Two mature women friends, go to the one's beach house on the Delaware seashore. The one is a nurse at a hospital, and the older one is a retired high school teacher. Their husbands are either busy or not interested in going along.

On a Friday evening, they visit a famous hangout, named Crabby Dick's. After a few drinks, they hook up with a much younger man at the bar. The three of them head back to the beach house for an interesting evening.

Crabby Dicks doesn't seem like a pick up place. Starboard for sure. Or Mango's. Fin's might be stretching it. But Crabby Dicks isn't a pick up place IMO.

You are correct. Reality can be a bitch. When the actual nurse character told me the name, I had to laugh. If I write it, I will investigate the establishments you've mentioned. Thx

Not to argue the point about good or bad places, pretty much any place that has alcohol and a crowd can be good for hunting.

The name, without a doubt, is a good name.

You can get "Crabby Balls" as an app.

however, if you were trying to be slightly realistic, which if you were using Crabby Dicks as the place, leads me to believe you were, this would not be the place for a pick up.

You'd have a better chance at the beach, single woman or man, sitting alone, someone approaches them..... that has happened... to me... in Bethany.

Crabby Dicks...... a great beach restaurant name.

Maybe I was unclear on my previous post. Crabby Dick's was the ACTUAL location that this liaison began. I'll talk to the r.l. character, and see if she'd reconsider when it's being written.

But you've unintentionally given me another idea for a story as if I don't already have too many ideas. What are some of the unlikeliest places that pickups began? For instance, a couple of weeks ago, I was walking from the parking lot into Walmart to pick up meds at the pharmacy. A tall, attractive, mature woman was coming out walking straight towards me. She was smiling very broadly right at me and drilling a hole through me with her eyes. It was a little unnerving, but I found myself smiling back with almost the same intensity as she passed. Under different circumstances, I might have stopped and said hello, and asked if she'd like to join me for a cup of coffee.

I'm guessing she was 10-15 years younger than me. I know this sounds like total b.s. but I've encountered this more than a few times in my lifetime. I chalk it up to two things, well maybe three. One, I am a natural smiler; two: I'm quite tall at 6'4", and so was she; and three: I come across as athletic. But, the first two are usually sufficient. Then again, maybe she recognized me and I was drawing a blank. Of course, she may have had a chainsaw in her car and really wanted to invite me somewhere private?

The Walmart across from Crabby Dicks? I know the area well....

That whole area is ripe for pick ups. My personal favorite is Crust and Craft. Women and singles there.

Anywhere on the beach. I was talking to a woman in Bethany this afternoon. Single, 18 years younger than I. We went to Bethany Blues. However, it went no further. Interest wasn't there.

IMHO if a specific locale or venue is crucial to the story, i.e. if the place is almost a character, then make it as real as possible. If it could happen in any town, then it can be anonymized. The lounge at a chain hotel serving business travelers should be a likely spot to pick up strangers -- patrons lounging after supper hours are there for sex, right? It's an easy harvest.

IMHO the question becomes, if the establishment is crucial, then why? Are ambience or staff or patrons unique and noteworthy? Are a pub's resident barflies special, like maybe it's a rockstar hangout? (In one story I briefly mentioned such an IRL place in Malibu, based on an ex-manager's memories.)

IMHO if you will set a scene at Crabby Dick's, be sure to get the details right

I think you made a strong case for anonymizing the location since it's not really crucial. The name just jumped out at me, when I heard it. Years ago, in our hometown, the lounge at the Sheraton Inn motor lodge & ball room was supposedly a good pick-up spot, but that name has no bazinga to it.
