The story opens from what I can remember with the wife walking in to the house and as soon as the husband see's her he calls the detective that was assigned to the case. The story then time skips to earlier to explain how they met and what happened immediately following her disappearance.
When the wife disappeared almost all of the police/public's suspicion is placed on the husband and though I don't think hes charged with anything the public perceives him as guilty/involved.
After some time he meets a much younger woman through some type of advertisement that I think the girl posted because she needed money for school or something like that but I'm not certain. The relationship doesn't start out sexual at first it's just for companionship I believe.
Later on I remember they have some trouble in their relationship due to her realizing he is the person from the news that everyone believes is responsible for his wife's disappearance.
At the end of the story after the wife returns I believe the husband convinces the wife to come clean to the media for financial reasons.
