In ancient times a powerful and knowledgeable witch sought even greater powers, and in her quest created a drug designed to place all men and women under her control. From the village she found and seduced a young male, strong of mind and body, but willing to bed her and take his pleasures.

After the sex the witch offered the young male a drought of wine, the drug mixed into the drink, her eyes glowing in anticipation of the powers she hoped to attain as he drank.

But something went wrong, the wine itself was a heady thing, and as the drug mixed into it another factor was added to the complex chemical, changing the effects of it, and the results.

The young man found to his delight he could read the witches mind, and also control it, her deception and motives plain to see, and he punished her ruthlessly by using her body until it failed.

The young lad moved from there to his village, using his new found powers for his own gain, establishing himself as their leader and patron, dominating their mind and will with his own enhanced one.

In time his horizons expanded, as did his powers, and in his lifetime he realized his dream of being an all powerful KING.

But like all dreams it was flawed, and as his body aged he realized that flaw, the killing of the witch without first attaining her magic potion or the means to recreate it. In his final years he ordered his own wise men to retrieve all that remained in her home, to devote their every waking hour to recreating it, in hopes of passing his powers to his oldest and strongest child.

The secret alluded them, the detail of the wine the potion was mixed in deemed as insignificant, and as the King died so did his rule and family, to fade into history and become a tale of lore and fantasies.

Present day finds a young historian on his first quest, his enthusiasm carrying him over the disappointment of the location of the assignment, his eyes and mind carefully recording every detail of the dusty and fragile parchments he found in a hidden room far below the burned out remains of an ancient castle in northern France.

He returned to the American University with high hopes of praise, and though they never came set about diligently to the task of cataloging each find before storing it away for posterity.

It was then he found the formula, and from the ancient Kings own notes the story of how the "boy" became such a powerful Man, the clue to why the drug had never worked again obvious to his own eyes and mind.

All he needed now was a chemist, and a bottle of wine a thousand years old, and with the enthusiasm of youth he set about to find both.

Anja sighed softly as she pulled her hair back into a low ponytail, to fall in a fiery tail of red-gold between her shoulder blades. Why did she have to get all the crap jobs? She knew why actually, she was the newest girl in the lab and they were making her prove herself, but a job based on some ancient text? Weren't there better things to do then try to break down some eons old cookie recipe?

Still grumbling to herself she pulled on a pair of battered jeans, old and worn but perfectly molded to her long, lean legs and firm ass. A similarly care worn tank-top followed before she pulled on sneakers as well and headed out her door.

They'd even had the nerve to call her in on a Saturday for this crap. On her way to the lab she continued to fume. The folks in charge at the lab obviously couldn't figure out a way to tell this archaeologist no and now she was getting dumped on, expected to give up her weekend for some dreamers bullshit. She didn't mind doing the grunt-work on a project that was worthwhile but on something like this...

Her anger just grew and it made her eyes flash with jade fire as she stormed into the lab and changed into lab scrubs in the locker room. Still grumbling to herself she finally walked into the lab to glare at her boss and the archaeologist who was the cause of her fouled weekend plans.

"Well, tell me what I'm looking for here," she said sharply, her foot tapping with impatience.

"Now, now Anja, we should feel fortunate the University has placed it's trust in us once again."

Matt listened to the Director gently chide the lab technician, his own eyes enjoying how the womans body was poured into her clothes despite her fiery words, his mind distracted from the matter at hand temporarily until he heard his name.

"This Matthew McAllister, he's made an important find and requested we work with him on this, and I agree. In fact I want you to stay on this until Matthew decides he's satisfied, is that understood?"

The smaller, thin haired man adjusted his glasses and then turned away, leaving the two alone in the lab, and forcing Matt to turn his attention from her body to the reason he had came in the first place.

"Yes, well, I can see you're not real pleased and can guess you're the rookie as I am, so maybe we can make the best of this and get this over quickly?"

He suggested and reached inside his pocket to pull a copy of the ancient parchment out and offer it to her.

"This formula is over a thousand years old, taken from the ruins of an 11th century castle, a period of time and location made unique by it's lack of disease and how it flourished despite the warring neighbors and cruel elements. I can translate the ingredients used, but have no clue what the modern day elements are, or the order to mix them in might be, I want to get this over with as badly as you do, but not perish while I do it, so I asked for help, that being you?"

He explained and admired how she was only a few inches short of his own six foot, and judged her to be close to the same 27 years of age that he was.

"Your director told me the only time he had free was this weekend, so I took it, not knowing that he'd pull you on your days off."

Pulling his sunglasses off he smiled a white toothy smile and studied her with his green eyes, then ran his hand over his short black hair as he looked over the lab.

"I'm hoping for the best, but have to warn you, I think the formula was created by an ancient Alchemist, but during her time they went by "eye of a newt" and "tooth of a bat", so unless you keep those in some dark, unused cabinet this will quite a test of your skills."

"Now, now Anja, we should feel fortunate the University has placed it's trust in us once again."

She didn't stop glaring as she was chided. The Director knew her skills and intelligence, he wasn't going to fire her for being pissed off at being called in on her weekend off. When he drew her attention to Matt however she turned her glare from her boss to the archaeologist. The man was handsome and appeared about her age, she'd have guessed him to be between her own 26 and 30 years of age, with eyes as green as her own.

Waiting until her boss left she continued to glare and simply snatched the text that Matt held out to her. Reading over it while he talked she tuned him out and started mumbling to herself, reading out loud. Automatically she started breaking down the formula in her head. Some of the basics were simple enough but the whole of it seemed odd and she really couldn't see any connection between the items listed in the formula and the way they should react to each other based on what she knew.

"I'm hoping for the best, but have to warn you, I think the formula was created by an ancient Alchemist, but during her time they went by "eye of a newt" and "tooth of a bat", so unless you keep those in some dark, unused cabinet this will quite a test."

"Alchemist?" she finally asked looking up from the text with a snort of derision. "You mean some crazy old coot trying to turn lead into gold?"

Rolling her eyes she tossed the paper back at Matt and turned away from him. Flipping open on of the laptops conveniently placed around the lab she was once more grumbling to herself as she leaned against the counter. Her fingers punched in the keys as she typed in what she'd read on the scroll without ever looking up at Matt.

She'd known this was all a waste of her time and his using the word, 'Alchemist' had only confirmed it.

"The woman was a healer and studied not only metals, but chemical composition, it was also evident she could read and write, something close to a miracle in the 11th century."

Matt replied and wondered if the woman even heard him, being so absorbed in the breaking down of the formula before her.

"Picture it in your mind, the life of a woman in that time, how difficult it was to survive on her own and yet she did, and managed to educate herself so she could pursue the study of the unknown?"

He shrugged, being thoroughly ignored, her ability to read the cryptic Latin / English negating his own value to the process and leaving him idle.

"I'll find a chair out of your way then"

He mumbled quietly and did just that, finding a vantage point where he could admire her firm backside as well as what filled her shirt to the point of bursting.
He was glad for the silence, he reflected, for her studies of the formula kept her mind and questions off the rest of the facts as to where it came from.

Still there were worse ways to spend a Saturday, he admitted to himself, then to sit and enjoy the sight of a beautiful woman, even if she ignored him.

"I'll find a chair out of your way then"

Anja heard him and waved a dismissive hand at him. She didn't really care what he did so long as he stayed out of her way and was quiet. Quickly she started typing up the list of items she'd read and, not for the first time in her life, was grateful to have a photographic memory. It allowed her to skip the step of having to deal with the man sitting quietly in some corner.

She could feel him watching her and it made her want to turn around and confront him about it but that would have meant having to actually talk to him so she dealt with the ogling in silence. Eventually she was able to get deep enough into her work to forget his presence altogether.

Lost in her work she was silent for hours with the exception of the occasional mumbled word. She still considered it a waste of time but at least it was an interesting waste of her time. Though she couldn't really believe what the computer was starting to tell her.

At last however her stomach growled, loudly, and she had to chuckle at herself. The computer still needed to work so she left the analysis program running and stood to stretch, her arms high above her head and her back arched slightly while a small mewling noise filled her throat. Settling back to her feet she turned and suddenly remembered that she wasn't alone.

Glancing dismissively at the man still sitting in the corner of the lab she spun on her heel and grabbed her lab coat, "I'm going for lunch. I'll be back in an hour," she said simply before heading for the door. He could stay or leave, she didn't really care which.

It would be the only invitation he received, Matt knew, as well as the only chance he had to eat as well. He wasn't going to leave the formula in the hands of anyone save himself, and by the womans expression he knew it was beginning to fall together.

He rose and followed, enjoying how her ass swayed inside the tight cloth, to follow her out the door and across the street to a plain looking but clean diner, then take a seat across from her.

"Chicken dinner, coffee black and a slice of pie, your choice"

He winked as it became her turn and he ordered and she returned the flirt, then poured him a cup.

"I take it that it's going well?"

Matt probed gently and sipped his coffee, his eyes on her face and ignoring the fullness of her breasts and how they moved.

His query was selfish and he knew it, but then she wasn't interested in anything but the time he was "wasting" for her and had made it painfully obvious. He would return the sentiment and after leaving her with his formula make sure the Director kept his word and erase all traces of the days work, insuring the first half of the formula was truly his, and his alone.

"How much longer before I can be out of your hair?"

Anja blinked in surprise when he followed her out of the lab. She hadn't cared if he left or stayed but she hadn't thought he'd follow her either. When he continued to follow her out into the diner she almost snapped at him but decided to leave it alone and settled for rolling her eyes as he flirted with the waitress.

Putting in her own order for one of the diners famous (locally anyway) burgers, a large plate of chili-cheese fries and a slice of peanut butter pie she simply settled in and waited for her iced tea to arrive. Lunch wasn't going to be particularly pleasant but she figured she'd muddle through.

"I take it that it's going well?"..."How much longer before I can be out of your hair?"

"It's going fine. The computer's running an initial analysis now."

Her voice was short and clipped as she noticed his eyes glancing down toward her breasts and without thinking she reached out across the table to tap his cheek lightly with her fingertips forcing him to look up at her.

"Those don't talk," she said curtly, "And you can be out of my hair now if you like. The Director will have my results at the end of tomorrow."

Matt caught the hand that tilted his head and held it gently, turning it to trace small circles with his fingers as he smiled into her eyes.

"Not to you perhaps, but to a man who has been trapped in the catacombs for a year with only his own voice?"

He released the hand at the first tug and continued to smile, his eyes focused on her own and moving no further.

"As far as the results, I'll stay with you until it's finished and you hand me the one and only tape, the Director has promised me absolute confidentiality and the fewer people involved the better. You see it's a year of my life you have in that lab, and if the formula turns out to be what I hope for, my future."

He dropped his eyes and finding his coffee sipped at it, enjoying the thick, smoky flavor and smiling as the last drop rolled down his throat.

"As for finding you attractive, I do, and I won't apologize for looking. In a few hours I'll be gone and you can remember me at the rude, crude archealogist that stole a day of your life, allright?"

Anja hissed sharply and pulled her hand back away from him. How dare he! God this twit had balls even though it seemed his brain had taken a vacation. First he flirts with the waitress then he had the gall to try and hit on her?! What the hell was wrong with him?

"As for finding you attractive, I do, and I won't apologize for looking. In a few hours I'll be gone and you can remember me at the rude, crude archealogist that stole a day of your life, allright?"

She rolled her eyes at that and simply tossed him a disgusted look. The man was clearly delusional. She had a year of his life as well as his future in her lab? What kind of moron did he take her for? What she had in her lab was some silly little alchemist's formula for god only knows what. The odds of it being anything useful were slim to none and even if it was something useful then the odds were likely that someone else had already found a means of creating the same effect with science or medicine.

"So far the only thing I've heard you say right is that you'll be remembered as a rude little man who wasted a day of my life. But then I don't intend to remember you long, forgetting you is the preferable option," she growled and stopped only because the waitress appeared with their food.

Matt gave Anja an amused looked and turned his smile on as the waitress lowered the plates to the table, flirting with her as she verified the order was correct and to their likings.

"What's on the menu for dessert hun, anything "special" you might recommend to a man who hasn't a decent meal in a year?"

The waitresses coy reply amused him,and the seething look he received from the chemist nearly made him burst out laughing as he accepted the phone number scribbled on a napkin.

"Guess at least I won't be lonely tonight, huh Sonya?"

Matt smirked and deliberately used the wrong name, tucking the number away in his pocket.

The meal was spent in relative quiet after that, the only words spoken when one or the other asked for the salt or catsup, until it was mercifully over and Matt paid the tab.

"For you darling, keep it warm until tonight, OK?"

Matt tucked a bill between the well displayed breasts of the waitress as they walked out, using his toe to stop the door from hitting him in the face as Anja swung it at him and grinning as he follower her back to her lab.

"So how much longer sweets?"

"Guess at least I won't be lonely tonight, huh Sonya?"

Anya didn't dignify that with an answer though she wanted to growl and snap at him for deliberately screwing up her name. Instead she simply ignored him and settled for eating her food; food she usually enjoyed but which tasted like cardboard to her today. She suspected that was due to the man across from her.

When the check came she rolled her eyes as he once more flirted outrageously with the waitress. It was a disgusting display with no subtlety whatsoever on either side. She let him pay for the meal, figuring it was the least he owed her for ruining her day and her lunch before spinning on her heel and trying to slam the door in his face as she left the cafe.

Returning to the lab she flipped open the laptop that was still running and grumbled softly when she heard him behind her.

"So how much longer sweets?"

"If you can't be bothered to use my name, I can't be bothered to answer your questions," she muttered without looking up. "Shut up and sit back down in your corner if you want it done today."

Platy time was over, Matt knew as the womans voice and manners became all business inside the lab. He moved to a far corner and an unused computer, loading a disk to study it intently, the screen showing the known locations of the second needed element for the formula.

Hours passed, Matt mapping out the shortest route to each possible location, and adding the known phone numbers and addresses to his own phone, his eyes moving on occasion to the woman who ignored him and focused on her own work.

Until finally the process ended and Anya copied the data to a disk.

"You've got a formula, but can you make the real thing?"

Matt moved from his own corner to invade her space, his eyes critically studying the elements listed on the screen and how they linked together.

"Before we leave I'd like to have a sample of that formula, if you can, that is?"

"Before we leave I'd like to have a sample of that formula, if you can, that is?"

Anja glared up at the man who was invading her work space. She'd banished him to the corner and expected him to remain there until he left damnit! Without thinking she reached up and shoved him away from her computer screen sharply enough to make him stumble.

"Stay away from my workstation," she growled irritably. She wanted to argue that the damned formula couldn't be made that day but she wasn't about to give up yet another day in this idiot's made quest for fame and fortune; or whatever the hell he was after. "Sit your ass down and be quiet so I can concentrate."

In the back of her mind she knew she wasn't being entirely fair to Matt but she didn't really care for the most part. She found his presence grated on her nerves and watching him hit on that waitress earlier hadn't improved her mood; nor had his obvious implications that he'd flirt with her if she'd have let him.

Matt gave up on taunting the well shaped woman and let her tend to business. Business that took hours and left him wandering around the Lab. At one point he found a coffee machine and made a pot, strong and black, bringing a cup full to her and setting it within arms reach but out of her way.

She never spoke to thank him and he wasn't disappointed, never expecting it or another word from her full lips. She didn't let him down, the only sounds in the lab coming from the computer, the lights overhead, and the occasional clink of glass as she mixed chemicals.

The clock moved past four a.m. before she rose wordlessly and handed him a sealed container, her eyes tired but triumphant as she spoke for the first and final time in hours.

"Are we done now, SIR?"

Moving past her he sat at the terminal, transferring the data to a disk before wiping the hard drive clean, finding her glaring eyes on his as he finished and turned.

"You've done a good job and will be rewarded, but one warning, if you've kept a copy of the formula I'll be back."

It was his goodbye to her as he shouldered past her, then stopped and gripped her shoulder, to press his lips hard to hers and pull her to him for one long moment.

And grinning as she slapped him, the sharp, loud sound echoing off the walls and door he walked out of.

It was worth it, he decided, her lips were sweet and she felt good in his arms.

He would never be back, he added, pulling the phone number out of his pocket and moving to a phone outside. If he hurried he'd catch the waitress before she went in for work and give her a good fucking.

How wrong he was about never seeing the Lab Tech he later knew.................

"You've done a good job and will be rewarded, but one warning, if you've kept a copy of the formula I'll be back."

Anja rolled her eyes and was content enough to let him shoulder past her. She started shutting down her computer and was reaching for the glass vials and beakers that she'd used in her work when he was suddenly back and pulling her into his arms. At first she was so surprised that she didn't react but simply let him kiss her; that quickly wore off however and she pulled away, slapping him as hard as she could muster in her exhausted state.

That he was still smiling as he left told her she hadn't hit him hard enough but he was gone and that was really all she wanted. She didn't know what he'd meant about her being rewarded but she had recognized the, not so subtle, threat and could only smirk as she re-opened the computer and tapped a few keys to bring back up all the work she'd done that night.

He'd wiped the actual computer's memory but she'd suspected from his attitude that he might try it and had backed up her work on the servers that ran in the basement not on the computer's hard drive. Quickly she encrypted it and buried the file where no one would think to look for it before wiping the computer clean once more and heading out of the lab.

She wanted sleep but she found that, once she got home, she was just too wound up to remain cooped up in her apartment so she changed into a pair of skin tight black slacks that tucked into knee high black-suede boots and pulled on a green silk halter top to complete the outfit. The hair she let tumble around her her back and shoulders before she grabbed her purse and cell-phone and headed out the door to meet some friends at a nearby club.

All thoughts of Matt himself had already left her mind except for the one thought that she would be happy to never see him again.

Matt was out the door and on his phone making contact with the closest owner of the ancient wine he needed to finish the formula, and with the price agreed he was soon on a plane and a two hour flight to a remote cabin in the wooded Canadian lakeside.

On the trip he had time to contemplate the attitude and actions of the lab technician and her decidedly hostile attitude towards him through out the long day...

It wasn't her refusing his attention that bothered him, or the slap that signaled their farewell kiss was over, he decided, rather it was the look in her eyes as he walked out the door.

A look of disdain and superiority, mixed with a smirking set of lips that hinted at she had pulled the wool over his eyes.

A look that bothered him long enough it took the elation out of obtaining the bottle of wine so easily, and as he waited for the flight out of the woodlands forced him to decide the only thing the woman could have hidden from him was another copy of the formula.

"Get me the Director of the Chemistry will you?"

He gave into his brooding suspicions and made the call, then quickly told the man of his beliefs.

"I cleaned the hard drive but if she had another way of transferring the formula? I don't have to warn YOU of how much this could cost your department, do I?"

With the reassurance it would be checked into and an answer delivered to him as quickly as possible Matt delayed taking the flight and instead checked into an ancient yet clean hotel to study the two bottles.

"One ancient, one modern day, mixed in equal portions according to the translation, it's effects taking a nights sleep before it was recognized."

With a trio of hotel glasses he mixed the two as equally as he could, then drank the potion before he had second thoughts, the flavor and aftertaste a pleasant surprise that quickly relaxed him and helped him sleep the entire night through.

A sleep that lasted until late into the next morning to end when the phone by his bed stand rang repeatedly until he answered.

"Yes, I understand. It doesn't prove anything but it is highly suspicious, the fact the encrypted data was transfered at exactly the same time she had finished the formula. I'll be seeing you soon."

Sooner than he had planned, Matt thought to himself and multi-tasked, packing his clothes and booking a flight at the same time.

With luck he'd be back to the Lab and the annoying woman before it opened Monday...

Her saturday daytime plans might have been shot with that annoying archeologist's formula but she thoroughly enjoyed her Saturday night out with her friends and on Sunday they drove out to the nearest lake and just hung out all day on the beach. Sunday night she relaxed at home and was looking forward to Monday morning when she could get back to her real work.

By the time she went to bed on Sunday she'd nearly forgotten the encrypted data she'd hidden in the labs servers. She'd really only saved it because she knew it would annoy the man who had caused her such trouble that day and the old adage, "Out of sight, out of mind," was fully in effect.

Anja slept well that night and when her alarm went off Monday morning she rolled out of bed and dressed for work - well in jean and a t-shirt, she'd be changing into scrubs at the lab so there was no need to dress up - pulled her hair back into a ponytail and was out the door early. Being the low man on the totem pole she made it her job to know what was going to be happening at the beginning of each day and showed up an hour early to get supplies ready for each of the experiments or studies that would be running.

Today was no different, she just didn't expect there to be anyone there to meet when she showed up early to the lab...

Matt felt no different when he woke, questioning himself if he had misjudged something in the process, or had simply been wrong about the entire thing.

A maid arrived at his request, bearing more towels and a body worth looking at a second time, bringing the thought to his mind what she might look like undressed and giving him a genuine surprise when she dropped the towels to the beds surface and began to undress.

In less than a minute she stood before him, her neatly trimmed bush and perky breasts there for his pleasure to examine, her eyes showing shock and confusion at what she had just done.

"You can leave now?"

Matt spoke in his own confused tone,a smile coming to his lips as the woman blushed, and with a quiet squeal scooped her clothes up to disappear out the door.

Showering Matt decided her actions were caused by his own thoughts, and that he needed to control and focus them from now on, or he could easily create a situation that could backfire on him.

Dressed and at his breakfast table he tried again, willing the busty waitress to undo several buttons of her blouse and keeping a unconcerned look on his face as she did, then leaving a suggestion that if and when she found the undone buttons to believe it was an accident instead of a deliberate act.

As he paid his check he found he could look into the mind of the pretty cashier, and smiled at her recent memory of being roughly taken by her boyfriend the night before, his eyes going to the marks around each of her wrists as she ran the till.

"You need to rub salve on those rope burns, or it will scar."

He winked and grinned at her, enjoying her blushing face as his phone rang on his belt and he left the cafe.

"Hello? Yes, so there was data transferred from her terminal and at that time. I see. Yes, I''m going to get on the next flight"

With an evil grin he had left the cafe and the confused ladies, his mind going to the Lab technician and her distasteful attitude towards him, ideas going through his head on just how he was going to teach her several lessons on manners.

The idea stayed in his mind on the flight back and as he controlled the mind of the security guard to let him into her Lab, then instructed him to forget he had ever been there, his glee increasing as he anticipated Anja's surprise and what he was going to do with her.

"Hello Anja, I've come back, you see. It bothered me how we got off on the wrong track, so to speak, and I was hoping we could try again?"

He greeted her with the ruse he had decided would be the most fun, his mind slipping into her thoughts to find genuine surprise and suspicion, as well as dislike.

"I've talked to the Director, just last night, in fact. And I've convinced him after your excellent work Saturday, despite my crude antics, that you're a valuable employee and need to be treated as one. The University has long needed a person like you, to act as the Head of her own Department and helping us determine if the artifacts and discoveries we find are actually that, or a waste of time."

He had kept his face smooth and pleasant as he spoke, the words intended to stroke her ego as his mind gently suggested she look at him in a new and gentler light.

"I was thinking that IF you were interested, we might spend the day together discussing my ideas, and how you will fit so perfectly into them?"

Sitting quietly Matt smiled a pleasant smile, his own mind gently turning Anja's objections away and filling her mind with trust and the desire to be more than just the low Lab tech. He was going to punish her, not once but repeatedly, taking his time with her and making her ultimate humiliation something she'd never forget.

Hello Anja...

Startled she turned quickly and all but growled on seeing the archaeologist who'd ruined her Saturday off. Her initial reaction was to want to reach out and smack him for startling her but as he continued to speak she could feel her anger waning and her expression softening. She didn't like the new attitude she felt forming and tried to shrug it off, wanting to cling to her anger, annoyance, and general dislike of this man.

"I was thinking that IF you were interested, we might spend the day together discussing my ideas, and how you will fit so perfectly into them?"

His ideas? She didn't give a fig for his ideas and couldn't figure out what he was doing there in the first place. Surely he didn't really think the Director or the University were going to give her her own department. As much as she wanted to move up the ladder she also knew she didn't have the experience for it yet and the words designed to stroke her ego only served to further annoy the part of her that was so willing to be annoyed with him.

"I have work to do," she muttered softly, the words not coming out with nearly the force she intended and she found that while she wanted to simply sweep around him and get to work but she was simply standing still.

Grumbling at herself she finally glared at Matt asking, "What are you doing here anyway? The waitress from Saturday give you the heave already? And what's with stroking my ego? What the hell do you want?"

"I'm sure the Director will grant me all the time we need, he's anxious to land our "account" and nearly wet himself when I mentioned the proposal"

Matt brushed Anja's "working" excuse aside and smiled, feeling the resistance in her mind and knowing she was stronger than the women he had played with on the trip back.

It was going to be amusing and not easy, but Matt was looking forward to the day he had Anja on her knees and doing his bidding, he decided.

"As for the waitress? You made it clear you weren't interested and she was, so what's the problem? If you wanted you had first choice, but after the cold treatment you gave me?"

He shrugged and stopped, not going any further and knowing doing so would just make it harder for him to overcome her barriers.

"I came back because of my behavior, to apologize and offer a white flag, as well as a proposal that would benefit my department at the University AND make you the head of a new department as well. But it seems I've judged you wrong, you have the skills, but no desire, so I'll be on my way?"

Standing he had walked slowly past her, calming the anger and nervousness that emanated from her mind and body as he bluffed and moved to the door she had entered through, his own hand resting on the knob as he finished.

"I'll tell your department head of the disappointing news, I'm sure he'll manage to be fair about it when he hears you've turned away a multi-million dollar account"

"As for the waitress? You made it clear you weren't interested and she was, so what's the problem? If you wanted you had first choice, but after the cold treatment you gave me?"

Anja didn't say anything to his obvious baiting but gave an entirely unladylike snort of incredulity. As if she cared that he'd picked up some cheap waitress, she'd only been using the comment to bait him. Granted he made fairly decent eye-candy but the minute he opened his mouth the illusion was shattered and he just became another pain-in-the-ass male.

"I came back because of my behavior, to apologize and offer a white flag, as well as a proposal that would benefit my department at the University AND make you the head of a new department as well. But it seems I've judged you wrong, you have the skills, but no desire, so I'll be on my way?"..."I'll tell your department head of the disappointing news, I'm sure he'll manage to be fair about it when he hears you've turned away a multi-million dollar account"

Again her eyes rolled. She knew he was bluffing, he had to be. No one was going to give a lab-rat with as little experience as she had, her own department. It simply didn't happen. She found herself growing more annoyed as well when she realized she simply couldn't seem to hang onto her anger with him, he was so obnoxious, she should have been able to keep up a nice simmering fury with him but it kept wanting to just drift away making it difficult to be sharp with him.

"Oh get over yourself," she finally muttered. "I don't know why you feel the need to come in here stroking my ego but no one is going to give an entire department to a tech with less than a year's experience under her belt. The more likely scenario would be that they'd put someone else in as the department head and then perhaps take me on as a senior, or mid-level more likely, tech on whatever project it is your proposing.

Especially if it is as lucrative as you say."

This time she managed to turn her back on him as if she'd walk away into the lab but she silently cursed when she just couldn't seem to make her feet move any further. Why the hell couldn't she escape this man?!

"Care to make a bet?"

Matt stood and watched Anja turn away, but move slowly away, feeling a growing instinct and confidence that his abilities were increasing.

"Your director is in, call him, verify that he and I had a discussion about you and tell him you'd like the three of us to have a quick visit down here immediately"

Anja turned and he met her scornful eyes with his own new found confident ones, moving to the old fashioned black phone to lift and offer it to her.

"Now the bet, WHEN you're proven wrong you pay up by having dinner and drinks with me at the place I choose and we'll have that discussion of how you fit into my plans, but if I'm bluffing you can have the pleasure of kicking me OUT of your lab and the rest of your life."

Turning the phone to give Anja access he grinned and stepped back, his eyes and next words daring her to call his bluff this time.

"Either way you win, that is, unless you're too scared to find out the truth?"

"Either way you win, that is, unless you're too scared to find out the truth?"

"I'd hardly call dinner with you winning," she snapped sharply as she snatched the phone from his hand. It was time to end this game, she had work to do and he was once more getting on her nerves. She might not be able to stay angry but he was managing to keep her annoyed just fine.

She didn't even need to look to dial the directors number, just dialed it in and stood there incredulous as the man congratulated her on the amazing opportunity that had come her way. He called her bright and any other number of complimentary things but declined to come down and talk to both she and Matt, he was apparently already going through some of the resumes that he still had on file to fill her current position since she'd, naturally, be vacating it.

When he finally finished talking she simply dropped the phone back into the cradle and stared at Matt with an expression of near horror. She didn't know what exactly was going on but she didn't trust him and knew he must be up to something. The most obvious thing she could think of was that he was playing some horrid joke on her to pay her back for her rude behavior over the weekend.

"I still think this is all some huge set-up but since he agreed with you, where did you plan on dinner?" she asked, her voice tight and not at all pleased with the notion but willing to fulfill the parameters of the wager he'd set. At least she'd get a dinner out of it.

At least Matt had the sense of a small Victory as he watched the expression on Anja's face and smiled in return.

"I'll have a car pick you up"

He smirked as she sought details for the dinner and admitted her minor defeat, and then added.

"You've been given the afternoon off, to allow you time to get ready for our dinner, I've had a dress sent to your home address and expect to see you in it when the car brings to me"

He left then, not giving the pretty technician time to object, the door closing as her muted voiced bounced off of and he laughed.

His next meeting was with the Director, to reinforce the importance of Anja not only making the "dinner" but also NOT being expected back the rest of the week in the Lab, the standard excuse to be given she was "away" planning the new Department.

Matt had plans for Anja, hinging around the romantic dinner that she would meeting him at, the location at a far away retreat usually used by the rich or famous when they wanted a lve tryst to be out of the public eye.

He spent the rest of the day getting things ready for her, using his new found powers to exert his control over the small staff at the retreat, his mind imagining how Anja was going to look in the low cut and revealing dress, and how she would look out of it as well.

It was going to be an interesting evening, and if Matt had his way, he was going to have a new toy to play with before the evening was over.
