Have you discovered the Feedback Portal yet? It is on the main page, just below the "New Stories" clicker.
It contains the latest Public Comments and also the stats of what is the most commented upon and who has made the most comments.

For once the Poets of Lit. are in the lead! :)

hahahaha, the most often made comments looks like a list of who's who of Lit poets...damn, you folks rock :D

I'm highly amused by someone going through the trouble of starting a thread and posting a link to say they think someone else needs to 'get a life'. :D

I didn't read through to see if anyone pointed it out to him, but I hope someone did.

Please, my dear, Hann's has been torturing Lit with his existance for far too long for anyone to take him seriously. That poets actually respond to poetry is something to be proud of, whereas anyone responding to Hann's has little to be proud of. Then again, I imagine Hann's see that differently. But since I don't give a rat's ass what Hann's think and your feedback is highly welcomed, I won't care what Hann's thinks. I suggest you do likewise.

just ignore that one. Sounds and looks like that is a pretty sick cookie...

I congratulate you on your comment proclivity. It shows a dedication to poetry, fellow poets and this site. You're a very good poet too...

Thank you all, I am familiar with Hanns and didn't take his thread as it was meant - to insult me - but I bumped it because he's - inadvertently - drawing attention both to the Feedback Portal aswell as the Poetry Forum.

Thanks Jim - you're no slouch yourself. :D

that is impressive. Poets hold the top nine positions, then 11-15 or so, and then like 17 -20... I have seen the story folks complaining about no feedback, now I see why.

scroll down to readers making comments...

Jim, how many of our poets read a lot of the erotic stories? I scan the new list almost everyday, but most days I don't even read a single story. On the other hand there are far more story readers than there are poetry fans. I wonder what the ratio of votes, feedback, or PC to views is for various categories of stories and poems. I wonder how many hits the average story gets. I bet they get a lot more than the average poem.
{THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR SUPER SENNA!} :)

Seriously, the support that we give each other is what keeps a lot of folks writing. We certainly don't get much support from the average "adult story" readers who keep this site profitable for the owners. I think this time they started a new board without thoroughly thinking it through. - Look for the new board to be further divided into story and poetry sections, or to become for stories only. ;)

I look to the public comments now as my primary source of feedback, and would personally have no problem with them serving in lieu of new poem reviews.

As for our friend Tess, her record as a poet and supporter of this forum is well known. I am glad she's here, and always grateful for her comments and advice. :) :rose:

I second about Tess, and stopping daily poem reviews would make my life a lot easier; but if there were no reviews then some people would not find certain poems. Not everyone reads every poem every day. I know some people have found my poems because of reviews, and I know that my hit rate is lower if a poem is published on a day when no review is made. :)

What is obviuos is that thanks to all of you and your hard work at commenting, reading and writing, poems gat a vote and comment ratio monumentally higher than the stories. There's one explanation to that, I guess. A poem is much easier to read then a story. At least faster, and you get to the end pretty quickly. :) I'm guessing that many of the views on a story is of the "Check out, scan the first paragraphs, dismiss" kind.

People who reads the stories for more than just the spanking of their collective monkey are the ones that tends to give feedback and vore for stories too. And then there is the length issue, while I can read 50 poems in one day and comment on a handful that I find something to say about, I can at the same time only read one or two stories. And often I don't have anything interresting to say about them.

Hey, I just saw it! It's cool that the poets are the ones really giving a lot of support and feedback. And since we're all so competitive, this may encourage many of us to up our feedback total. lol

I'm going to go comment now. :D

I left a comment on that thread. I expressed my delight in the fact that you don't have a life. lol:p

I agree Ange. I was thinking along the same lines, but didn't say anything. I thought some poets may really look forward to the reviews. But I personally prefer the PCs. Maybe we can just mention a new poem if it really gets our attention. No review day, just whenever anyone feels like it.

Okay, I just went on a commenting binge. I'm exhausted and content. This may be harder work than doing the reviews, but it's more satisfying. :)
So... does this mean I don't have to do my review thingy on tues? I hate doing reviews! lol Besides, I'll be in the hospital part of the day tues and probably won't be able to do it anyway.

Thanks Rybka

This is a cool link I didn't know about. My time on the poetry
page has gotten out of control. I didn't realize I had a
monkey on my back. There is a lot of computer stuff I
don't understand about literotica and everyday I learn a little more.
I love reading all the poems, except they wake me up to
the fact I'm not as good as I thought. The number of good
and great poems some of you throw out really amazes me.
See ya, sandspike

We all try to be good at this poetry thing, and we all need to improve. I find that as soon as I start getting impressed with my poems, I write real crap. :D

I try to stay focused on specific ways to improve--am I being precise, too wordy, is the image I'm using right for what I want to say? Am I formatting my poem to its best advantage? I ask myself these questions over and over to the point where it's all but subconscious. :)

And you take are of yourself tomorrow, missy (lol, I love saying that "missy"--it really pisses my daughter off if I say it to her). Poets if you see a poem you really love and want to recommend tomorrow, do so in the new poems thread. I think a day off once every three years--even for a very wicked poet--is fair. :D

waah :(

I like the daily reviews!

I am not sure I would have stayed without having been mentioned after I posted unnoticed for a week or so.

I am worried that we will lose new people if we don't have the review. PC's are awesome, and valuable, but let me tell you, it was not until Perks mentioned me in the review that people actually started clicking on annaswirls poems and leaving PC's. I think Tess was the first one, thank GOD she lives a poets life.

I also would not have been turned on to great poets if it werent for those reviews. Coming in it is impossible to tell, often the best ones do not get H's or on the top list. When I was newly new here, I counted on it.

I would be more than happy to take over a day if people need a break from it. I know Echo's would do it too, I bet we could get someone else to take over a day if someone needs to retire (gold watch?) or take a vacation (no cruises)

I...

...agree with annaswirls. I think the better way to boost poetry is to encourage new poets by posting and discussing their poems here on the forum. Public comments can be used to guide them to the threads where their poetry is being discussed. The discussion should be gentle but objective, encouraging but honest.

And the most important - when poetry is being discussed or critiqued we should concentrate on the poem and not who wrote it. We will be helpful only when we close our mind to the poet and shine our light on the written words.

Zhuk

ps: I am thinking of writing a two-part article on "How to write poetry". :) It does not contain the usual stuff but it is in a way a "How I did it".

We've had a bumper crop of poets around here lately, so let's spread this review thing around. Some of you newbies can take over for awhile and give the oldies a break. (I'm not old! But Rybka and Angeline are. :) )

I admit to being crochety and three score plus, but that is not old in fish years! :p
I would be happy to give up a Sunday now and then if some newer poets would like to try their hands at telling the rest of us what they really liked among a day's new poems.

The current list of reviewers is:
Sun: Rybka
Mon: jthserra
Tue: Wicked Eve
Wed: destinie21
Thu: Cordelia
Fri: Icingsugar
Sat: Lauren Hynde
I don't think anyone of the reviewers would object to taking a break now and then.
I'll even start: Does anyone want to review this coming Sunday, Feb. 22,'04 ?

I will still continue to mention exceptional poems on any day I find them, especially those by newer poets, and I will do my share of Sundays if no one wants them.

I believe that mentioning new poems in the daily new poem thread is one of the better things that we do on this forum for many of the reasons already stated, and I also think it would be a very good thing for our newer readers/contributors to stretch their poetic wings and begin to analyze why they like one poem more than another. - Remember, reading poetry is just as important for growing your ability as writing is. So it is about time for some of you to tell this old fishfart what you have learned from reading the poems and the reviews here at Lit.
If you don't want to do a complete day right off, then just bring a poem you like to our attention on any day you find one.

Come on! - Join in! - Jump in! The water is fine. :)

Regards, Rybka

Well you're middle-aged and I'm old, but Rybka is ancient. :D

And I do enjoy reading new poem reviews--in a way it feels like family gathering around the kitchen table. But new poem reviews are alot of work. I did them every week for over a year, and only stopped because they were cutting into my own writing time.

Others need to pick up the slack though--if you like new poem reviews and feel you benefit from them, give back and write some yourself. :)

Ignore the Fish. Take Tuesday! Tuesday is up for grabs. I NEED a break! I need many things, actually. Does anyone want to give me anything? No warts, please. I'll take diamonds, tranquilizers, dark red nail polish, an enormous box of AA batteries.
