I've got two characters, and I have no idea what to do with them. The male is a regular guy in most ways, but he has anger control issues. When provoked, he goes crazy. Road rage, fights in bars, etc. He needs counseling, but he doesn't think he has a problem and refuses to go.

He meets a woman who is a little bit alternative. She has tattoos, piercings, listens to hardcore metal, etc. Most of it she hides during the daytime, but at night she's into the scene.

She's into rough sex. She likes to get fucked hard. Choking, slapping, biting--it's all good. If she doesn't have bruises, it wasn't that great.

The first time they hook up, it's ok but nothing special. A few more times and she's ready to move on. He's too nice, and isn't giving her what she wants. She tells him it's over, and he flies off the handle. He rage fucks her, and she loves it.

When it's over, he's spent. He looks at her, and she's bruised, her nose is bleeding, they both have scratches everywhere. She's satisfied. He's disgusted with what he did, while she had the time of her life.

So that's their relationship for a while. She can only get off if she pisses him off first, and he's disgusted with the thinks he does to her. Her friends try to convince her that she's self-destructive, but she's getting the best sex she ever had in her life. He feels sorry for her and is in love with her. She can't stand him unless they are fighting and fucking. They are toxic for one another, but different reasons, can't let go.

That sounds like a couple of relationships I know. Alcohol and hard drugs were involved in both. Neither ended well -- like, accidental-looking deaths. I'm afraid a mutually-abusive coupling leads to mutually-assured destruction IRL. But in LIT fantasyland, well, whatever...

It's definitely a tragedy. Maybe that's the angle-- the story is told by one of thE characters to a homicide detective. Or maybe told by a close friend and confidante The story unfolds as a downward spiral, with each character unable to escape the irresistible pull of the other
