking around the hotel in costume

ETA -- If it would help in your plans to, bring Hot Moma, you do realize there is a Blue Man Group in Chicago too

I'd have to slim down considerably to be interested in naked coffee mornings. Besides, slob that I am, the last thing my morning needs is spilled hot coffee.

There is no way I could say no to Vegas...

If you want in the city, The Golden Nugget has nice enough rooms and was cheep enough when I stayed there the other year. The rooms are also far enough away from Freemont Street that the late-night noise doesn't affect what little sleep you will be getting :D

Mmm... Vegas...

Right? There aren't many places a girl can stroll in full bellydancer battle rattle and nobody bats an eye :D
