It was a sad event Vane Merrivian had returned home for. The death of his foster parents had been a big blow for the twenty four year old young man. Anna and Phil Merrivian had been the only parents he had known. He knew he was adopted but he had always felt loved by the Merrivians. They had been desperately trying for Anna to be with child for a long time. With no success. After some time they decided to adopt and Vane was the young child they got in the bargain.
Even as Anna got pregnant two years after Vane's arrival in the family they still treated him as a loved son. The birth of Therese Merrivian or Terry as she preffered to be called was an joyous occation. Especially as Anna found out she couldn't get more children she was pleased. She had two children she could love.
Now both Anna and Phil was dead from a hit and run accident and Vane was home again after two years on the road. He had been home occasionally but he had always left rather quickly. He was pretty mended from a love affair gone sour now but two years ago he was a wreck and couldn't stand being in the town he had called home. Melissa Myers had totally destroyed him at a time when he was very vulnerable and in love. Now she was married and he never thought he would be thinking of moving back home.
That was before the accident. Now he wouldn't leave Terry alone. She was all he had left and he would do what he could to make her a better life. Just as he always had. When he beat a former boyfriend of her to a pulp because he had misstreated her. Vane would always do his best to protect her.
Vane held Terry's cold hand in his as he listened to the words of the priest. He saw that Melissa was sitting in the back of the church. She had given him plenty looks when she entered. Vane suspected that she would be easy to persuade back in his bed. Vane was not a bad looking guy. Six feet tall with an athletic body and dark brown hair and blue eyes. He knew he could have Melissa but he would stay as far away from her as possible. She destroyed him once and he would not let her do it twice. Not now when he had to be there for Terry.
