Recently I picked up a little Acer. (Acer Aspire 3620)

I love it. It seems fast and the hard drive is the same size as my desk top. I haven't run into any problems with it.

Anyone out there have any stories about their Acers? Horror stories or love stories?

Earlier in the year the boss bought a dozen Acers laptops to be used as data gathering computers. I'm not sure of the model... These things sit there and process raw data from the drilling righ 24/7 for weeks on end... Other than a lightening strike on a rig... there haven't been any problems that were not operator error....

I had bad experiences with Acer many years ago but they seem to have gotten their act together...

One rumour I heard was that Acer was making laptops for dell.

I am running an ACER Travelmate 4060 with xp pro, it runs smoothly and can keep up to my desktop (which I custom built for heavy usage.) I do wish it had a larger HD but a external has resolved that problem. I pack it work everyday and home again. It has been used as a portable dvd player, a web site builder, and has logged many hours of internet time. No problems.

I had a smaller ACER travelmate, can't remember the model, but one of the lower end ones, it ran fine but I outgrew it, sold it, then upgraded to this one and I love it.

I hadn't heard about Acer making laptops for Dell.

I'm not up to speed on all of the Laptops Acer makes but I do know which one I have. It's an Acer Aspire 3620.

Pretty identical to mine, but newer, so you have wireless and dvd dl drive. Performance is not all that stellar, it could use more memory, but the Celeron M processor gives bang for the buck.

I have no complaints. Slim design, low fan noise, and like I said, IMO the best keyboard design and construction on the market.

I don't know.

The hard drive is the same size as that on my desktop, and I have 512MB of Ram. (Much more than on my desktop.)

I agree about the keyboard design, although it did take me a bit to get used to not having a seperate numeric keypad.

I do like the Backup Utilities and will be making use of the wireless capabilities.

The Power System is nice. It adjusts power usage to what you are doing. I like that.

You are correct on the size and the quietness of the system. This one is a smaller one, the one with the 14 inch screen so it really is small. I can carry t without noticing it's weight in the softcase I got for it. (I want to get a custom hardcase for it but refuse to pay the price. If I ever do get one it will be by Pelian and cost a fortune.)

One thing that is nice is the scroll pad just below the touch pad. It's a bit stiff but I can work with that.
