Okay so it was another warm one here today. 91° according to the thermometer in the shade of my patio. Even so I was busy. My wife wanted to make the outside of the place look nice. The first step was to head down to the local Home inprovement store and get some plants, potting soil and fertilizer. (My wife chose this morning for this because the store was having a one day sale.) We ended up needing a flatbed cart.

When we get home we unload the car and set the plants in a line in the shade. I look at this line and shake my head, it's going to be a job. I grab the shovels and a couple of buckets, remove my shirt and get to work.

First step is the empty flower bed at the end of the trailer. I've been working on this bed for a while, it was overgrown and loaded with roots. Now it is empty of roots, re-edged and has had some good topsoil dug into it. Five holes are dug and five minature Rose Bushes are planted under our bedroom windows. (Outrside two are red, inner two are yellow and the center one is white.) The holes are dug overly large and deep because each one is bottomed with Potting Soil, then the plant is braced with more potting soil. (A little trick I learned.)

A break for a glass of water and then it's over to the lightpole. Six Purple Shower plants are placed in the ground close to the light. Again these are bedded in with the Potting Soil.

More water and then it's to the other end of the trailer. Out in the yard here I start digging again. Three large holes this time. Into these are carefully planted an Orange Tree, a Tangelo Tree and a Ruby Red Grapefruit Tree. After bedding them in I went back to the first flower bed and grabbed the buckets I had filled with dirt from there. These were used to build up six in high berms around the root balls of the trees. (Helps keep water from running off.)

I'm almost done, I can see the end. I Fertilise the plants then water them. (By hand and with reclaimed water.) 10 buckets of water and I'm done with this. I'm hot, I'm sweaty and I'm filthy. I go inside for a quick shower then it's back to work.

Up on the roof of the shed I go. Now this isn't a large shed, maybe six feet by eight feet but it's sitting in the sun. I clean off the roof of all needles and dirt. As soon as it dries, about ten seconds after I'm done, back up I go with a bucket of sealer. The roof leaks and that's not a good thing as we have our washer and drier in there. I put down the first layer and allow it to dry as I change the oil in the bike. When it's dry I add another coat. All told I put three layers on. Now it's ready for the rainy season if it ever shows up.

While I was busy doing these things my wife had set up a steak to marinate in Garlic, Onion and Black Pepper. She was also busy inside doing some cleaning as well as doing the laundry.

Finally we are done and it's coming on time for dinner. After another shower I fire up the grill. Dinner is that nice thick marinated steak, Garlic Bread and Sweet Potatoe Patties. (Oh what a feast.)

So now we're kicking back. My wife is watching a program about the making of the Queen Mary and I'm sitting in front of the comp. sipping at some Tequila and relaxing in the breeze from a fan. (No I haven't turned on the A/C yet.)

So how was your day?

You and Jammies would get along fine, Cat. Does she love her plants.

My day was quiet. Only excitement was getting down on my knees to scrub the gunk (only word to describe it) that had collected under the cupboards and stove in the kitchen.

Been there done that.

Nexst week we will be starting on the cabinets. (Oh the joys.) One by one the cabinets will be emptied and the doors removed. The doors will be carried out to the patio where they will be cleaned then painted. The cabinets will be cleaned inside and out then completely repainted. Then the doors go back on and we will move to the next.

This will be done to all of the cabinets in the kitchen including the pantry. (A cabinet that is two feet wide and goes from floor to ceiling with seven shelves.)

Hey at least this will give us a chance to sort through everything in the cabinets.

My wife is also talking about our getting a Propane Hot Water Heater to replace our Electric one under the counter.

Also during next week I have two jobs lined up. One is a bit of plumbing in a mansion. Two jobs there. The first is to replace the under sink disposal and the other is to replace the collar gasket on one of their toilets. ($150.00) The other is to replace the nylon screens on a rather large Pool Enclosure. Roughly 30 panels. That should take me most of a day. (God I hate working off ladders.) That will be another $300.00 for my emergency fund.

Hey just because I only work three days a week at the Hospital doesn't mean I'm sitting on my ass the rest of the week.

I thought with all of the stuff that happens with the people at the hospital you would be full time there. I shudder now to think what would happen if you were. You certainly keep yourself busy! How's the tequila? You deserve it after the work you did today. :)

Did some political stuff at the PC, made food (well, put out salad makings and called, "Come and get it"), did more political stuff at the PC, then here I am.

I must be getting old!

Nope, only three days a week. (36 hours or three 12 hour days.) Saturday, Sunday and Monday every week. (I love working the weekends because the boss isn't there.) On the weekends I average 15+ patients.

I refuse to work more because I know what will happen. I see it with my co-workers, One of them needed some extra money so she pulled 5 days a week for two weeks. When she wanted to go back to her normal shifts she got all sorts of shit because she wasn't working the extra hours. On my floor if you work extra once they expect you to do so forever. If I worked as many hours as my boss would like me to I would be there six days a week.

The Tequila is great. Thanks for asking.

Have noticed something else at work...

1. The more you do out of your own generous nature, the more work is pushed off onto you. This will undoubtedly end up added to your list of job requirements that you will be expected to do every day from now til the end of time.

2. Also, the work to pay ratio is inversely proportional... the more you do, the less you get paid & the more a person gets paid the less they actually accomplish in a day.

3. Last, nothing beats a day off work. (Even if you have to be up on the roof scraping pine needles on a hot-as-hell kinda day after doing the entire neighborhood's roofs the other day, and planting a small forest ;) especially when it ends with tequila. lol)

You've noticed these thing as well huh?

Cat

Kinda hard not to notice when you have to deal with it everyday, huh? lol

Having diet mountain dew here... not quite the same as tequila... lol

Had a pisser of a day, and glad for it to be winding down. Prom corsage season is finally over and I couldn't be happier! Started the day way too early, took a 2 hour nap with hubby when he got home, and now re-energized. Probably won't be able to sleep tonight. Gonna be another early morning. sigh. Hate working every Saturday. Can't be avoided, it's in the nature of my job.
