It's swim season again, and I can't find what I want for a new swimsuit. I can't even find a decent picture of what I want. The closest I've come so far is here: http://www.coololdstuff.com/bathing/swimmers1.html (the man looking away from the camera is wearing close to waht I want, except it's a two piece.

What I want is a modern fabric replica of an old fashioned man's one piece swimsuit. The kind that reached to about mid thigh and had close fitting short sleeves -- sort of like a t-shirt and biking shorts combined, but looser fitting.


So, all you photo finding wizards and online shopping mavens -- HELP!

I'm looking for something that looks old-fashioned but without the weight penalty of "nine pounds of water" (claimed for an early Jantzen man's swimming costume made of wool on Jantzen's website.)

Between all the young kids with too much energy and too little sense and the way cold water can make my bones and joints ache I want something that looks as old as I sometimes feel.

I've never seen one. Maybe antique dealers could help find an original for you. I don't know that you'll be able to get one out of modern material. Unless you hire someone to sew it for you.(Starfish?)

Actually, I have to disagree. We were required to wear speedo's when playing water polo........and ummmmmm with a confident gaze, letting you know, that some do look just fine.......cold water or not.

Nope, I'm not quite weird enough to want an original. The originals were made of wool knit and weighed nine-plus pounds when wet -- not to mention the bagging, stretching and drooping involved in wearing wet wool.

Can youimagine wearing wool knit in the direct sun when it's 115F in the shade? I may be weird, but I'm NOT a maschist.
