"A party putting itself first before the country it is trying to govern."

Sadly, that is what we have in America, as well.

Democrats were told to put the good of the country before their own party.

The Democrats listened to their leaders, and backed down.

2019, and everything is much worse in America.
More horrible, than we could have ever imagined.

This is your moment, UK

Stand up for what is good for your country.

They lied to you.

They misled you.

They perverted and twisted everything, to get their way.

She told the Belfast audience: “I’d like to say you’re all right. This goes back much further than this week, but it goes much further than any of you have said it does. When the plans for the referendum were first announced, it goes back to David Cameron trying to negotiate in the EU.

“David Cameron made the referendum policy because he didn’t want to risk losing ten or 15 seats to UKIP. And look where it’s got us.

“This has always been because of the Tory party playing party politics with issues that are going to be huge generational changes for all of us.

“I’m sixteen years old. I didn’t get a say in Brexit and I won’t get a say in Brexit because there is not going to be a second referendum as things stand. But either way, what we have to face is this is not an issue of parties not coming together."

Whatever takes the shine off the Democratic Party, the GOP has it ten times worse.

Nude photos, scams, tax threats: FBI tweets out its Trump Organization file, leading to online free-for-all

FBI Records Vault, the “official FBI Records Management Division” account, tweeted out the bureau’s publicly available Trump Organization file.

Curious social-media denizens immediately started downloading the heavily redacted FBI file, which includes more than 30 years of investigative notes about the president’s private business. And, of course, they started tweeting about what they found in it.

https://www.oregonlive.com/politics...tion-file-leading-to-online-free-for-all.html

They were published on the FBI’s website four days after the special counsel, Robert Mueller, concluded his investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. According to William Barr, the US attorney general, Mueller did not establish that Trump aides were involved in a conspiracy with Russian operatives. Mueller’s report has not been released.

Attorney General Barr Faces Bipartisan Pressure To Make Mueller Report Public

Impeachment Just Got Less Likely And 6 Other Takeaways From The Barr Letter

More will likely have to be released for the Justice Department not to be viewed as partisan and political

Many of America's democratic institutions are facing stress tests. The president, for example, has criticized the judicial system ("Obama judges"), the intelligence community and FBI ("deep state") and, of course, the news media ("fake news").

And the response to the Barr letter shows more will likely have to be released if the Justice Department wants to be seen in a nonpartisan way like the military and law enforcement.

Democratic leaders Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer fired this shot:

"Given Mr. Barr's public record of bias against the Special Counsel's inquiry, he is not a neutral observer and is not in a position to make objective determinations about the report."

That's a reference to a 19-page memo Barr wrote nine months ago to top Justice Department officials, arguing against Mueller being able to demand answers on the obstruction part of Mueller's investigation. That became a flashpoint during Barr's confirmation hearings — and is back, right in the middle of making sense of Mueller's findings.

The controversial "red flag" bill aims to seize guns temporarily from people who are deemed to be a threat to themselves or others.

Bill would help reduce suicide

As a one-time state lawmaker who had an “A+” NRA rating and a former Republican candidate for governor, I’m strongly supportive of HB-1177 — a bill that would provide extreme risk protection orders to temporarily remove firearms for those in the midst of a crisis.

My perspective on this issue is personal. Our family was in constant fear of losing our eldest daughter to suicide nearly a decade ago. She was just a child of 17 years at the time. Today, she’s healthy and successful.

Our family took action and removed all the firearms in our home. However, today Colorado’s families, especially those who have adult family members living on their own, don’t have such capabilities to take preventive measures.

I challenge the members of this committee, especially my fellow Republicans, to find common ground and work together in a bipartisan manner to support a thoughtful, comprehensive bill that balances Second Amendment protections with desperate families coping with a loved one in the midst of a crisis.

Each member of this committee has an opportunity to make a real difference and reduce suicide in their community, help and protect law enforcement, and, most importantly, give hope to desperate families. Please act!

HB 19-1177

#NotAllRepublicans, Red Flag Edition

March 31, 2019

Amid all the acrimony directed at majority Democrats in the Colorado General Assembly over the passage of House Bill 19-1177, the bill to create Extreme Risk Protection Orders to temporarily remove firearms from people judged in court to be a threat to themselves or the public, it bears repeating that the legislation enjoys overwhelming public support in every poll that’s been conducted on the issue–including a 2018 poll in Colorado that found support for a “red flag” law north of 80%.

What happened to American Sanctuary Cities, that protected the legal rights of undocumented immigrants ?

Republicans have hijacked many words. Sanctuary is just the latest word on the list.

Now, Republicans want sanctuary cities for gun owners that do not obey gun laws.

In conservative Weld County, the word “sanctuary” has gotten a bad rap, but House Republicans Lori Saine, R-Firestone; Steve Humphrey, R-Greeley; and Perry Buck, R-Windsor; are encouraging Weld commissioners to declare Weld a “2nd Amendment Sanctuary County.”

The three lawmakers have sent the request on official Colorado House of Representatives letterhead.

Steve Humphrey

“As Representatives of the Colorado House, we want to offer our emphatic support for Weld County becoming a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County,” the letter reads in part.

The move comes in response to House Bill 19-1177, the extreme risk protection order bill that would allow law enforcement or others to seek the removal of firearms from individuals deemed to be at risk of harming themselves or others. That bill passed second reading in the House this past week, but still must officially pass out of the House before going to the Colorado Senate.

Under the current bill, a judge could require a person to go without firearms for up to 364 days, or longer should the petitioner establish clear and convincing evidence that the respondent is still a danger to themselves or others.

What happened to sanctuary cities that protected the rights of undocumented immigrants ?

Humphrey said he and his fellow representatives aren’t optimistic about how the bill will turn out, and wanted to do something to protect people’s rights.

“We just wanted to weigh in and encourage that,” Humphrey said. “We’re really concerned about the violation of people’s Constitutional rights.”

Arguments from conservatives, including Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams, who is cited in the letter, center on Constitutional questions:

* Does the law, which allows family members or law enforcement to initiate the order and then requires the respondent to prove innocence, violate due process?
* Is it Constitutional in terms of the 2nd Amendment?

“This bill, in my opinion, is an attack on firearms and firearm ownership under the disguise of trying to help people that may suffer from some sort of mental disturbance,” Reams wrote in a mid-February Facebook post about the measure.

https://www.greeleytribune.com/news...rs-move-to-protect-gun-rights-with-sanctuary/

Creating a gun rights sanctuary that defies state legislation might lead to litigation, Baxter said. It was noted that the county resolution does not involve the Cortez Police Department or the Mancos Marshal.

Commissioner Larry Don Suckla said based on majority public comment in support of keeping additional gun laws out of the county, he supports passing a gun sanctuary resolution.

“I can’t vote for this unless the word sanctuary is added in. I don’t want to do this half-assed,” he said. “If the sheriff feels it is not appropriate, he can take his name off.”

Carolyn Landis said the HB 1177 bill is still being developed and urged the commissioners to not give up on the legislative process to draft a law that more people may support.

The Colorado House Judiciary Committee approved the bill last week on a party-line vote of 7-4. On Wednesday it passed out of House Appropriations, also on a party-line vote of 7-4. The bill will now be read before the full House, then voted on. The Senate will then take up the bill.

Burien Residents, Immigrant Rights Activists Win Temporary Restraining Order Against Sanctuary Repeal

By August, the Burien City Council had voted to put the repeal initiative on the November ballot. The vote came amid a series of local elections characterized by Trump-style politics, including fear-mongering rhetoric about immigrant residents, and rising anxiety within those targeted groups. Respect Washington, the organization behind the initiative, is primarily funded by US Inc., an anti-immigrant group that publishes white nationalist literature, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Group that sent mailer targeting immigrants in Burien is mostly funded by out-of-staters

November 3, 2017

The Seattle Times asked how many of the people listed were undocumented, Keller said maybe half, based on his research. He also acknowledged that addresses may be outdated or inaccurate and that some of the people haven’t been convicted of the crimes he lists, including murder and rape.

While Respect Washington used a montage of Seattle Times stories in its letter to Burien residents, the newspaper doesn’t support the organization or typically list the addresses of accused in stories.

Keller, who started the committee a decade ago, said that since the election of President Trump, people are emboldened to voice their frustrations with immigration policies.

When asked if the letter and map were ethnically motivated, Keller, a West Seattle resident who twice unsuccessfully ran for Congress as a Republican, said “hogwash,” and that he has no regrets creating them.

All of this has a familiar ring to it. Person outside of the community ith out of state ties to Far Right Extremist organisations and funding.

Portland police sent hundreds of officers in riot gear to the rally, and for most of the day they kept Patriot Prayer, led by Republican US Senate candidate Joey Gibson, and an affiliated group, Proud Boys, separated from their opposition.

Patriot Prayer’s stated beliefs are not neo-Nazi or white supremacist, but his critics say the group’s events have attracted white supremacist elements and have frequently brought serious violence to cities around the US West.

Patriot Prayer had bused in supporters from Vancouver, a town over the Columbia river from Portland in Washington state where Gibson is based. A planned rendezvous in a shopping mall in the town was moved after security guards told early arrivals they were trespassing, and a tow truck stood by waiting to take away offending cars.

Saturday’s rally was, in part, billed as a campaign event for Gibson’s bid to become a senator for Washington.

Republican candidate charged with assault after 'body-slamming' Guardian reporter

Audio of Greg Gianforte attacking Ben Jacobs corroborated by Fox News journalists in the room, who described candidate ‘slamming him to the ground’

Levinson told the Guardian by phone that before the incident, she overheard Gianforte’s staff telling Jacobs that the campaign was upset with the Guardian’s previous reporting and that the candidate would likely not have time to talk to him. Jacobs then entered the side room to try to talk to Gianforte, whose campaign has been backed by robocalls to voters from Trump and his vice-president, Mike Pence.

On Tuesday, the Guardian published the latest episode of its video series Anywhere but Washington about the Montana special election. The video includes two instances when Gianforte refused to be interviewed by reporter Paul Lewis. Video producer Adithya Sambamurthy said Wednesday that he and Lewis had been “blindsided” by the candidate’s unwillingness to answer questions, because they had been in contact with the campaign spokesman prior to their trip. Gianforte eventually agreed to speak with the Guardian for the video.
