A question about the Foreman grill

My mom lent me her grill, but there were no directions on it. I sprayed some fat-free cooking spray on the grill and threw some chicken in. It came out good, but tough. I think I might have cooked it for too long, but they weren't in there long at all.

About how long do chicken breasts need to be cooked on it?

Boneless? Like 5 minutes I think.

That's it? Ok, I overcooked them- lol. Are you supposed to flip them at all?

No...you don't flip. And yes....about 5 minutes is all it takes! :D

Minx next time we get

together remind me. I am sure I have the directions some place and have no problems copying them for ya. This Wednesday some of us are considering the tree lighting. Ya wanna go? If so email or whatever.

Peace,
Tulip

I dont think mine is the actual Foreman grill - but it's the value version of that anyways. No, if the lid is closed it should cook both sides for you - but I find with mine, the grill marks are heavier on one side than the other, so sometimes I flip anyways just for fun.

If I dont know how long to cook for I just do it in intervals of 5 minutes, then check the colour of the meat in between. But I'm deadly in the kitchen so taking cooking advice from me is putting your life at risk.

I have one, but I can't figure the dang thing out, it has no temp control.

When I make salmon steaks, the outside is tough and blackened, but the inside is still slimy. :(

Thanks, Tulip- I'm getting one for Christmas, so I'll have directions for the new one.

As for the tree, I don't know if I want to go. I hate the crowds. I've actually taken my students on a class trip to see the tree, and it's awful. Anyway, I have class Wed. night.

______

Fat-free cooking on a Foreman Grill.

Interesting concept.

For boneless chicken breasts, the Foreman owner's manual says 5 minutes for rare, 7 minutes for medium and 9 minutes for well done. I think their times are a little long, likely for legal liability reasons. (Don't want to get sued if some little bugs don't get killed.)

Hey Minxy? There's about a zillion sites, but this one has some decent looking, basic recipes for the Foreman grill. I've never used one before, but the recipes for the marinated chicken breasts on this site recommend 4-5 minutes. http://members.aol.com/recipenook/georgeit.htm

In order to not have those tough outsides, place slices of mushrooms on top. The mushrooms get crisp, but your meat stays tender.

Ugh, I've never heard of a "rare" chicken breast. Undercooked chicken is like poultry jello, deeesgusting. I think you can do duck rare, because it's a darker meat, but you give me a rare chicken breast I'm a-sendin' it back.

Here's a tip--do NOT grill salmon on a Foreman grill. Came out absolutely delicious, but I couldn't get the fishy aroma and flavor out of the thing. I rinsed and I soaked and I scrubbed and I prayed, and six weeks later my hamburgers tasted faintly of the spawn. Blauggghhh.

Eeeeeeeeeeewwww......

What about tuna steaks?

The grill makes wonderful grilled cheese sandwiches and hamburgers.

I even throw hot dogs on there.

I have found that to me, chicken always come out dry.
