We thought it might be kids and took a look outside. There was a small circular pattern of teeny feathers on the glass. Banded colors, downy, and when we touched them they blew away.
Then we looked over on the fence and saw this bird -

He sat for awhile, calmly, proudly. I had to find a picture online because he flew away when we tried to photograph him. Initially we thought it might be a hawk but with the pattern on his breast we think it's a peregrine. In Kansas???
The pickings are pretty good in our backyard if he decides to hang around. We feed birds, and have doves, pigeons, cardinals, bluejays, and any manner of tiny songbirds nibbling at our feeders.
He probably chased something into our back door - he hit hard. Then he sat for awhile and recovered. Pretty amazing.
And a very cool looking bird.

We have some fairly tall trees along the back fence. I suppose they aren't tall enough for a falcon to roost but they'd make decent hunting posts.
And yesterday 5 big fat squirrels were gobbling sunflower seed (they ran when a kitty hit the glass from the inside - lol).
At any rate, pickings would be pretty good around here.

There are some neighborhood strays who come by for an occasional snack but that's usually at night.
Hopefully there are enough other critters to feed the falcon.

Something (or someone) else would have to eat the pussies.
Eatin' squirrel don't have the same ring to it.![]()
