A society where men and women completely separate and explore the sexual dynamics

Like the Rick & Morty episode expect with new characters. Once humans figured out how to artificially create life the sexes got tired of each other and separated. What do you think would happens?

Unless those are aggressively and intentionally excluded, removed or "repaired" in some way (all-artificial reproduction would simplify that greatly, but may not fully prevent anyway) a small number of individuals who cannot be easily pigeonholed would nevertheless likely be present.

But then the setting as I understand it ("Rick & Morty episode" says exactly nothing to me) it would feature very tightly controlled society anyway, so imposing binary sex identity wouldn't be neither especially hard nor first of the problems.

Then, we can use the setting to declare our opinions about how deeply ingrained the instincts are, and how they would manifest in a world that goes to great lengths to suppress them, but there's good chance that if not cultivated, the heteronormative understanding of sexuality wouldn't be present at all.

And that's when and how I think it would run into issues similar to realistic all-nude-all-the-time and similar principally different worlds. For the characters within, it's just how things are, the probably desired conflict with the world as it "should be" simply doesn't exist.

Thus, the way to play with it likely lies in making it limited in scope and within some kind of contact with the world normative and familiar to us.

Then, there are such contexts: prisons. Those probably aren't nice models for what you desire.

This is already starting to happen in our society. Then they invent androids, male ones for the females and female ones for the males. But the AI is too good, and the androids have too many characteristics of real people. Thus they are back where they started.
