OK for those of you who have read before about my family situation and offered such kind words, thanks again. (If you don't know the long sad story, I won't bore you with the details, just suffice it to say I have taking care of my mom who has cancer and working on finding a foster home for my nephew, who is autistic.)
Mom is doing well and should be through with chemo in November. Her doctor says there is no new evidence of disease. She was scheduled to have a corneal transplant in May before she was diagnosed with the cancer in april. Looks like she will be strong and healthy enought to be able to have that as early as January.
I met with a wonderful couple today who are very interested in taking in Skylar (the boy). They have one other adopted child who is 19 and just out of the house. They had been going through the process of becoming foster parents, ideally with a special needs child in mind, but had kind of given up for some personal reasons, weren't sure they wanted to continue, and decided to give it some time and "pray on it for a while, see what God tells them" (they are Baptists). That was last week. Two days later, their pastor gave them a copy of the letter I had sent out to local churches, and they were going to give me a call, get more info on the situation. Well, Sunday morning I was in the supermarket with Skylar and he is moseying along, not looking where he's going, and runs smack into some guy. I said "Skylar, please be more careful." The womans head whips around and she says "Is this Skylar? Are you Kellie?" and so I say yes and she tells me how she'd been planning to call me, etc. I got together with them today at their house, they live right in the same town so he wold not have to change schools (which would be devastating for him) and they are so loving and sweet and want a child in their lives so badly.
He is going to be spending the day with them Saturday, so everyone can get to know eachother. He doesn't know yet he might live with them, he just thinks they are new friends of mine who want to take him to the movies. But I am just so so optimistic. I am not a religious person but I do believe sometimes things work out the way they do for a reason. It all just feels right.
It's like I can breathe again, I was so worried I would have to leave to go back to England with this situation unresolved, and now there's a huge light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks for letting me share.
