If you keep hitting "reload" while looking at the following page, you can see the donations going up and up in real time. We donated and if you have a couple dollars to spare, it would be a nice gesture.

As has been mentioned, blood is also in high demand, and I've seen on the news that people are donating like crazy.

Thank you to all of you great people. :)

Thanks for the link, Laurel. Amazing. I've donated as well.

That's great! This link needs to get out there so more people can donate!

in the terms of money.. i'm not a rich person.. i'm very frugal and i watch my money closely.. well except for my weekly spending on cigs.. so.. i made a deal with myself... i donated one months worth of cig money to them.. i will either have to scrimp and break into the kids penny banks or not smoke at all.. i figure the no smoking is the best... i've done a good thing for people who need it, and i'm not breaking any laws (or hearts) by breaking the beloved Petunia The Piggy bank...

so, if my little $100 will help just one person.. i've done a good thing.. right? ok.. now.. how do i make 1 pack of cigs last the rest of the month?

Hey, they have a maximum amount accepted of only $50!

*heading back to try again*

edit: It works to enter more than one donation to get around the upper limit.

Well, my 10 buck donation was accepted.

God. I feel so useless. Many better people are gone, and I'm here.

Why them? Why not me? Why was I here, and not there......

*sighs*

No, 10 dollars didn't assuage my guilt. It's just all I can spare.

I couldn't donate because I don't have a credit card. But I am going to donate both blood and money tommorrow.

Also, I'm glad this is a sticky now!

Ughhh

Being a college student sucks at times like this. I don't have enough money for books let alone to donate anything. Maybe next week I can do something, but not now. It pisses me off that I can't give blood either.

if it hasn't been mentioned already.. Red Cross will have donation envelopes available at their locations.. in addition to/instead of giving blood.

just received this email.. thought you would all like to see it

On behalf of the entire Network Commerce staff, we wish to express sincere sympathy to anyone affected by the recent World Trade Center, Pentagon and Pittsburgh Tragedies. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have suffered. For those receiving this note, we hope you are well and safely with your loved ones.

As a concerned citizen, you may be asking how you can help the victims of the recent disaster. The answer is simple: Please give to the American Red Cross.

Your donation will help thousands of people in a time of great need. American Red Cross resources are strained during emergencies of this magnitude. Please read the following official message from the American Red Cross and respond in this time of need.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Walker

American Red Cross

World Trade Center, Pentagon and Pittsburgh Tragedies

The American Red Cross has immediately responded to the explosions at the World Trade Center in New York City and in the Pentagon and on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. that occurred early in the morning on September 11, 2001. The Red Cross has activated its Aviation Incident Response (AIR) Team to respond in New York City and trained disaster workers from the American Red Cross are providing relief in the affected areas.

80,000 blood donations in the American Red Cross blood inventory are ready to ship to affected areas and will ensure that patients' lives are saved. In the wake of these traumatic events lies a wide path of catastrophic physical and psychological destruction in which countless victims will require assistance. In addition to meeting the physical needs of the affected regions, the American Red Cross will be providing crisis mental health counseling.

"The American Red Cross is doing everything we can to ensure the immediate availability of the safest possible blood," said Dr. Bernadine Healy, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "We are also dispatching hundreds of trained disaster workers and mental health counselors to New York, Washington D.C. and elsewhere," she added.

The fastest and most effective way to help the victims of this disaster is through cash and blood donations, which allow for the best use of resources. All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.

To make a blood donation, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or contact your local blood service organization. To help the victims of this and other disasters through a financial contribution, call 1-800- HELP-NOW to make a credit card donation or Internet users can make a secure online credit card contribution by clicking here.

You can also mail a donation to the American Red Cross, designating "Disaster Relief Fund" on the memo line of the check, at the American Red Cross, PO Box 37243 Washington DC 20013.

hope this helps..

It's wonderful to see that humanity still exists. I donated. Nothing feels like enough.

Freakgurl...BRAVO

To those who can't donate money or blood, prayer in any form, goes a long way.

My prayers go out even now, as will my cash donation on the morrow. I just wish there was more I could do.

By 3:15 am

The total donation is.........$184,113.00

wow thats alot.

Probably be over 250,000 by morning rush hour.

Thinking 500,000 plus by midday/late afternoon.

Just broke 200,000

Did it alot earlier then i expected too.

It will be a half a mill, in no time.

I sent the link to all of my friends and family. They will all join in, because they are wonderful people.

I am a student, living off loans, and small amounts of savings. I am only able to give 10 bucks, and that is actually not cool, because it isn't 'my' money, but I don't care, and I want to do more than that.

I want to give 100's of dollars, and I want to give canned food and blankets. I want to give medicine, and coffee and food to doctors. Who is feeding them? I wish I were there to feed them.

My mind won't stop thinking of this shit.

Laurel, I have updated the buttons and links available at http://www.appercept.co.uk/wtc.htm if you want to put one on Lit's home page for financial donations.

There are now buttons for dollars and for pounds. If anyone wants the same button for a different currency, just let me know.

Cheers,
Bri

oh wow the donations are up to beyond $212,000!!! Keep giving people we are helping so much.

It just broke $300,000. I guess there is some humanity left in today's moden and busy age. God bless everyone who can and does contribute in any way possible.

Went and contributed again... Almost $340,000 as I write this...
There's a certain satisfaction in reloading the page and seeing the number go up...
