A quiet little town of blasphemers

A twist on the quiet christian town getting upended by a new rise in sexual promiscuity

In this case: the quiet little town is a nice peaceful place...where orgies and communing with beings that would be called demons take place and the new factor that comes to endanger it is a lost Christian family who get stuck in the town (maybe townsperson who died was family, maybe it’s their last road trip vacation before the home becomes an empty nest and the car breaks down, maybe the family wanted to move somewhere in the country, etc.)

When they get there, everything seems fine. Air is great, everyone is pretty friendly, good homespun American values.

Only thing is, something keeps happening out of the corner of their eyes: the nurse at the retirement home seemed to be getting intimate with a resident on the swing and they could have sworn she had to tuck a tail back into her scrubs, the church is kept up but the statues are strange. Instead of Mary, there’s a strong looking woman and her many daughters embracing men and women in ways that are more intimate than comforting and there’s no cross, and they swear there’s sounds coming from the woods at night.

One night one of them heads out and finds a full on orgy taking place with masked participants. Something strange is going on in the town and as time goes on, the family isn’t sure if they want to flee...or join in.

We need a locale. I nominate River City, Iowa, setting of THE MUSIC MAN. Or Freehold, the quiet, bucolic, rural mid-American village I used in Randy's Revenge, which "made THE MUSIC MAN look like a cheap documentary."

Let's call your town Perfection, Kansas, just north of Wichita and east of the Flint Hills. Like Manhattan, Kansas, which was founded by anti-slavery New Yorkers, Perfection was founded by a Carolina Baptist offshoot sect -- that went a little far as it evolved, with orgiastic nude adult baptisms and re-baptisms. But residents had to keep that underground, so as not to alarm bypassers. Do townsfolk get careless with time, thus allowing your Xian family to see hints of the local reality? Or is the revelation purposeful, to gain new recruits who aren't inbred? What is special about the newcomers?

Old time religion

"Give me that old time religion
Give me that old time religion
Give me that old time religion
It's good enough for me

"We will pray with Aphrodite
We will pray with Aphrodite
She wears that see-through nightie
And it's good enough for me

"We will pray with Zarathustra
We'll pray just like we use ta
I'm a Zarathustra booster
And it's good enough for me

"We will pray with those Egyptians
Build pyramids to put our crypts in
Cover subways with inscriptions
And it's good enough for me

"We will pray with those old druids
They drink fermented fluids
Waltzing naked though the woo-ids
And it's good enough for me

"We do dances to bring water
Prepare animals for slaughter
Sacrifice our sons and daughters
And it's good enough for me

"I'll arise at early morning
When my Lord gives me the warning
That the solar age is dawning
And it's good enough for me"

--Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston (1959)
