A question for those who shave/wax

I shave every once in a while, but very rarely because I absolutely hate the ruff stubble that pops up by the next day. While I shower every day, I can not shave that area every day, it gets red, swollen, itchy, and burns. Does waxing help with this?

Any suggestions? I see all these pictures of cleanly shaven men and women and they look so soft, never irritated or anything...I'm jealous.

You might wander to the How To threads and read their little black book. It has some good info on shaving and may other topics too.

Shave wax?

I have black hair. And although im not hairy, but i was instructed that i was to shave daily. And that's coz the regrowth required it. I got red and sore.
I followed the advice, but still, id be shaving daily, and i was not able to do so without ending up with a rash. Despite all the tips.
So then i went over to waxing. If you live near a asian/china town area, id highly recommend asian waxers. They are fab in my experience. Quick and efficient.
Hurts like hell. Take ibuprofen 45 minutes before hand and never on a period. And the pain gets a tad less each time. And now, i actually enjoy going. Sick, i know:)
Now my hair grows at just the same speed as before. Only, i only have to do it 3 weekly. And when im skint, i can do a fab job myself. But im slow. And that's not good.
I get 2 weeks of perfection, and one week of scruffies. Then i go again.

At the same time i started waxing (2 yrs ago) my friend started her expensive trip down the laser PERMANENT hair removal route. (2 yrs on she's spent a heck of lot more than me, and still has to tweezer herself monthly for the few hairs left).

This debate always reminds me of terries or disposable debates in mums. They've all got merit and downfalls, each and every method.

that my squint on things anyhow.

Liking the Brazillian

I got a brazillian for the first time two summers ago before a vacation in Hawaii and it was fabulously sexy. First, though, the woman doing it was bi. That helped. She had me put on these little panties (a disposable thong, that she ended up moving here and there as she went). The lovely warm wax, the smoothing of the strips and then the tart pain were only made better by the way she rapidly massaged the skin after. I was so wet and needing to cum by the time it was over. I swore after that that if I ever had a pet, I'd use waxing hair off as a pleasureable torture. (It's particularly satisfying in the buttcrack, I find.)

I am required by my Goddess to keep my genitals smooth so I shave every week. The secret for me is to use a Schick Intuition razor, the kind which is basically surrounded by a big hunk of soap/lubricant, do it in a nice warm shower, and take my time. I do get a bit stubbly by the fourth day or so but I can't shave any more frequently than that and Goddess understands. So it's weekly for me. I also get my legs waxed every fall after the first frost (I have to keep them smooth throughout the winter) and while it hurts like hell when you have that much hair and long legs, I do look forward to it as well. I'm just a pain-slut I guess. :) After the initial waxing I Nair ever two weeks or so, or I shave weekly. My aesthetician friend who waxes my legs for me tried to do my groin and it just didn't work well for my skin and hair type so I stick to shaving.

I stil pretty much rely on the epilator..can be risky in those hard to get at places, but given the time to spend and relaxing with a little extra care hleps and keeps things soft and smooth for around 3 weeks.

I tried the Intuition razor, but honestly, there isn't enough room between my legs for the soap and the razor to go. I actually found I prefer to use shavers made for men, I find they are sharper. And I do only the lips, not the part above (for once my online dictionary lets me down, how do you call the part of anatomy where the pubic hair grows that's between the slit and the belly?). Too much itch, and neither me nor my honey like the look.

Mons pubic or pubic mound or mons veneris. :)

I have been smooth shaved for years...at least 8 years. I use the intuition shaver as well and love it. I use these tiny bikini zone razors I found for the lip area, and follow up a few hours later with the body bare dry shaver for any leftover stubble. I rarely have problems with irritation....but that comes from years of training my body to be shaved. Irritation, redness and bumps are normal for the first couple weeks to months that you shave. You have to keep up with it and allow your body to adjust if you expect it to go away. People get impatient and give up and then try starting over again at some point and it just starts a never finished cycle of irritation all over again.

Aveeno Shave Gel made all the difference in the world for me. I started using it 7 years ago and am still hair free.

I gave up and atarted using the one gaurd, virtually no hair, just beyond prickly. I have considered waxing though...

Don't you have to let the hair grow out to wax???

I don't like that.

I shave every other day or more often.

Last night I cut myself.

I've been shaving for a few years and I like the schick quatro for my bikini line and a gilette Daisy twin blade for my labia. I still get bumps if I wear underwear after wards, so I like to go a day without panties. I shave every couple of days. I've decided to try new hair removal methods. So far I really like the Nair bikini cream. I don't get alot of irritatoin from it and it lasts about 3 days, but believe it when it says not to get on the labia or vaginal areas it BURNS on that soft tissue.

i got laser hair removal. a lot less painful than waxing and cost effective over time.

Shave in the shower

And it is OK if I miss a few short hairs, but I really like the smooth feeling.

i work as a costume designer, with many clients beings exotic dancers the advice i hear given to the new dancers is......... shave daily, to get the skin use to it........and to use deoderant over the shaved area , use a good razor of course.........seems to do the trick!

I've tried both shaving and waxing, and honestly I preferred the waxing. No matter how good the razor, it was just never close enough. Besides, I didn't find the waxing hurt as much as some people told me it did, and there was something kind of erotic in the ritual ... every time you go in, there's the undressing, the lying down ... waiting for the woman to come in, the hot wax ...

At the place I went, they covered you with a little towel and moved it so you had some privacy. Honestly, I thought it was kind of silly ... they're going to see everything eventually. But I swear it was the smoothest I've ever been, and it lasted quite a while for me, usually at least a month. It depends on how fast your hair grows there, though. Oh, and I have no idea why, but I was always aroused for like a day after going to get waxed. Physically aroused, that is.

Anyway, my skin has its own world of problems, being more sensitive than most people can imagine, and even though I loved waxing I've stopped for a while right now and gone back to shaving to see if that's any better. I use a good razor, a good shaving gel, and take my time. Oh, and an "after waxing" product can make a world of difference. They're usually a liquid that you apply in small amounts to the waxed or shaved area after to prevent irritation and reduce the incidence of ingrown hairs. You can get pretty cheap ones in the average drug store, but some aren't really effective. I got mine from the place I got the waxing done at, and it was definitely worth the money. It wasn't even that expensive in the first place, I think. I bet you could find similar products for sale at most spas or places that do waxing.

The only downside to waxing, really, is that some people find it painful. (The ongoing joke with a bunch of my friends was that pulling the strip off really didn't hurt much more than stubbing a toe. Then one person pointed out that one doesn't usually stub one's toe forty times in a row) Well, that and you do have to let the hair come back in a bit to wax it off again. Most places recommend 1/8 to 1/4 " in length for the waxing to be effective. Still, if you need to be completely bare and smooth 24/7 for whatever reason, shaving is probably your better option.

Well, that's my two cents. Damn ... now I kind of want to go for a waxing again. :)

I'm curious about that.

I'm always trying to improve methods.

I do have this strange vision that someday I will be old and in a nursing home and WANT that hair again.

Something to try.

Cool and thanks!

(Lately I seem to cut myself down there a LOT. I don't know why.)

I prefer a shaved sub.....
I mean ...I already HAVE dental floss...Keep it in the cabinet.

And I am rather fond of shaving them myself...

So...

Oddly enough...try diaper rash ointment... Silly as it sounds..It IS made for skin irritation.

ANd I have acheived real success with an ointment called Aquaphor

Not sure I would be using deodorant after shaving as it is notorius for causing major irritation and rashes if applied after a fresh shave. Brrr, I only have to think of it and I start to itch!!

deodorant or more like antiperspirant on a cut or nic after shaving stops it from bleeding.

.

LOL, I'm not surprised but then your blimey head is split from hitting the ceiling when you jump with the pain. Not into those types of pain or the days of rashiness and allergic reaction that follow. Fortunately we both have similar allergies here so can relate to the minimal use of such things even when shaving is not an issue...thank goodness for a cool climate!! :D
