A Quick Question...

What is the age of consent for a story on Lit?
18 yrs on the day.

That's right, to fuck with a story, it has to be 18 years old. ;)

double post junk

Stupid non-serious followup question to replace my double post: Does that mean that we can ignore that rule in NonConsent?

Hmm, yeah I stumbled across a story series a while back that mentions that two girls very much participating is in the eight and tenth grade. I'm not 100% sure of how old that is, but I think that's way too young. Right?

Judge for yourself (It's "oh this is natual, healthy and everyone is sooo happy about it"-cliché incest):

I didn't think much of it, but should I report this to someone?

When I was in the eighth grade I was 13...

Hmm

Funny thing at 16 the character isn't breaking any laws in most countries, just the story itself that falls foul of the censors and thought police.

Having said that of course a line has to be drawn somewhere I suppose on internetland.

I'll mark that of as a definitive "yuck" then. As pop said, I can accept 16 (itseemed just fine when I was ;) ), but 13 is below any line of mine. Where do I officially adress my bitching?

Linbido,

I would guess to Laurel - you can e-mail her from the link below:

Lime

PS - I would agree 16 seems OK to me, but 13 is definitely over the line.
Besides, there are rules on what get to be on Lit regardless of our values. I think there was a thread about this not too long ago. It says 18, because that keeps the legal squad of moral fanatics reasonally at bay.

And because Laurel says so. Should be reason enough.

Joe Cookie,

Looks like your sleuthing done did some good. Best I can tell, Laurel has pulled both stories mentioned in this thread.

This is the city...:)

It's supposed to be 18 regardless, but I supposed the occasional thing gets past Laurel...but as demonstrated she'll eventually catch up to it.

She does a great job, she's also human. Heck after hours of reading story after story no one can fault her if the occasional story slips through...:)

About once a fortnight.

... and again and again and again.

as the limerick says.

The Lucky Ones refers to the rape of 16-year-old character. I told Laurel about it in my notes when I submitted, but I explained that it was left in because it was keeping with reality given the setting and situation in which the rape took place. It survived Laurel's cut. I'm not saying that's a recommendation for the story. As far as I'm concerned it's the worst thing I've published here so far. But apparently if it's done with responsibility and sensitivity it can be approved. Despite my own disappointment in The Lucky Ones, I will say it maintained some level of responsibility. The rape victim does not enjoy being raped and her attackers are cast as villains.

Literature of all kinds, even filth, does serve a purpose: it reflects life. In real life many people have sex at an early age, and literature *must*, not *can* but *must* reflect that. I abhor any neofascist political shite who thinks he or she has a right to pass laws that limit the age of characters in erotic fiction. In my view, editors and readers are responsible for deciding what is appropriate based on literary merit. This should not be a legal or political issue, because history proves that having art that reflects our experiences is essential to our being.
