sin·is·ter [ˈsɪnəstər]
–adjective 1. threatening or portending evil, harm, or trouble; ominous: a sinister remark.
2. bad, evil, base, or wicked; fell: his sinister purposes.
3. unfortunate; disastrous; unfavorable: a sinister accident.
4. of or on the left side; left.
5. Heraldry. noting the side of an escutcheon or achievement of arms that is to the left of the bearer (opposed to dexter).
I've noticed that a lot of actors/writers/musicians/etc, people of an artistic bent, are southpaws. I was just currious to see what the ratio around the AH is.

I'm right handed, btw. :D

Right-handed.

I waterski goofy-footed, though (my left leg is the stronger, for some reason).

Your left leg is stronger because that's the one you lead with when you walk and so forth. It's normal. Left handed people's right leg will generally be stronger.

That's weird...I would have thought the opposite. I was the only right-handed/left-footed skier on the team. Everyone else was either right/right or left/left. I remember because they made such a big deal over me not being that way.

I'm right-handed, but could cope left-handed if I had to. I don't consider myself ambidextrous.

I'm ambi. I've never taken a conscious preference and when painting or writing for extended periods of time I chose whichever hand is not tired. I do favor left for throwing and right for eating :)

*sigh* Strine strikes again - quick translation: left handed.

Very right-handed. BUT, keep in mind that it is a myth that "Handedness" correlates to hemispheric dominance or, for that matter, that women are more left and men more right. And it is the hemispheic dominance of the brain the decides whether we're more inclined to be "wordsmiths" (writers--Left hemisphere dominant) or artists/musicians (right hemisphere domiant). Whether our creativity is linked to verbal/written expression or in creating images/musical expression.

If handedness was related to brain dominance than writers would be overwhelmingly right-handed (Left hemisphere deals with the right side) and artists/musicians overwhelmingly left-handed (right hemisphere deals with the left side).

I predict, by the way, that you're probably going to get the usual percentage of lefties--which is 1 in 10 (give or take a few ambis, who might be lefties who were taught to use their right hand).

That's what I've read. It meshes with the fact that that's how I am too. Maybe we're both strange? :D

Yeah, I'd heard that the correlation wasn't as exact as they used to think. I wonder about strange things, I know. :cathappy:

Right handed, but I have noticed the high number of left-handers in the artistic communities of the world.

I've also noticed that left-handed drummers who play on a right-handed set are usually better than right handed drummers on similar sets.

I was just ribbin' ya, doll. I figured that was what you meant since there was only one vote for a lefty and the ambi had been accounted for. :D I had to tease though cuz that's the first time I've come across that euphamisum.

Who's Strine, btw?

There are those who will tell you that left handed drummers are just better all around. Ringo is a lefty and played on a right handed set. I'm not sure how many people would think that was a good example though. :p

I'm a dexter, but I do many things "backwards": collate papers, carry trays, serve drinks, etc., differently from what everyone else thinks is the right way. Maybe semi-ambi would be a better choice.

Lefty here, although I can't work a pair of scissors in my left hand to save my life. I feel like a chimp trying to do algebra with scissors in my left hand, much the same as I do with a pencil or anything else in my right.

So, if we put scissors in your left hand and a pencil in your right...you'd be helpless...effectively...

Depends upon the situation. If you want me to cut paper and write something, I'd make for good comedy. I could still use both with fine effectiveness as weapons, though, so I'd hardly say I would be helpless http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i296/Darkniciad/evil.gif

That's the one area where I'm semi-ambi. I play through the sword fights in my stories a lot, actually getting a feel for the motions as I invision them. I've found that I have pretty much the same amount of finesse and movement in my right hand/arm for that sort of thing as my left, if less raw strength for things like reversing momentum of a swing and such.

Bugger...thought I'd found someone to toy with. :D I ain't even had any fight scenes in anything yet, so you've got the advantage on me.
