Should we keep it as a sticky? For how long?

Should we allow it to drift to the bottom, secure in the knowledge that it'll always be there, raw material for our posts and a solid indication of where we came from?

Something else?

Please vote and tell us, the Mods, what to do with the Monster thread and we'll do it.

We can't read the collective mind, you know.
It's always all about communication with our kind, isn't it?
;)

I voted to let it fade but to keep it. I have read it often but felt a little odd contributing until I learned more. It would be nice to have it around as a reference. It is like the oed of bdsm. Large and unwieldy but when you need it you need it.

Hey!!! I voted other and it said nobody voted "other".
Does this make me a nobody?!?!?

I vote for permanent sticky. There is no reason I can see for not keeping the introduction thread up for all the serious SM fans who wander in here. Can anyone please tell me any valid reason for the obviously incredibly popular thread to cease being easily available at any time?

I keep remember how the Amateur picture feedback board did such an about face. There was nothing to guide anyone who was posting there and it is no longer any such thing for comments about the amateur pix posted as part of Lit. It now seems to be just a free-for-all "hey I think yer pussy is hot!" board.

Keeping the wealth of information available to all, always, couldn't possibly be a bad thing could it?

I voted to let it sink gracefully to the bottom. It can only be daunting to a newbie to enter this new place and see a sticky of 68 pages at the top. When i enter a new place, i look for sticky's or FAQ's to help me figure out my bearings. Can you imagine how someone would feel thinking the Monster was our FAQ thread here?

We don't want to lose it either. It's like that blanket you want when you're sick or hurting, the very best of comfort.

My suggestion is to put the previous sticky thread back at the top with the general, here's how we want things to be here. Include in that statement, the link to the Monster. It will be easily accessible without scaring anyone off.

Well, shit!

I voted for the sticky before reading MG 5's post. I like her idea.

I thought it should remain a sticky at least until we are done mining it. However, if there is an easy access link, that may be a better idea.

It is a rather daunting thread, which may explain why there have been so many posting in the forum who never did in the thread.

:)

I vote to keep it as a sticky for a while and then let it drift to the bottom of the pile...

I admit that I am having a hard time with this new system...

Monster or not, I miss coming home at night and seeing what everyone was saying...

It is my comfort zone...

We have 13 votes.
There are more of us than that.
Please offer your opinion on this matter; every single one of us has an opinion of value, as far as i am concerned, and one that i'm interested in hearing.

An interesting aside: why is it that only women and mostly subs have offered written opinions so far? My we have an intelligent and opinionated group of subbies here, don't we!

What was the reason for closing the thread in the first place?

Obviously, some people have a real affection for it, and would continue to post.

Publish it.

There is more comprehensive information in that thread
then there is in any published work I've read.

I voted to keep it sticky and then read MG5's idea. I like that - its kinda sticky but not really.

:rose:

Keep it sticky

I think the thread is a treasure trove of information, and having it at the top, where it is makes it easy to access is the best choice. Thanks to all for their work on getting this set up as a Forum.

So far mg5's idea has a slim majority of the votes.

MysCynthia? Please feel free to publish it if you can and know, please, that anyone who could whip that thing into publishable shape is some kinda Goddess/God in my book.
;)

I'm going to keep this poll up for one more day, guys, 24 hours, and then do something with the monster/mega/mother thread, okay?

Anyone have any feelings about the thread being unlocked versus kept locked? (The thread was, as cellis and others have said, a place of great comfort for many of us. Does anyone want it to continue to be open?)

Come on...

I love having the monster here in this forum, but i think it needs to remain closed. It's a big part of what we have here and we need to remember that, but i don't think it could remain as it once was if it were just another thread we were posting on now. It's uniqueness at the time cannot be maintained here. Let it be frozen as it was then.

Monday night when i felt as if i were falling apart, i went back and read some of it again. It was the sole comfort i could find and it did make me feel better.

We need the monster thread, but we need it the way it was, not the way i fear it would come to be here in our shiny new home. It's like your grandmother's handmade quilt. You don't leave it on your bed everyday. But it's there when you need to feel it's unique comfort.

Bump!

Prompted by T's thread concerning reading the monster thread, I thought bumping this for input from our newer members would be a good idea.

For me, I didn't realize so many would read the thread and had imagined referring people to specific posts as needed.

Maybe we do need to put some thought into breaking it down.
The thread was a gathering place, as if 50 people met for coffee and at times, the conversations digressed from one another, at other times it wsa like a brainstorming fete. It can be difficult to read through.

And as we as individiuals changed and grew in our Dominance or submission, so may have some our outlooks/responses?

Don't know...but , what should we do with it to make it more user friendly?

You don't need to do anything to the thread other than to make a reference to it in a Sticky. I fell across a post from Cymbidia that mentioned the URL of the thread. I've bookmarked it, since trying to find the blasted thing is a pain in the ass! A permanent sticky of the URL, not of the thread itself, would tell those who want to read it where to find it, but would not scare off those who fell into the forum for the first time. 135 pages is a lot of pages of posts to read and assimilate!

At the same time, I think that butchering it and making it "simpler to read" is a bad idea. Part of its charm was the personal, close feel of it. That more than anything made it worthwhile reading to me. It was gratifying to see messages from people who truly cared for one another, who took the time to comfort when it was needed, to congratulate when it was appropriate, and even to correct when an error was made. This personal interaction would be forever lost if the thread were dissected, and spread out over 100s of individual postings. Not to say that a new thread of "Tools of Correction - Whips and Flails 101" wouldn't fascinate, but it would lose the personal, one-on-one feel that the postings from SteamyChik had. (I miss her still!)

By all means, cut n' paste as many posts from the Original Thread to the Forum, but the O.T. should remain as it is; whole, sealed and easily accessible. Let it serve as a time capsule.

Just opinion, not direction.

Cheers, all!

i see great minds beginning to focus...

So apparently we're all just realizing that things are pretty good the way they are?

i first came across the Monster thru the Welcome, i STILL haven't mined all the goodness out of it.

i get thru a couple of posts then run across a URL that takes me miles away for an hour.It really is one of the best sources of information for a newbie there is. (i oughta know)

Besides the hard factual information, there is commentary and insight from people who've Lived the parts. Flashes of the humor and intelligence of the lifestylers. i like MysCynthia's idea of publishing it.

It would make a great little pamphlet for people embarking on the adventure, and a great gift for parents or friends of some just heading in that direction.

It could calm a lot of fears and promote a lot of understanding.

i voted to keep it as a sticky, but just the URL in the Welcome is fine. Worked for me! :D

Wow did it work!
