A Question on Voting/Views

My first story has gotten over 2600 views (in less than a week) but only 60 odd votes. Why would so many people read it and then not vote? Just curious.

Also...is there a way to find out how many of each vote we got?? i.e. the number of votes that were ones....etc.....

Actually, that's a damn good ratio! I've got a story with 23,000 views and 36 votes. ;-)

Unless you hang out on your View Submissions page, keep refreshing and catch each vote as it comes in, you cannot tell what the breakdown is. All you get is the averaged score.

Still, keep in mind why most readers are coming here: They just want to find something to masturbate to.

A 'view' does not equal a 'read'. Many non-voters back-clicked, because your story doesn't match their fantasies.

Many other readers will back-click if they don't like the tense the story is written in, the point of view it's written from, or because you named a character after their mother. Or perhaps you spelled their favorite word wrong, or maybe they realized there would be no bestiality.

If I don't like a story, I often do not vote. Only sometimes will I give a negative vote. How does one get to the view submissions page. I can't find it.

Ah.....ok.....thanks for your info. I didnt expect everyone that read it (or clicked on it to begin with) to vote and send feedback....but seeing as how Im new here, I was just curious as to what was considered "normal"...if there is such a thing.

Something else Ive been curious about.....Ive been told (and read here) that publishers come in here and will buy stories from writers......I have been curious and wanted to ask...but didnt want to sound ridiculous (or presumptious) having it come from a new writer.....but lets just say that some sort of miracle happens and I am approached by someone who wants to use one of my stories....I have NO clue at all what "going rate" would be for a story.....can anyone give me any sort of guidelines for this at all?

Please realize...that Im not assuming this is ever going to happen (im hopeful though.....for some time in the future)....but would like to have some sort of knowledge just in case.

As for your question about going rates, it really all depends. The 'professional' rate is around three cents a word. Some anthologies will offer a flat fee no matter what the story length (I just sold one for 25 bucks). Others will offer a share of royalties, or contributor copies.

Those numbers are for print publications, btw. I'm not well-versed in what the online end of the business is like.

Thank you for your info Sabledrake. I was really wondering about fees....I think what Im most afraid of is either being taken advantage of, or even worse, holding out for a price that probably wont be offered.....at any rate, I guess that I will learn as I go. Thanks again.

As a reader, I have used the site for over a year, and admit I occasionally don't always rate stories - particularly ones which are too long. Scrolling down the split screen can get a bit tiresome.
You've got it just right - Your genuine approach to setting, romance, raunchyness and raw sexiness felt real. Coupled with your website made it all very real and deserving of recognition.

Wow.....first of all, let me say thank you for your comments here. Its nice to know some of the "whys" and your explanation helped. I also dont like stories that are too long, which is why I make mine the length that they are.

Im glad that you enjoyed them, and felt that I had the right combination.

I have a 3rd story that has been pending since last Friday. Im hoping its up soon and invite you to read it. Its a little different and so far the friendly feedback (from my site and from friends) has been very encouraging to say the least.
