What's the story behind these chocolate coins?

Just curious.

:D

I just realized while at the store today that I have no idea what the chocolate coins are all about. lol I grew up in a predominantly Jewish part of town and know my fair share about Jewish culture, but never questioned the coins before today. lol Someone care to divulge?

I was going to make this a thread for Nora, but I don't see her around. lol

They are produced each year at the WMF and have Secret New Worl Order messages on them under the foil in Hebrew....including which movies are going to be "big" this year.

It used to be traditional to give coins to the kids as gifties at Chanukah, called Chanukah gelt. Gelt is the yiddish word for gold, aka cold, hard cash.

Nowadays, the kids think you're a cheap bastard if you give 'em a nickel, so they made 'em chocolate to shut the little bastards up.

Mmmmm... chocolate. :D

(I knew you'd be the one to answer me regardless of how I set this thread up. lol)

And now... you wanna explain why fish is sold in a jar? Heh. j/k :D

Not 'til you're older. ;)

(actually, I gotta go home now...I'll tell you when I get there. *huggles*)

I'll be dreamin' sweet dreams by the time you get home, mah dear. :D

'Night!!
