I am known on my floor as the one who seems to be able to fix damned near anything. It got to the point though wher people expected me to fix their broken toys just because they wanted them fixed. I stopped accepting these little jobs.
A couple of weeks ago on of the R.N.'s came in with a sob story. Her Laptop, a tweaked HP had stopped working. It just wouldn't run. This was an R.N. who has never asked me for help and when she explained that she had some truly important information on her computer, (That she hadn't backed up,) I relented.
I brought it home and started looking at it. It took me almost an hour to find the problem. The connection between the Transformer and the computer itself was bad. The blads that made contact inside the female connector had spread so far that they didn't make contact with the male connector. (Bending these back is not an option, they are brittle.)
It took me a bit of work, and a lot of playing but I built up the internal connectors, as well as the male connector. (A bit of Computer Viagra?) I got it to work.
Two nights ago I E-Mailed her to inform her of this. Today I brought the computer in and gave it to her.
Instead of the thanks I was expecting, (Which is none,) she turned around and gave me a brand new Acer Aspire Laptop. (The same as the one I have.) (We're talking this thing was still in the box.) She informed me that because I had not only fixed her computer, but saved her files I deserved this.
To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.
