I am dedicating a poem to Guru ji for completing 1000 posts on here. Anyone who posts on this thread is requested not to quote the poem in his or her post. Thank you.

Thank you

Thank you all for taking note of my request.

Thank you again Guru ji.

One who can now die a happy man (well almost)

Thank you, Zhuk. The title of your poem made me smile, it also made me think a bit. On the most basic level this title is a tautology, and on the next level it is an oxymoron, then on the next... yes, it allows one to dwell on it (especially after one reads your poem), it is a paradox.

It is nice that after seemingly effortlessly getting nice recognition as a poet outside Literotica, you are still coming to this good ol' "Poetry Feedback and Discussion" forum. (I will always warmly remember how green you were when you showed up here at first--now it is your turn to be harsh about my stuff :)).

Thank you, Zhuk, for the poem.   (It is strange, even awkward, to see my pseudonick in a thread title).

Best regards, good luck to you,

Guru ji,

It is me who should thank you. This forum has given me a lot, it gave me you, my Guru, my poetry teacher. You are being very modest when you say I can be harsh on your work. I am not qualified for that and I have just started learning a bit.

Coming here and listening to you made me realise for the first time that we should aim for the top, our goals should always be set high and we should never be satisfied with mediocrity. Getting pats on the back from forums such as these and praising our friends and getting praised in return may be all right for 'feel good' factor, but that is a sure shot way to get stuck in the rut. We should strive to get recognition from people who count, from people who matter, from people who edit poetry journals. This is not to say that these people are smarter than us or smarter than those who participate on this forum, but that we should understand the concept of success, success that is verifiable, success that is attested to by top people. After all in the present world that we have created, only success matters. I am realising that now, quite late in my life. The trick is to stick with our principles AND be successful. And it is no use writing stuff that people are going to appreciate after we are dead. What good that is going to do to us? NOTHING!

I was all about 'I write for myself', 'I dont care what others think', 'I write to let off steam'. But now I realise that all this can be done and in addition we can get the satisfaction of success and recognition.

Had I not met you, I would have been very satisfied and happy getting praise for my writing from people here on this forum. But now while I am happy receiving praise, I am not satisfied, I yearn for higher praise, I yearn to be recognised as a poet, I yearn to be someone special. I may not succeed, in fact most probably I will fail, but I have set my goals.

I will not call myself a poet until and unless I get my longer versions of poem published in one of the very top poetry journals. This is a simple but rigid principle I am sticking to. My success with Haiku, while very satisfying, having been recognised by all the top journals, is not enough. I want more. Some people may say Haiku is not poetry, and therefore I am not a poet - fine - I will get poems of other forms published and then I can proudly tell everyone "I am a poet".

One more thing, I fully realise I would not have achieved even this limited success without learning from you and my Haiku mentor (you know who that person is).

Therefore I came back to this forum, to try and give back what I got here.

While I was writing this post I have changed my goals. Set them a bit higher.

1. Get poems published in top poetry journals
2. Get short short published in top literary journals.
3. Get a book published.

No harm in dreaming! :)

Your chela,

Zhuk
