I am not an author simply because I am not a story-teller. I love reading stories, especially those of an erotic nature. This is why I joined Literotica. To you authors: The story is everything and the sex should never overwhelm the story. Remember, an explicit detailed description of sex is not, by itself, a story.

I would have to disagree, the story to me, is second to the sex scenes

I am not reading erotica cause I am looking for a good story

Sex is secondary. Far more ways to describe a sunset than intercourse.

There is an authors hangout were story and writing discussions are predominant.

If I'm reading a story on lit, I'm reading it for the sex. I want to be overwhelmed with sexy times.

I totally disagree.

There are various levels of writing. On the fiction side there is;

fiction/sci fi/fantasy
erotica
porn

If you just want to read, any of the 3 is fine. If you're shy over racy sex scenes, then the first category is for you and you'll still run into books that are too strong for your tastes. If you want a bit more than racy but are looking for something other than only sex, the second category is where you need to look If you want sex over storyline or something to help you through a masturbation session, then you want porn.

A lot of what is written here is porn not erotica. Good erotica has a plot & storyline that transcends the sex scenes but the punch in those scenes isn't softened. It is the story that the reader wants, not the sexy bits; though those things sometimes elevate the story above ordinary.

Here is a review that illustrates this:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1978919502?book_show_action=true&from_review_page=1

This reviewer says she read the book even though she isn't in to the lifestyle portrayed in the story because it was the story that she was interested in, not the sex or alt lifestyle. Yet the book is solidly on the erotica level. Hard hitting sex scenes and lots of sex nuances as part of the plot, but it is the plot that carries the reader along.

Well mansplained, Tim.

Another opportunity for the "Why can't we have both?" gif.

Your preferences don't match everyone's.

I am a reader, not an author and a half poet. The explicit detailed description of sex by itself can be a story, a sex story. The story of that specific sex act.

You can't tell authors how to write their story to suit your reading preferences, but you can find erotic stories that suit your reading pleasures.

I also like erotica with a story-line, a plot, a conflict, a climax, character development and sex. It's probably why I don't like most porn, because I am looking for pornography with a story, and it is just rare.
