The Galaxy's a rough place, and Captain Ren Navarone needs a new crew.

alright kiddies, in a galaxy far far away the Pan-Galactic Confederacy of Planets rules most everything, except what is owned by the Kreeyar Empire. fortunately both the PGC and the Empire are to busy fighting each other to pay too much attention to the citizens they claim to protect.

thats where you come in. Ill be playing the role of Captain Rengakus Sejisilic Navarone'naya'gall (Ren Navarone for humans), former owner-operator of the Cutlass-class light frigate Sword of Sakiyan and One-eye, an old warrior. After he and his band of merry pirates fought in defense of his homeworld Ogdru, while it was being attacked by the Kreeyar Empire AND the PGC(resulting in its virus bombing by the retreating Kreeyar) they were captured by semi-victorius (they won the battle, but the planet was now worthless) PGC forces, and pressed into "re-education camps." In their attempt to escape they were all killed, save ren, who was badly wounded, having lost an eye, a leg and a forearm. He was rescued by an old Jahad warrior, who took pity on his countryman and nursed him back to health, and then taught him to fight "in the old glorious way". Together they commandeered a warp capable PGC shuttle and escaped to Wildspace, a nebula that forms the rough boundary between the Empire and the PGC.

There they accessed Ren's accounts and bought a new ship, a Sabre-Class Destroyer they named Ogdru's Vengeance. Now, they need a crew.

alright now for the basic guidelines.

melee and ranged weapons are both still used. Many races still favor bladed weapons, finding them more honourable. Humans are the most common species in the Galaxy, Followed by Kreeyar. The Kreeyar are a reptilian warrior race, so think Lizards in battle armor with swords on their hips and pulse rifles in their hands. lol.

You can of course create your own alien race, there are millions of planets in this galaxy the majority of which support life. if you make a race, just post a description of their culture and physical attributes, the odds of me rejecting them are slim to none. Im not worried about balance too much, cause in the immortal words of Ahnuld "If it bleed we can kill it." So if you want your race to be far superior in strength and resilence to humans, feel free, cause if you get shot in the head your dead either way.

Captain Ren and One-eye are Jahad, a beastlike race, that look like a cross between Wolves and Lions. they are physicaly stronger, faster and tougher then humans, but not overwhelmingly so. the Jahad are now almost extinct, since the destruction of their homeworld when both the PGC and the Empire tried to conquer it at the same time. They posessed a warrior culture at one point but many younger ones, especially in the last three centuries since first contact with the PGC, fell away. They are long lived, living usually around 700 years unless killed in battle though many have lived to be almost 1000.

for your character sheets follow this format

Name:
Gender:
Race:
Job: (what youd do onboard the ship)
Specialties:(what your good at)
Equipment: (tools, weapons, armor etc.)
Physical Description:(height, weight, eye and hair color, distinguishing marks etc.)

hope people play! i will post bios for Captain Ren and One-eye soon

This sounds interesting, Renegade. I'll consider it and see if I can come up with anything. Of course, given my imagination, I'll probably end up borrowing an alien race from Star Wars or something. :D

Anyways, like I said, I'll give a character some thought.

Okay, I've given a character some thought, though I am far from ready to post him. What I do know is that his job will be Chief Security Officer, so I have first dibs on that (unless, one of your characters has it).

I'll put up a bio tomorrow.

now for Bio's
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Rengakus Sejisilic Navarone'naya'gall (Ren Navarone for humans) Age: 150
Gender:Male
Race: Jahad
Job: Captain
Specialties: Navigation, naval combat, marksmanship, swordsmanship, piracy
Equipment: twin custom Pulse blasters (his look like old fashioned pirate guns a la any pirate movie youve ever seen) Ksya dagger (traditional Jahad weapon and tool, used for everything one might use a knife for) and Phase Blade, sabre configuration (phase blades use a phased plasma field to coat a standard blade, allowing it to penetrate many forms of armor, as well as absorb or deflect low to moderate energy discharges his is shaped like a sabre)
Physical description: Ren is 6'8" and around 250 pounds. His left leg is bionic below the knee, his right arm is bionic below the elbow and incorporates a personal computer. His left eye is also bionic, all products of wounds recieved during his escape from a PGC prison camp. His fur is light blue and is hair is braided in traditional warrior style. He favours long coats, a frilled blouse, knee length breeches, and a tricorner hat with a large feather in it. (basically hes dressed like your stereotypical pirate captain, except hes a wolf/cat looking creature)
History: Ren was born on Ogdru, his father was a soldier and his mother was a barmaid. at age 100 he left Ogdru to find adventure. He learned how to sail the stars, and how to live the glamorous life of a Star Pirate. at age 130 he became captain of his own ship, the Sword of Sakiyan and began a merry romp across the galaxy where he learned of plans by the Kreeyar Empire to annex Ogdru. He and his crew rushed back,
just in time to lead the defense of his planet against not just the Kreeyar but also against the PGC who also had designs on Ogdru. The Jahad fought fiercely but were no match for either power. The PGC won the battle, but not before the Kreeyar virus bombed the planet for spite, turing into an uninhabitable rock, and killing thousands of Kreeyar, PGC, and Jahad soldiers, along with millions of Jahad civilians. Then at age 140, after the battle, his ship and crew were captured by the PGC, his ship was scuttled before his eyes and he and his crew placed into re-education camps. he later tried to escape alolng with his surviving crew, but they were all killed, save for him, who was critically wounded. He was tthen found by One-eye and nursed back to health then taught the ancient Jahad warriors ways by the venerable warrior. They then went to wildspace and accessed Ren's considerable wealth and bought a new ship, Ogdru's Vengeance and are now hiring a crew.

Name:One-Eye Age:850
Gender:Male
Race: Jahad
Job: Warrior/Ships Counselor
Specialties: Kayana (Jahadi Martial Art of which he a master), swordsmanship, staff fighting, he is also very very old, with several lifetimes of experience and acquired wisdom.
Equipment: Kaolun (Kaolun is a traditional Jahad fighting blade, think of a chinese broadsword, his is made of an ore found only on Ogdru, which produces a strange electromagnetic field, allowing it to penetrate armor, all of his weapons are made with this metal) Dakata (another traditional fighting blade, this one is more like a katana) and a Taigu (a special staff gifted to master warriors, a symbol of their fighting skill transcending the purely physical plane into that of the spiritual, it can deploy blades from it shaft.) and a Ksya dagger (all Jahad carry Ksya, it is gifted to males by their mother, and females by their father.)
Physical Description: One-eye is about 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds. His fur is snow white and his hair is braided in the one long braid of the Kayana master. He is missing one eye that he refuses to have replaced, saying that "my body cannot be replaced, why then should i replace pieces of it?" He usuall wears a long white robe with a green sash on which he hangs his Kaolun and Ksya, while his Dakata is held on his back. He goes everywhere with all his weapons and his Taigu in hand.
History: All that is known of one eye is that he was born on Ogdru and became a warrior monk devoted to the Blade-God Sakiyan. he later became master of the Sakiyan temple and for reasons unknown left Ogdru shortly after first contact with the PGC. he then found a wounded Ren, and nursed him to health, hearing Ren's name being called out by "the voice of Sakiyan." He will not say more, simply saying "There is mighty destiny for this Son of Sejis" (Sejis being the primogenitor of Ren's clan , the Sejisilic, who was supposedly an avatar of Sakiyan and the mightiest warrior to ever live) For his part Ren does not believe in the old gods, or that his ancestor was the mightiest warrior to ever live, to which One-eye attributes the "corrupted and honourless blasphemy of the Zarku" (zarku meaning cursed ones, in this case referring to the PGC and the Kreeyar)

Max

Name: Max (common tongue, actual name unpronounceable)
Gender: Male
Race: Basilisk
Job: Chief Security Officer
Specialties: assassination, hunting, infiltration, and of course, security
Equipment: None to speak off (yet)
Description: A 13ft long, charcoal black cobra, with a pair of medium gray stripes cutting across his yellow on black eyes w/ same color markings forming an intricate design on his head between the eyes. Can raise his body up to a height of 6ft; his body at its thickest is two feet wide. Weight: nearly a ton. Can extend a hood to two feet on either side of his head; hood has white markings on it. Hides a pair of arms in pockets along either side of his body; allows him to hold and manipulate objects while his body is raised up.

History: Basilisks are an ancient race, with many of their smaller kin found throughout the galaxy. Their ancestral home world has long since been forgotten. It takes hundreds of years for a Basilisk to mature and grow to the size of Max, who happens to be 700 years hold; he was still considered young for his species. Max is big enough that he sees most creatures that walk on two feet as prey, and in fact, two legged creatures are his primary diet. Of course, pay him enough (and provide someone else to eat), and Max will leave you alone. Basilisks are a rare and elusive creature, and it is even rarer to see one off-world; in fact, as far as Max knows, he is the only Basilisk moving amongst the stars. It doesn’t help that Basilisks are not social creatures, and Max is no exception; this trait makes it difficult for Max to work in a social environment. The story as to how and why Max came to move about the stars is unknown (not even Max is sure why).

The markings on a Basilisk identify both that particular Basilisk and what it can do. For instance, the intricate design on Max’s head allow other Basilisks to identify him by sight; it’s like wearing a name tag that only a certain group can decipher. The gray stripe in front of Max’s eyes identify him as an infiltrator, which means he has the ability to sneak into secure areas, both with himself and smaller “lesser” snakes that he controls; this also means he can take control of “lesser” snakes by charming them. How this is done, no one knows. The grey mark behind his eyes identifies Max as an assassin, which means that he is immune to a wide variety of toxins and other poisons; this also means that he can adjusted what type of poison he uses, ranging from a powerful, quick-acting neurotoxin to a simple knock-out drug. Since the two gray marks are inline with each other, his abilities as an assassin also transfer over to the “lesser” snakes he controls. The white marks on his hood identify Max as a hunter, which means that his scales are tougher than normal, serving as an equivalent medium-level armor, able to stop most blades and deflect range weapons that hit at certain angles.

How’s that Renegade?

sounds alright, you might wanna give him weapons though, Like all pirate captains Ren believes his crew should arm themselves

He's a giant cobra. He's got some hidden talent that is not common knowledge. Besides, how would he carry weapons when crawlling around on his belly?

Some how you got me interested. (I think it was the semi sudden twist of space pirate.)

I'm thinking I have an idea on what I want to do too. Let me just work out the spieces ligistics.

Also if possible I would like the first mate position.

So before I make my character which will be perhaps the oldest or youngest character posted, I'm going seek approval for the crazy ass race I came up with. I apologies in advance for my long winded nature, let me know of any changes I need to make for the race.

My goal was an inteligent cybernetic race with limited shape changing. And then a fleshed it out and got this.

You ever here about a person who kept getting promoted at work until they reached a point where they were completely useless, well that is essentially this race, except replace promotion with evolution and completely useless with surprisingly normal and you have the Suolt race.

First some history. The Suolt may very well be one of the first sentient races to pop into existence, unfortunately none of them have provided evidence for that claim, but they are reasonably sure it can be found on there home world, which may or may not still exist because none of the known Suolts can recall where it is/was. This has earned the race the honor of being the only sentient creatures to ever misplace their home world. But what is a Suolt, well at some point they were similar to humans... they think. After a time they discovered machinery, and eventually developed space flight, marvels in medicine, and machines so complex not even they are sure what they do. Well at the time this science was going on the universe was largely empty, so they had little need to be off world and kept to their home world occasionally sending machines into space to be misplaced and forgotten. During this period of staying at home two things happened that shaped their race. They increasingly relied on machines for everything and they needed larger brains to store their vast knowledge. At this point either threw a slow million year evolution or the crazy science only they would be foolish enough to unleash the modern Suolt came about. (Once more not even they know what happened.)

Your modern Suolt is pretty much one large brain like muscle wrapped around a mechanical skeleton. (The design of which varies from Suolt to Suolt.) The race is technically immortal, never dieing from old age. However each individual only lasts for 200 years or less. As early as 150 years of age the Suolt buds into two new members of the species each with its own personality scraped together from half the brain cells of their parents. On average they remember less then 1/3 of their parents knowledge. Over the years they have misplaced many important details, such the location of their home world and what all the junk they left around the universe is used for. Interestingly they all still understand how to make advanced cybernetic skeletons, which may be a function of instinct instead of memory. The race can also reproduce sexually, which produces similar children, but doesn't destroy the parents. A newborn Suolt grows to be on average the size of a human over 20 years.

Suolts are technically only one organ, which isn't enough to survive with. But they evolved they ability to shape their one organ into what is needed to survive. Which is pretty much a primitive digestive track and circulatory system. The specifics of this system are up to the individual and his or her needs, as a result the species is hard to mortally wound because redundant organs are common when a Suolt expects to need them. In addition to this a Suolt posses surprising power for their size, due to their cybernetic skeletons. Their intelligence and capacity of for learning is quite high, after all a Suolt is basically a giant brain.

Like most intelligent beings the Suolt race is full of character flaws. The most widespread of which is the fixation of their appearance, which is estimated to be found in some where between 99% to 100% of the population. A Suolt will build a skeleton to match the species it finds around them, so the vast majority are currently human shaped. They physically are a light blue grey color that in thin sheets is transparent, which obviously different from the color of other species, so they stain their outer layers colors to match, hair implants are also quite common. After all of this work they usually keep a look for a couple of weeks and decide they don’t like it and change things around again. A second flaw is lack of faith in hard copies of knowledge such as books and computers. The other common character flaw is a lack of common sense, and to much curiosity, which has made this relatively fast breeding species into a fairly rare sight.

Perhaps the greatest mystery of this race is how members of it came to be spread though out the galaxy. And like every good story involving the Suolt, they can’t remember why.

The basics of my character is an 18 year old female Suolt who looks like a female human, with the main job of repeating the captians orders to the crew, and saying the captian knows best.

An interesting alien race you have come up with, cats. A giant brain with a cybernetic body that regurgates what the captain says and is also a brown-noser. Very interesting. I wonder how long it would be before Max eats her? ;)

I was wondering that too. I guess the question is does he mind spitting back out the inorganic skeleton.

i like it cats, its original, and the galaxy is a big place. and if Max eats anybody else on the crew, or mutinizes, he can expect to get drilled between the eyes, quick, fast, and in a hurry.

andn yes cats you can be first mate.

With Max, he could spit that skeleton back out. And it's not likely he will eat any of the crew as long as the captain pays him enough (and provides someone else to eat). :D

I'm going to be doing a little bit of revising on Max later, so keep a sharp eye out for some new details.

Name: Genifur (Jennifer to humans)
Gender: Female
Race: Suolt
Age: 18
Job: First Mate
Specialties: She is highly skilled at the art of relaying messages and fallowing orders. Her fighting skills are coming around but average at best. Her main assets are her knowledge of machines and her ability to quickly adapt to new situations. She understands the workings of anatomy as well as any one who builds their own should. She also has some erotic skills she plans on never using again.

Equipment: Her skeleton is included with her physical description, but very useful none the less. Apart from that she carries a small computer and some basic tools for working on machines. A small Suolt makeup kit, which despite its name is the size of a grape fruit. A small phase dagger, a larger phase rapier, two ammo pouches, and two sabot pistols, (think single shot one handed shot guns,) her preferred round fires a small explosive rocket and she usually has one loaded in her left pistol at all times. She owns three different outfits, but would own more if she could afford it.

Physical Description: Standing straight up as she normally does she is a meager 5'3" and with out her skeleton weighs 100 lbs. The skeleton how ever adds another 115 pounds despite nicely fitting into what would be 120 pound human female. Her look has always been that of a human female but has otherwise varied greatly threw out her life, save from a small permanent mark of a "noble" house on the inside of her upper right thigh. She is currently sporting brown hair that stops 1/2 an inch above her shoulders, green eyes, and slightly tanned skin on a youthful, small busted human body. Her skeleton is an odd mix of scavenged materials all of which were pain staking cleaned before being incorporated into what was once a 50 lbs chassis made of over priced composite materials. While she has formed eyes out of her body she has also installed a camera she keeps concealed under her right shoulder, her left hand is bare and sticks out of her body but she hides it under a soft white glove, she is roughly 30% stronger with that hand which also includes a computer port incase she wishes to think at a separate machine. With out the glove the hand poses a strange sort of beauty not found else where on her body, all the materials seem to belong with each other and work in a symphony of plates and pistons that seem to slide on one and another with out friction.

Physiology: Her internal organs are symmetrical and redundant. She has two hearts, two lungs, and two filters for her digestive track which is otherwise very simple. Her Skeleton however isn't redundant. She controls it with a link at the spine between her shoulders, the mechanics of her left arm are more complex and a single camera is buried under her right shoulder, it is simpler for her to remove obscuring flesh and use this secret camera then it is to make a new eye, (a manner of minutes verses days).

History: Genifur was budded on a forest planet ruled by a crablike race. On this world one could come as a visitor and stay as a slave, and that is what happened to her mother about 25 years before Genifur was formed. She can't recall why her mother came to the world and no one ever told her, but she was essentially born a pleasure slave in the service of a "noble" house. Her mother before her served this role. At the same time she was born, so two was her brother who she imagines came into being as the result of her previous identities desire to do something, anything else. The houses lord wasn't stupid and had plenty of uses for a giant brain mechanic. Eventually her brother earned the name of budget and designed a crab like exoskeleton to better deal with his owners. She on the other hand inherited their mothers skeleton an over priced core designed to be very flexible and made of materials light enough one could move it with ease and yet durable enough to take a pounding, a rich persons toy really. This difference in lifestyle made her hate her brother immensely and he hated her back, after all that was his previous life as well even if he only recalled echoes and shades of memories.

By the age of ten she had stumbled on a way to short out her skeletons security device and made her escape. She managed to smuggle herself on a ship of rival house with the aid of the ships captain who then sold her to a mechanic. He fortunately was ignorant of the politics of these crab people and wasn't into humans. So she was put to work fixing all manner of machines and salvaging spare parts. During this time she slowly rebuilt her skeleton using salvaged parts no one cared about. It was a hard life, but she took pride in rebuilding her body and decided at least one part of her skeleton should show who she was, as she replaced parts of her skeleton she built her left hand from components she no longer needed else where in her skeleton. She views this as her quiet victory over the life she was born into. After about six years of this her owner died, and since he had no will she became the property of his bank. Once more in a stroke of luck the bank was started by abolitionists and she was suddenly free, thanks to the lawyer Rynver Shynylye Zheyn.

This third chapter was a two year long struggle for money. She had embrace her original occupation a handful of times and she isn't proud of it, and regrets taking the risk as all of her clients commented on her only permanent marking, the symbol of her original master. Eventually she turned to piracy and learned the basics as a ship mechanic. She left her previous crew after receiving a meager payout, and she now seeks the opportunity to advance in life.

looks alright to me, just be careful to remember that he is still a natural creature and as such can be harmed by anyone else, and If Max is going to be on a ship, hes going to have to settle for eating shipboard food, (or maybe a captive if hes been a good boy)

He only needs to feed about once every two weeks, so captives will do. ;)

And I know that he can be killed, hence why I didn't give him impentrable scales. As for deflecting ranged weapons, I'm going to say anything that hits at less than an 80 degree angle will get deflected, so a shot that hits at a 90 degree angle will punch through his scales, but the damage done will less than normal.

Im going to have to say 45 to deflect entirely, people have really powerful weapons. it would also depend on where hbe got hit, center of mass would be lot harder to deflect, being as its a large surface, where close to the edge of his body would be alot easier given the scales reflective nature. Im not saying center of mass would necessarily kill him, blowing off a large portion of scales would be logical.

Hey, I haven't really thought most of this thru entirely yet. I would mostly likely just go with the flow. 45 degrees to deflect entirely sounds good, between 46 and 80 do some damage (i.e. scratching, chipping, etc.), and between 81 and 90 do max damage (after reduction due to armor properties)

So, when you going to put up the IC?
