A Question That Perplexes Me

I just recieved what must by now be well over a hundred feedback messages on my story, "A Woman's Secret." I wrote it last July, and they still driible in. The voting is unimportant to me, but I must have touched a lot of people with a story that was written more as entertainment than anything else. But there was truth behind it. I was in one of those silly moods, and I didn't expect it to get the response that it did. Many who responded were women, and I confess I wrote it for women. What perplexes me is why other stories like it don't seem to have been written. As a woman, and as a devoted monogamist, I know women satisfy their needs as men do when they have no other choice. So many have witten me and said they related to the story, but no others like it have appeared. Just curious, but am I missing something? Is there a need for another category? I don't have any literary pretensions, but I am curious. Is it because women don't like to articulate these things even anonymously?

The link to your story. :)

I actually didn't relate to it. Well, I did to an extent, but not with any urgency or need. There are times when I prefer to be alone to being with my guy, but those are few and far between.

I don't like to write solosex stories. The conflict is too internal and the dialogue is necessarily non-existent. Give me narrative and I'll give you a string of fifty dollar words. My soliloquies do not get the readers' motors revving.

I generally don't like to read them either. Yours had decent conflict to it, which is rare in a solosex story. Most solosex is just doesn't crank my tractor.

There may be more

Literotica has 20,000 or more stories. I seem to recall stories about solo sex, but can't name any right offhand.

What works in your story is that it hits all the right notes -- the secrecy, the embarrassment mixed with curiosity and need, the experimentation, the semi-guilty feeling of wanting the husband to leave-- which give it a very honest feel. Obviously, many women relate well to it. The PTA-mom with the secret fantasy life pushes my button as well.

Why you haven't seen more stories like it since is anyone's guess, but here's my take: 1) you did that style of story so well, there's no reason for another author to replicate it or 2) most authors here generally aren't inclined to write with such restraint, and likely would take your plot beyond the nipple clamps (which was the one detail I thought sounded 'off-key' in the story) to having the character in exhibitionist displays, wild sex or other realms. Basically, 'how and why I masturbate' isn't a story line that is perceived as appealing to most writers and readers, who tend to favor a more intense scenario. However, I'm pleased that you've gotten the response you have. (Amazing in a way: my 6 stories combined have prob. generated only a dozen responses on the feedback form.)

There are other stories about masturbation and toys. But you give meaning to the experience and create a real character, which elevates the story a good deal. (It may also help that alphabetically, your story sits at the front of the Toys section.)
