A simple request of thread starters

Lately there's been a trend of bait and switch threads, like this:

TITLE: "Here's a picture of my pink pussy!"
CONTENTS: "Not really. HA HA HA! I'm just bored. What's your favorite brand of maple syrup?"

So often in the past it's been suggested to only read the threads that interest me and ignore those that don't. And I've been doing that to the best of my ability, but it makes it really difficult when people purposely set out to mislead me with the titles of their threads.

Obviously, I'm not going to order people to stop being this way or that. That never gets any results besides a big broohaha over the First Amendment. I just humbly ask that you please stop trying to trick me.

I agree. I hate to say it but I too have been trying to ignore threads that have no intrest for me, when you mislead it not only takes time up (that quite frankly not all of us have), but it makes you angry at the person that starts the thread, causeing tension between these two people, then making someone explode down the track. Okay breathing now.

Just don't trick us and we will ignore the threads that have no intrest. Oh and just so you know, if these people that do start the thread should happen to say something of interest, then bully for us, we miss out. That is our choice just as it is yours to post "what you damn well please".

Thank-you.

Well said Wisphersecret.

As the person who probably has the dubious distinction of starting the whole silly trend, it might surprise you to find out that I agree with you.

What started out as a bored Nitelight posting six fluffy threads in a ten minute period has gotten a little out of control. I'd like to see it trimmed back a tad. I've cut back a bit myself. Still, as others have pointed out, all the pointless threads in the world don't prevent people from posting interesting threads. I've been wracking my clever little brain all day, and I haven't come up with a damn thing.

I'm jummping in again here.

Nitelight it's not you that starts most of the nonsence threads anymore, and the thing is you seem to get blamed because your name is in most of the titles.

People need to settle down, have fun by all means, but do you really need to start a new thread everytime? I just don't understand that. There are so many threads that are meaningless, just keep posting in them instead of "oh looks like we need a new meaningless thread here".

I don't come here as often anymore and I'm finding that I have to go to page two and three just to see what has been posted on that particular date. Most of the good interesting threads are back on page three becuase people post crap all day. all because their bored. If your bored go surf, or write, catch up with friends, do something but please settle down on the nonsense threads, there not as fun as you might think them to be.

Nightlite, just be you, at least you have noticed this trend too and you agree that might just make others see it too.

Oooops!

Sorry, Whisp. Misread the title. Thought this was a request for simple thread starters.

I'll be on my way.

So, basically what you're telling us is that "pink pussy" subjects draw your attention? *smile*

I don't think WS is saying that the board shouldn't have silly threads.

Nitelight makes a good point that silly threads don't prevent interesting threads from being posted. However, they do make it difficult to find them, especially if the thread title is misleading. I agree with her.

I tried this request about a week ago, asking for better descriptions in the titls of new threads and no bait and switch tricks. Obviously, it got us no where. The one that pissed me off then was a "do you like..." *open thread* "Kenny G christmas music" or something stupid like that. It is a waste of time when you have a limited amount of time to spend on the board and there are all these bait and switch threads. Honesty in labeling, please.

Might do what I've done, that is identify the people that do this and then ignore them. I hve five, soon to be six individuals that I refuse to open their thread. If they ever do have something interesting to say(which I doubt) I will miss it as I refuse to play their stupid little games. They, of course, can post whatever they want. I, of, course can refuse to read their idiot posts

Maybe we could get Laurel and Manu to add a 'Jester' icon yhat could be used to identify the many meaningless threads. The only problem would be getting the guilty to use them.

Perfectly said :)

I expected flames, but got civil agreement. Thank you.

Nitelight, my respect for you just went up. I didn't mean to imply that I object to fluffy threads. Fluffy threads belong here as much as serious threads. I just don't like being tricked into thinking the thread is something of substance when it's not.

Roger! <smooches> Where have you been hiding yourself? The board has been lacking a certain something in your absence.

Oliver, of course, I'm not saying there shouldn't be silly threads. As you said the other day, the board is different things to different people. The silly people (heh heh, couldn't resist) have as much a right to board space as anyone else.

Nogard, believe me, I've made my list of the repeat offenders, but there's something in me that keeps hoping they might have something to say that might interest me, which is why the bait and switch threads really anger me. It's irrational, but when I open those, I actually get the feeling like I went to answer the front door and all I see is the back of some kid running away and laughing hysterically.

TN Vixen, no, this wasn't a "coming out" thread! LOL. I was just giving an example. Not that I mind looking at a pretty pussy. A muff pic is certainly more entertaining than reading that someone spent their morning rearranging their sock drawer.

Well...

The sock draw was sorted so I started on the T shirt draw, putting them into color coded piles. I put the darkest shades at the bottom and graduated the color till I reached the top. I put all the ones with text on them into an alphabetical pile.

I almost scrached my ass a minute ago, but started reading this thread and forgot--

The only shame is that these threads shove other threads onto the second page in a few hours, instead of letting them have longer spans of time on page 1, since most people don't go to page two, or beyond.

Yes, the good threads are still there, you just have to look for them. Why should we have to do that because someone has brain farts all over the board? Some of us just don't have the time to methodically search through several pages. I've adopted the same policy Nogard. There are several threadstarters whose threads I never read, moreover, if I open a thread and they've posted more than three times on the first page, I'm probably not reading the thread again.

They don't give a fuck about other people and I don't particularly give a fuck about them either. Netiquette is obviously an outdated practice. I've learned it, I quit hijacking serious threads and kamikaze posting, it didn't do anyone any good when I did it. The BB isn't a chatroom. The Mystified thread and the Neverending thread are wonderful because it gives people an open forum to "chat" without clouding the board with tons of chaff.

NOTE: Because of Laurel's gentle chastisement, this post was edited to remove the name of someone I had singled out. I also added a bit to my response to KM, to clarify what I thought she was saying.

KM: The only shame is that these threads shove other threads onto the second page in a few hours, instead of letting them have longer spans of time on page 1, since most people don't go to page two, or beyond.

Exactly. Most of us don't have unlimited time to browse here. It takes a lot of time to get through page one. There are the threads I read in earnest and then post upon. That takes quite a bit of time in and of itself. But to GET to those threads, I have to open threads I think might be interesting, find out they aren't, click back to the main page, many times over. By then, I just don't have the motivation to go to page two, which is a shame because I'm sure some worthy threads get edged out there.

Yep, I'll go along with all of this, I'm glad someone else finally brought this up. I figured If I did, it might cause more of the same, and it has.

I sent emails to some of the missing Literoticans, the ones I used to look for interesting posts, asking them where they have been, and they've all pretty much said the same thing.

I'm not here to tell anybody how to post, do what you want, I do. If you want to start a new thread every time you think of something to say, go ahead. I have a long list of members I ignore, and it gets longer everyday. I just don't have the time to read all the threads that are started everyday. I can either go back three pages and read what was posted yesterday, or I can just assume there's just more of the same old same old.

If you have time to read every one of these threads, you need a life.

Go ahead and flame, I probably won't even read it. Better than that, why don't you start another thread, yeah.

Because people, for some strange reason, post on his threads and encourage him.

Just the one's with a sense of humor, or intelligence. Sorry, that was too easy. No, really, I aplolgize. Sorry. For everything. Really.

Lighten up and/or ignore him. Hell, I know there's people/threads that I ignore. ~sigh~ It's not worth bitching about.

Wait a minute.

You have time to play at a sex site, but not enough time to look at page two? Ok. Just checking.

Purple Haze Yep, I'll go along with all of this, I'm glad someone else finally brought this up. I figured If I did, it might cause more of the same, and it has.

Well, that was a given. However, I think that it says something to the BB population in general about the ones who thumb their noses at this and continue, chanting, "Neener, neener!"

I sent emails to some of the missing Literoticans, the ones I used to look for interesting posts, asking them where they have been, and they've all pretty much said the same thing.

Yes, wondering where Lovely Latina and Siren were was part of what prompted me to "complain." Some of us are still hanging in there, but if people don't air this type of annoying phenomenon, the board continues to be overrun, which benefits no one except the five or six people who participate in the empty threads. That's my theory at least. I hoped that the silly people would get tired of it, but it's been so long that I felt I had to say something, and I really did try to say it in the nicest way I could think of. (Oliver can testify to how long it took me to craft the original post.)

What we say here probably isn't going to influence the people it should, however, if people just wouldn't respond on those threads, they would stop. Yet, I think that just one single response eggs them on. Notice who responds. If they're your friends, ask them why they respond. Sometimes people don't even realize they're part of the problem. Or maybe they do realize and don't care. Personally, I'd much rather interact with people who are considerate.

Look at the nunber of people that read the post versus the number that reply. Dummies can't divide Hopefully someday they will leave

Nogard I think I'm falling in love with you.

We think the same way. Thank-you for saying that.

Hey Nogard what is a nunber??? I think dividing may not be the only things dummies cannot do.
