A personal question

I was just wondering, how do you go about writing your threads?

Me, personally, I tend to write the thread in note pad, let the "finished" thread sit a couple of days and come back and give it a final editing before copying it to CHYOO, but how do the rest of you do it? I'm curious.

I write everything in Word as I've got annoyed with the Chyoo timeout and so don't write stuff online. I check and read through my writing as i'm doing it as Word has a spellchecker, I do proof read it but obviously a few errors tend to get through. Usually once I've written a thread i'm pretty satisfied with it so I put it online as soon as I can.

I use WordPad, mostly because my computer isn't exactly robust and opening up Word just to type a simple text document eats up too much memory (and I hate Notepad). I type it, save it, post it, and then erase it once it's been approved. Usually the process of typing a thread takes me about ten minutes. I check spelling by eye.

On a couple of occasions when I have been typing threads at the same time the editor of the story in question is online, I've done as many as four or five in quick succession, following each one up as the previous is approved.

Since that doesn't happen often, I will occasionally write further threads on the assumption that the first will be approved, and save them until they are ready to post.

ditto...

Hello,
well I tend to do exactly the same as Deathofcards. But for me, I only write about one thread every week or two. So not very often at all. I usually know before hand which story I will write for. I keep a mental list of my favourites. I also tend to add to stories in which the editor has contributed to my stories in the past. Thread sharing, I call it. I use word, usually I take about 45 minutes to write a thread. While writing I surf the net, usually looking at porn and other things. Between surfing I write. A thread works itself out and some parts get re-written as I go. When it's done, I post it shortly after. Then I save all my threads to a disc. I actually just burned a CD of my work.

As well as saving my threads, I have a file titled "Editing". In it I save a copy of a thread somebody has written for me. Then I edit it and paste the final into the chyoo page. In the editing file I have files named after the writers. When I am done with the thread I just leave it, then when a new one by the same writer comes I save it over the older one.

Well enough about me!

As with everybody else...

I type it in WordPad, never ever online. I usually have plenty of half-finished threads lying around; sometimes, I end up finishing 3 or 4 of them back-to-back, or else I start 3 or 4 new ones so I don't post anything for a few days. I do a "wipe" every once in a while, going over everything I have posted and erasing what has been submitted/what I haven't touched in way too long/what I just don't feel inspired by anymore.

My motto is: no pressure. That's why I've never done the "a thread for a thread" routine and why I don't feel ashamed to let my stories sit idle for weeks.

In addition to writing in word I have found that the best thing is to keep a seperate word document for each story. At the bottom I keep an outline of where I see the story going over the next half dozen threads and this helps when I have been away from a story for a month or more. I write on a lot of different stories and the only way I can keep the various plot lines straight is to do it this way.

:D

I have one big file with most of my chyoo stuff in it. A lot of that is one of stuff I've written for a story I don't have too much intention of working on again, or at least anytime soon. I've got seperate files for my own stories and some stories I've written more for.

Now I have one file for each of my own Chyoo stories and one I use to draft threads for other stories, but it makes a nice archive to be able to look back and see where I've improved and where I need work yet.

I have a file of the few Chyoo threads I have written, and another file for the stories I start. I write everything out on word, usually with the thread I'm responding to open in another window.

Hmmmmm guess this makes me the odd man out...but I still tend to write them on the fly online...though I will cut and paste them to notepad before I post, incase I went over the time limit. Though I guess its working for me...I've been approved everytime...and get favorable ratings...but to each thier own :)
