Greetings and salutations ...

It is interesting where my mind goes when I think of putting a "profile" into words. By socialization and habit first thoughts run to the strictly biographical, the stuff of c.v.s and resumes. But like an afterburner kicking in on a supersonic interceptor other ideas quickly rush in drowning out all that went before. For your, the reader's, sake as well as mine I let that thunderous roar pass as well. Considering those first thoughts as memory allows for a balance and, hopefully, a cogent and comprehensible recital.

Important highlights:

- born forty-some years ago with both X and Y chromosones on the rough edge between prairie and megalopolis

- raised by parents who thought for themselves and expected their children to do so as well; even when that allowed both to reject much of what the parents held dear

- educated in political economy, mathematics and theology with side interests in early music, physics and astronomy

- trained in one of the classical professions in the midst of the prairie in a setting marvelously free of dogma and extremism

- joined in domestic partnership by a woman of intelligence and honesty; although we have lived a LDR for nearly ten years the trust, respect and attraction of nearly thirty years remain

- employed in my chosen field continuously for over twenty years in positions of increasing responsibility and visibilty

- joined by two astounding creations - children; both thriving in their mid-adolescence with intelligence, creativity, passion and honesty

- freed after much introspection and self-discovery to find a path that nurtures my creativity, my intellect, my passion and my desire; a path as a dominant male - a coach, a mentor, an instructor, an enforcer

- supported in all that I do by family, by friends, by colleagues and by people not yet met who pave the way with their bold behaviors and hoenst reactions to themselves and those around them

If you wish to hear the sharps and flats of my person imagine a reader, a sailer, a student, a disciplinarian, a swimmer, a bicyclist, a socialist realist, a theoretical pacifist, a practical defender, a singer to children, a poor trainer of dogs, a confident lover, a practiced journeyman of rope and leather, ball gags and floggers, a seeker, a humorist. Fair Celtic complexion, thinning hair, summer tan. I sleep and swim naked. I have travelled extensively on three of the six continents.

Why here? Why now? Because life without others is death. Because I have learned the very hard way to suppression of feelings and urges leads to pain - not so much to myself but to others surrounding me. I exist to be explored, probed, tested and challenged and to explore, probe, test and challenge those whom I meet. In that we honor our creation and we open the way to what may lie next.

Be well, find peace.

Spring flings ...

Update - 28 April 03 - Spring is springing forth throughout the Midwest. I however am in a dark cave awaiting someone to venture inside and to light the darkness and bring warmth to the chill air. The effort will be rewarded. :)

Summertime and the living is ... ???

It is a warm and muggy August evening and the sun is a hazy orange ball soon to dip below the Western horizon. Later another orange ball, this one small and cold to the eye, Mars, will rise from the East and add a special feel to the night. Is it better that we know that Mars looms so large and so bright because it is nearer to us than it has been in 60,000 years? Our ancestors could sit and look in awe and wonder, adding another layer of myth to their model of the known universe. Are our myths all that better or, be it heresy, all that better grounded in "fact?"

Professionally this was a good day. Many might say great. A long and difficult project was successfuly concluded and twenty one years of investment, creativity and hard work were made into gold. Alchemy without the smoke, without the cauldron, without the magic. Alchemical commerce exhalted above all things.

I am game to celebrate but am alone, sitting at a keyboard. But hey, if you are ijn Chicago and want to imbibe, inhale and carry-on in naked wonder into the wee hours give me a call!

For now it's back to my book.

Peace to one and to all.

Going, going .... gone!

In what seems to have been the Summer that never was I am taking myself away from the city for several days. It will be September when I return (ok, only the 2nd but still September :) ) and Summer will be fading into Fall, a great season for new beginnings and fresh awareness.

In that spirit may everyone have a safe and full extended weekend!

Peace.

One step forward, two steps ...

The cynic in me is screaming "what can you be thinking??? if the air were not so full of shit it would be no big deal" but at this moment, while the sun settles in the Western sky it is unbelievably gorgeous. Yes, it is suspended particulate matter and other such stuff but it could be all that and be ugly or nondescript yest it is not. What a sky to make love under!

Damn, no one else here ....

Peace from the City of Big Shoulders

Can you see Mars? Here in Carolina it has been cloudy for months, it seems like! I was able to see it on the 26th...it was spectacular...but not since.

I wonder what new twist to their myth would have been added...or what twist to ours.

Re: Re: Summertime and the living is ... ???

Mars has been a most welcome addition to the night sky. What I found intriguing was that, at least to my unaided eye, Mars seemed larger (and redder) in early August rather than at the closest point. However that is dithering over the details of what I beleive is a better viewing experience than the comet of several years back.

As for the myths I cannot summon the magination necessary to foretell where the story might have gone. I enjoy the modern life (living past 40 is GOOD!) but I lament the loss of the magically creative that seems to have left most of us. Some still have the gift and I am in awe of each of them (just as I am in awe of those who's memories allow for recollection of texts and events as in the days of the bards ... yes, the written language has given us much, but it has not been without a cost).

Perhaps they would have interpreted Mars' appearance as a harbinger of destruction moving purposefully across the night sky....reversing himself to smite one he's overlooked when he goes retrograde....then returning to his path, intent on his singleminded mission.

JupitersGirl, I truly admire the way you think. :)

I will do the rare thing and control myself by leaving politics out of this thread but there are definitely those about us who could be smitten with abandon!

Peace.

I recognize that it has been several millenia since Mars has been seen on this planet but being JupitersGirl and all do you know how we might entice him to come by in a rather more direct way than glowing in the night sky? The more I ponder things, the better supernatural intervention seems. It has been often said that the fear of god is a good thing and it would be even better if the god were not exactly the one they have been thinking of!

Maybe that explains my attraction to Mars!

Now, I admire the way you think, thorsteinveblen!

But beware what you ask for....

Things must on the right track if it is time to be warned of unintended consequences. However, should Mars humor us with his presence, I will get to studying temple building pronto!
