Something has been brought to my attention and after talking it over with those that I need to the question is being posed to all of the contestants in the contest.

Please vote in the poll and expand on why you voted the way that you did below this posting.

Thank you.

It just strikes me as incongruous that *any* story should be considered for multiple categories and earn points in both/all of them. I mean, how many times have you read something, or written something, and wondered why they didn't put it in blank as opposed to where it was sorted?

They don't list them in both, do they?

And, even if they do/did, I think it's better that the story gets put into one particular category. Perhaps, next year, the point structure would be set up on all even numbes of points...in which case I wouldn't have a problem with the option in the poll of splitting the points between them...although that opens the question of do they still only need "x" number of stories to finish those categories...

I guess to clarify....

Stories are being written and submitted to say the non-erotic category. Then that same story is being resubmitted by the same author under non-english.

What I need to know from the rest of the contestants if how they feel about this.

Stories should only count in one category, period. The story is the same regardless of whether it's in more than one language. It's not fair to be able to get points for the same story in more than one category.

I think they should count as two. You're still doing the work to change them over into whatever language it is, regardless of the fact that it is a previously published story.

To those who cannot read French, Spanish, German, Italian, etc., it is a new story and to those who cannot read English, it's a new story.

Hmmm I'm going with no they shouldn't count.

By your argument Velvet I could post an illustrated story which is new for the guys who read illustrated, I could then remove the picture and submit it in a diferent category. That then makes it a new story for guys that read that category.

No wait I am in favor of this I can put pictures and audio on everything and triple my points! :-]

No, it isn't a new story. It's just a story that's already been written translated into a different language. You aren't creating new characters or writing a new plot. I am fairly certain in previous years, the rule was a story could only count in ONE category.

I'm with Jo on this one. If people can count one story in a regular category and then non-english, then we should be able to do an audio (or illustrated) or any story of another category and make it count.

This is actually a moot point because it's covered in the original rules layed out by Muffy (I copied it over to here. Go look in the rules and registration thread if you want to see it in its original state). I'm bolding the part that applies the most.

9. Non-English stories: Submissions must be the original work of the entrant. Submissions that are translated versions of the original work by someone other than the entrant must have advance permission from the moderator to be eligible for the contest. Contact the moderator as directed below. English versions are not eligible for points.

So there you have it. If it's written in Non-English and scored for points, then you CANNOT count its English counterpart. That would work vice versa as well.

I would argue that it isn't fair.

It is the same story, and the author is basically getting extra points for being able to translate their work. While this could prove an advantage to those of us who are bilingual, it doesn't feel right.

I would argue that a story counts once, period.
