A small request from you.

If you download music... get two songs: #41 by the Dave Matthews Band, and #41 by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Simply beautiful music. Pretty much my theme song.

Happy Birthday LL!

My Fave Books are The Red Tent and Still Life With Woodpecker
My Favorite Movies are Casablanca and The 5th Element
My Favorite Poet is Walt Whitman.
My fave songs right now are Precious Pain by Melissa Etheridge and Hoobastank Crawling in the Dark. You should check them out.

But I think this offers a truer peice of me then any list of faves....Here is a poem I wrote...

Morning

In the sweet moments before dawn
There is silence
The moon sinking slowly
bowing out to the sun
the snow glistens in the last and first rays
yesterday…today
chaos hidden for a moment
in the mist of morning
this stillness,
absence of cacophony, is pleasing
warming, comforting.
Like the cat upon my feet.
For this moment my life is my own
And I curl deeper into my pillow
and rest for one twinkling more

Happy Birthday, LL. What a wonderful idea you have! :rose:

I keep a home-made book of quotes. Whenever I read something that touches me in some way, I jot it down. There's no connection or theme between the various quotes, except that each fully expressed an idea that meant something to me at the time. Here's a sample:

He who has a why to live can bear almost any how. - Nietzche
I hate the idea of causes, and if I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my friend, I hope I should have the guts to betray my country. Such a choice may scandalize the modern reader, and he may stretch out his patriotic hand to the telephone at once and ring the police. It would not have shocked Dante, though. Dante places Brutus and Cassius in the lowest circle of Hell because they had chose to betray their friend Julius Caeser rather than Rome. - E.M. Forster
I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thought. - John Locke

Happy birthday soon. :)

I am complex but genuinely caring
Sometimes open and often sharing
Yet I am quiet and always observing

My poetry is open even when I am not
In my stomach may be a twisted knot
Yet I give what I have yet have not got

Take what you want, I will fill the gap
Trees bend and sway, cut and they give sap
I give you what I have, constantly; asap

I hide behind laughter and smiles
Even if I am tired and have to walk miles
I won't burden you but take piles

When I say I love you?
I meant it too
Saying it to few

I mean it a lot
Give life a good shot
You never know what you've got

Till it is too late... :rose:

The 17th sugar plum...

I love the book..."Lust for Life"by Irving Stone. I also enjoyed the "All Ceature, Great and Small" series by James Herriot.

Van Gogh is one of my favorite artist.

I like a variety of music...and you know that Van Morrison is one my favorites (especially like "Tupelo Honey"). I also love Sarah Brightman's (though I can't always watch her) "Time To Say Goodbye " album.

"Blade Runner" is my favorite movie.

I like Shakespeare and I like poetry about love and angst.

I know you like rain so I'll share my prose about rain..

raindrop

The steady drumming
lights softly against her view
fingers of moisture
mirrors her face
the last teardrop roams
along its lost landscape
leaving a part of it’s existence
her finger traces
a tiny drop of rain
that has won the race
against her shed tear
she wonders if
she could lose herself
in a single drop of rain
where a world seems
bright and clear
and nature calls for it's consumption
to bring new life
must she be consumed
for in its circle, the raindrop
will live again someday

" I yam what I yam and that's all what I yam."

I'm basically what you see in my everyday posting -- I read almost anything and I'm a compulsive do-gooder.

Happy birthday, BTW.

Happy Birthday LL! What a great idea.

Hmmm something about me?

Well one of my favorite books is The Great Gatsby.

And I love Shakespeare. The more I revisit his work the greater it becomes. Hamlet is my favorite play of his.

One of my all time favorite movies is Real Genius. It's about a laser!

I read in waves, sometimes I read all the time, and then a dry spell when I hardly read at all. But I always love diving back into a good book.

I hope you have an amazing brithday!

:D

In my time 'tis Luscious Lioness's birthday.

Happy Birthday, Luscious Lioness!!!

I Was Born With Webbed Fingers On My Left Hand:D The Doctors Cut And Split The Two Middle Fingers To Make A Proper Hand, Taking Skin From The Inside Of My Thigh Just Near My Pubic Mound To Graft Onto Them, Causing My Fingers To Grow A Little Bit Of Blonde Pubic Hair! LOL Then, They Could Do Nothing About The Nails Or The Knuckles, And Told Me To Come Back After I Was Grown And They Would Fix It All To Be A Perfect Hand. WHY BOTHER! I Now Have A Unique Ability....Because Of The Lack Of Knuckles In My Very Middle Finger, Whenever I Make A Fist It Does Not Go Down!

The Permanent 'Fuck You':D

May All Your Birthday Wishes Come True Today!

OO,

:rose: Happy birthday LL!'s

I can't answer those kind of questions,
since I can't name any favourites...
I'm just weird like that

book-this one is difficult, I've had so many favorites over the years, The lion, the witch and the wardrobe, Charlotte's Web, Little Women, The Red Tent, anything Shakespeare<but we'll get to him later>, but the book I "fell in love with" is Sabine's Notebook, actually that whole trilogy and the Venitian's Wife.
I'd also like to make a special mention of the book I wrote for my father, the illustrations were the pics I drew of the duckling, which you've seen

poetry- Shakespeare of course<ugh, there he is again, the bastard> but I'd have to go with two particular poems that I love
LOVE'S DISTRESSES by Goethe

WHO will hear me? Whom shall I lament to?
Who would pity me that heard my sorrows?
Ah, the lip that erst so many raptures
Used to taste, and used to give responsive,
Now is cloven, and it pains me sorely;
And it is not thus severely wounded
By my mistress having caught me fiercely,
And then gently bitten me, intending
To secure her friend more firmly to her:
No, my tender lip is crack'd thus, only
By the winds, o'er rime and frost proceeding,
Pointed, sharp, unloving, having met me.
Now the noble grape's bright juice commingled
With the bee's sweet juice, upon the fire
Of my hearth, shall ease me of my torment.
Ah, what use will all this be, if with it
Love adds not a drop of his own balsam?

and

XX or "Funeral Blues" by WH Auden.

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

music-Dream On by Aerosmith, Fire and Rain by James Taylor, Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack, but my all time favorite song is

Billy Joel
Title: Summer, Highland Falls
Album: Turnstiles

They say that these are not the best of times,
But they're the only times I've ever known,
And I believe there is a time for meditation in cathedrals of our own.
Now I have seen that sad surrender in my lover's eyes,
And I can only stand apart and sympathize.

For we are always what our situations hand us...
It's either sadness or euphoria.
And so we argue and we compromise,
and realize that nothing's ever changed,
For all our mutual experience, our seperate conclusions are the same.

Now we are forced to recognize our inhumanity,
Our reason co-exists with our insanity.
And though we choose between reality and madness...
It's either sadness or euphoria.

How thooughtlessly we dissipate our energies
Perhaps we don't fulfill each other's fantasies.
And so we'll stand upon the ledges of our lives,
With our respective similarities...
It's either sadness or euphoria.

video-Pet care for Puppies<grinning>

play-I have loved every play I've ever seen or been in, however the most amazing experience I've ever had in the theater has to be "The Lion King" it was phenomenal.

art-Rodin's The Kiss, Degas' dancer<sculpture and painting>, Van Gogh's Starry Night, anything frome the Rennaisance, I love art, all of it, it's my passion

Happy Birthday, gurl. I hope you don't have to kick any ass on your day<grin>

You know how special you are! And I think you already know a lot about me. But here's some stuff anyway - this is an excellent idea. In fact, you're one of the few who's probably taken the time already to understand me and to get your head into my world a bit. I know you've gone and read the Principia Discordia and other recommendations and I very much appreciate that.

I believe in Discordianism, Zen, slack, Isis, Magick, Music, waves and particles, love.

Cogito ergo cogito sum. (I think, therefore I think I am.)

The universe is not only queerer than we imagine, it's queerer than we can imagine.

" ! " -- Harpo Marx

OK... uh... here's the lyrics to one of the many songs I've written:

ALL THAT WE ARE

One flesh, one mind,
One race, one soul,
One light, many reflections.

The angry man,
Lives in an angry world.
The sad man,
Lives in a sad world
The Living One,
Lives in eternity.

Are you a God?
NO
Are you a saint?
NO?
Then what are you?
I AM AWAKE.

One flesh, one mind,
One race, one soul,
One light, many reflections.

All that we are,
Is all that we have thought.
It is founded on thought.
It is based on thought.
All that we are,
Is all that we have thought.

Are you a God?
NO
Are you a saint?
NO?
Then what are you?
I AM AWAKE.

One flesh, one mind,
One race, one soul,
One light, many reflections.

And one more that I wrote:

PET ON THE GO

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Kitt cat's got,
Many places to go

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Lots of things to do.
Don't you know.

If your pet is a,
Real go getter,
I'll bet she is an,
Irish Setter.

If your pet is,
Hard to please,
Then I bet,
She is Siamese.

If your pet is,
Neither dog nor cat,
Then I bet,
She is a bat...

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Puppy dog's got,
Many places to go.

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Lots of things to do,
Don't you know.

If your pet is,
In the fast lane,
Then I bet,
She is a Great Dane.

If your pet is,
Always hyper,
Then I bet,
She is a Viper.

If your pet can,
Dance a jig,
Then I bet,
She is a pig.

If your pet can,
Run the course.
Then I bet,
She is a horse.

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Kitty cat's got.
Many places to go.

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Lots of things to do.
Don't you know.

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go
Everyone needs a...
Pet on the go.

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Everyone wants a...
Pet on the go.

Pet on the go.
Pet on the go.
Everyone loves a...
Pet on the go.

PET ON THE GO!!!

~ Happy Birthday LL! ~
Do anything specail for *your day*?!

I will be sure to gather a list & share it with you soon :D

Happy Birthday LL!

Well, you probably *really* don't know me since I'm still a relative newbie on LIT, but I'll still share. :)

My Favorite book : "Howard's End" by E.M. Forester

I completely identify with the soul of the main character Margaret Schlegl.

There is a preface page to the book with a only two words:
"only connect"

I think what gives richness to our human experience is summed up in those words. Because we are essentially alone -- always. But if we are able to connect to others -- the experience of life can be shared. Connection is everything.

My favorite groups/singers/composers: Indigo Girls, Annie Lennox, Talking Heads, Dido, k.d. lang, Sting, Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck, Mozart, Aaron Copland, John Rutter

I'm half Australian on my mothers side and I was raised with an appreciation of all things anglo. I love British comedy. I like twiglets, I like a good cream tea. I like bitter lemon, a great sausage roll or a cornish pasty. None of these things are easy to get in the US -- but we have our sources in NYC thank god. ;)

I love stand-up comedians. Some of my favorites are Eddie Izzard, Margaret Cho, Marc Maron, Janeane Garofolo

I've become interested in Buddhism. The writers I like the most currently on that subject are Mark Epstein, Pema Chodron -- and my fav -- Cheri Huber.

On my 39th birthday it will be 04/04/04. ;)

I'm an Aries (obviously, lol) with my moon in Taurus.

In Chinese astrology -- I'm a snake

And I'm left-handed.

Once again -- Have a great Birthday! :)

P. :rose:

Somewhere in Time was a great movie! The circular time aspect made me a little crazy though. The story was very heartwarming and sad at the same time.

Southpaw! Me too. :)

Book? Easy, 'Citizen of the Galixy' by Robert Heinlein (I'm about 50 pages from finishing 'Time Enough For Love' for the umpteenth time. I really do like his writing. Real 'Boy's Own Adventure' stuff :D )

Poetry?
HIGH FLIGHT

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept height with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high, untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

-- John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

(Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Jr. #412 Squadron,
RCAF (1922-1941), was a 19-year-old American/British
fighter pilot who flew with the Royal Canadian Air
Force in World War II. He came to Britain, flew in a
Spitfire Squadron, and was killed at age 19 on
December 11, 1941, during a training flight from the
airfield near Scopwick, Lincolnshire. The poem was
written on the back of a letter to his parents, which
stated, "I am enclosing a verse I wrote the other day.
It started at 30,000 feet, and was finished soon after
I landed.")

Film? Well I'm a Number One Jackie Chan Fan! (I bought Ruch Hour 2 last night) ANYTHING with him in gets my vote! I also like "Ronin", "Being John Malkovich", "Amilie", Star Trek (sorry...), James Bond (I'm going to a James Bond evening tomorrow night...), "Bound" "Highlander"... I could go on, I really love cinema, My Film collection is getting really quite massive.

Music? David Gray is the greatest singer/Songwriter ever. I love him. The album "White Ladder" must be listened to to be believed. It's amazing. My favourite song ever is 'Babylon', the second track. 'This Year's Love' is the only song that makes me cry every time I hear it, hence I don't listen to it that much!. I also like Simon and Garfunkle, Paul Simon (his solo stuff) Morcheeba (Sky Edwards has honey for a voice)... Again, the list goes on.

Play? Well my Degree is in Performing Arts. I majored in Lighting Design. I do like Shakespeare, I feel that he's one man who managed to say things in such a way that they'll be relevant for eternity. Christopher Marlowe wrote some good stuff too.

Art? Hmmmmmm, a tricky one. I love photography, especially my friends, I have loads of her work splattered around the place. Her long exposure stuff is stunning.

Anyway, there's a bit about me.

Art, I'm a big impressionist fan. I know that it's too fashionable, but I like the color, the lightness and the style of the paintings. I also respect the struggle for acceptance that they had.

I particularly like Renior's paintings, the soft and warm portrayals of women particularly. I like the Degas paintings of the Dancers too.
