So I’ve mentioned it in other posts but one issue that I will never back down from is better treatment of sex workers and legalization of prostitution. I think it’s bullcrap that places like Patreon and Onlyfans built themselves up on lewd imagery and now constantly police and threaten to pull support for pornography, it’s bullshit that PayPal doesn’t allow itself to be used to purchase lewd or pornographic items, and it’s bullcrap that banks can freeze accounts of suspected sex workers.

Anywho: what about a story or collections of stories where sex work is treated as just another job? Where it’s not only legal but there’s unions, conventions, trade schools, etc. Sex workers aren’t deified, they are just your neighbors, family members etc.

And that’s no reason it can’t be sexy, lol.

For example:

1. Small town whore:

Our lead moves to a small town, calls the regional office to get registered and starts offering her services. The town is a bit surprised but starts coming to see her. To her shock, the town is actually very happy to discuss her services with them. Soon she’s the talk of the town and everyone is coming up to her, buying her drinks just to talk about her anecdotes (“now Jill, is it true that when you were with Paul he came so hard he actually shot off his condom?”). Soon she’s seen as a pillar of the community and even joins the city council, much to her bemusement (“Jill, Melissa said she’d be late and wanted to see if she could extend her time an hour, is that okay? Anyway onto the Harvest Festival.”)

2. At an upscale brothel the girls compete to be the star of the establishment (getting to be on the billboard and on the homepage).

3. Job shadowing. Students shadow prostitutes, strippers, and pornographers.

Prostitution wasn't always looked down upon.

Heathen temples employed prostitutes to collect for their upkeep.

Jesus' best friend, and by some accounts wife, was a former prostitute.

Prostitutes also kept bank for sailors in English port cities.

Most places those ships went developed in roughly this order: trading post, fishermen, docks, brothel... THEN farmers, warehouses, banks, churches, schools...

Shirley MacLaine was a prostitute who helped get the French out of Mexico.

Prostitutes were leading members of the community in a great many early frontier towns.

In Alaska "Soapy" Smith was a notorious con-artist and raketeer. His gang struck fear in the hearts of many in Skagway's Gold Rush. But he went too far when one of his gang killed Ella Wilson, a much beloved African-American prostitute. (It was a robbery, but she suffocated on the gag that was used.) Upon the gangs return to town they were ambushed by citizens with Winchesters. Three were killed including Smith.

Decades ago, when I was younger-- and dinosaurs roamed the earth-- prostitutes were generally bored housewives making a few bucks in the middle of the day or when their husbands were out on the fishing boats. It was a different time.

"Live Nude Girls Unite!" as one union organizing poster said. I agree. It is legal work and should be treated with the same respect as the banker, the butcher, and the bus driver.

I love these ideas, especially No 2, a top tier high roller type brothel where the working girls (and men) get a bigger cut of the fees and profit sharing and stock grant bonuses, etc. Perhaps a floating price structure where prices get bid up for the most popular girls. Even outplacement counseling for those who want to move on to other careers. And of course it attracts all the best girls - best at sex and customer satisfaction, not most glamorous, perfect 10 etc. The place offers all kinds and styles and sizes of women (legal age and licensed of course). Lots of stories of the girls wildest and/or hottest encounters with back stories, their "interview" try outs that got them hired, of corruption and bribery and cheating in high places.

The county seat of my tiny Sierra Nevada county was immortalized in Curt Gentry's The Last Days of the Late Great State of California as having the state's last legally-tolerated whorehouses, with tunnels connecting the courthouse with brothels for easy access. That's a model for any jurisdiction IMHO. Branching tunnels could lead to opium dens and other sites of vice. Keep vice off the streets! Keep it underground, where it belongs!

Stuttgart (Baden Wurtemburg, Germany) had the same arrangement, tunnels under the alleyway separating the Rathaus (where you keep all the rats, I suppose) and the "House of Three Colors" (colors referring to client proclivities).

Queen of Whores

A quick concept of genesis for such in a pseudo historical or high fantasy setting.

A kingdom was at war and in shambles, and pretty much anyone had betrayed the old king. All he's left with was a band of overseas mercenaries, the biggest baddest scumbags, but most fierce warriors anyone had ever seen, who, while outnumbered, still could win the war for him in one daring battle, if the king had anything left at hand to pay them with. Vague promises of land deeds and titles after the victory just wouldn't do it.

But the king has daughter or rather daughters, say four of them. His unwillingness to wed them in gainful deals may even had been at the core of his downfall.

Maybe it was indeed the captain of the mercenaries, even as he might have had feelings for the youngest daughter, but perhaps it was the king's own marshal with his own lewd intent, but highly unlikely the king himself, who suggested that the greatest treasure the king has, the honor of his daughters is intact and can be spent or promised right away. Defeat would mean them killed at best, raped and sold in slavery more likely anyway. (ETA: of course it very likely could have been the oldest daughter herself who proposed the scheme originally.)

And so it was said, that any knight surviving that battle could have his way with any or all of the daughters. The battle, insanely bloody as it was, was won by the captain of the mercenaries, the marshal was slain, the king gravely wounded, but survived long enough to see the victory declared and the promised reward administered.

After his death, it was the captain of the mercenaries who declared the oldest daughter the Queen of Whores and himself the Queen's Pimp, as the church of the land wouldn't accept him as king or his marriage with all four girls anyway. Together they rule smart, cunning and successful enough to see the kingdom restored and expanded far beyond previous glory.

Since then, the Queen of the land is the whore in charge and her prime man is known as her pimp, and sex workers are kept in great regard as the Great United Whoredom wouldn't exist without the heroic deed of the princesses.
