I have been a long time lurker on this website after discovering it, and it opened up a whole new world for me when it came to erotic stuff. There really is something special about reading a piece of erotic fiction and letting your imagination do the work in building the world for you. I have written some small short erotic stories myself on a diary app on my phone to see if I could actually come up with something that at least I enjoyed, and I think that I did a pretty good job with them.

There are at least 2 or 3 stories that I have come across in my time on this website that were really good, or at least had a really good idea for the plot of the story, and then there was no follow up to it. Sometimes the dialogue isnt as good as I would like it but I still like the story. What is the rule for redoing a story, and/or continuing someone else's story that they have written? For instance I am currently rewriting a one off story that I found from years and years ago that had a premise that I really liked. I am going through and rewriting dialogue, adding a lot of new stuff, and will be expanding on the sex scenes by going much more in depth with them. Is this against the rules? I also would like to continue the story as a multi-series story and not just a rewrite of a one-off story. I would love some feedback on whether this is allowed or not.

Also what happens if a story just one day vanishes from the site? did that author delete their account? One of my favorite series just vanished from the site and I had to use the wayback machine to find it again. Are we allowed to re-post those stories back, or would that be against the rules. Thank you in advance and I hope you guys get to read my stories one of these days.

The rule is simple: don't appropriate anybody else's work as your own. Not their stories, not their characters, not their worldbuilding.

To continue another writer's story, you need *explicit and positive* permission. If they deleted their stories, they did so for a reason and it would be beyond bad form to post them again under your own name.

But you can write your own stories that are inspired by someone else's works or characters or ideas or settings. After all, ideas are cheap and easy to come by. It's turning them into real stories where the real work lies. And in the writing the rough ideas will quickly become your own.

Just don't steal someone else's words. Write your own.

A flat-out rewrite or continuation of someone else's work isn't allowed, unless you get express permission from the writer.

What is allowed, and encouraged, is to write your own story, influenced as it may be by others you've read.

edit: in other words, what he said ^

Totally understood. A bit of a shame as there are some damn good one off stories I would love to continue but I will take that as inspiration to write my own story with the same kind of plot. I will most likely either not waste my time with the other story or just take what I have written and put it into my own original story. I do appreciate the fast responses. I definitely dont want to break any rules, I just want to write some erotic stories.

definitely a good way to put it, and in all honesty it might make it easier to write a story that way than attempt to fix dialogue or rework scenes from an existing story anyway. I will just spend my time working on my own original stories.

I've been inspired by other people's stories and one of my most popular is based on the 1964 movie "Father Goose".

My work is only vaguely similar to the original and is okay to use because it is protected as 'parody' like any other kind of fan fiction.

I even changed a lot of the character names to form an original work. Yet I give credit to the work that inspired me.

No reason why you can't do something along those lines if you wish.

Essentially thats what I was doing. Going line by line and rewriting the dialogue in my own voice, changing character names, redoing whole scenes, fixing grammatical errors, etc., but I do think writing my own original story from scratch would actually be easier because It will allow me to flow a lot easier than having to go line by line and try to find a way to rewrite someone elses work. Although I will say there are several story ideas that I would love to make my own version of, and one of my favorite stories on here actually did have someone else make their own version and I quite liked them both. Sadly the original story was the one I mentioned no longer being on the site, at least as far as I can tell.

Don't just rewrite someone else's work. Write a new story in your own words and with your own plot devices. ;)

That is what I am doing now. I am actually finding it easier to do. Plus since I dont have a ton of experience writing stories I can make it a slightly shorter story especially if I want to make it a multi-part series.
