A new pyramid was discovered in Egypt

I think we can arrange that

Hey, do you think I could get my very own pyramid when I die?

Well, there is already a pyramid in my pants for you, so I imagine so! lol :p j/k

Thanks for sharing that, I love egyptian stuff. Have you ever gone on a virtual tour of Egypt on line?

while I wait for the page to load.

I have to ask how do you just now find a pyramid, I mean they are not the smallest structures on the planet.

I mena to say its not like a bug or something that you would just happen to miss by accident.

**MARKSGIRL**

Is that really possible. How? I'd love to know about an online virtual tour.
I like ready about archeology and artifacts.

The uncovering of an Eygptian pyramid is certainly major news. Kudos to Frimost.

I have taken archeology and history courses at my college

First of all, you are assuming that the pyramid is completely intact, it is probably not.

Second of all you are wrongly assuming it is gigantic like the Pyramid at Giza, it is not.

Third of all (connected to my first point) you are assuming it is made of lime-stone, maybe it is, maybe only part of it is. Most of all the early pyramids were made of mud-brick not stone. That is why there is little to nothing remaining of them.

Fourth, You do not understand the Great Sahara desert, its shifting sands move MOUNTAINS of sand. It can literally bury ANYTHING. Some of those mounds of sand formed by the winds are HUNDREDS of feet deep.

Fifth, it was a LONG time ago so gradual sedimentation and sand will bury anything ancient like a pyramid even discounting the great shifting sands of the storms there.

I also imagine it could sink or disolve somewhat if it were built in the floodplain.

Another thing about ruins- sometimes people utilize a stack of perfectly good bricks or building stones after a few centuries or millenia, even just to make a roadbed.

Here in North America, native burial mounds, which serve the same purpose as pyramids, pass for hills. Trees grow on them.

Don't feel bad, Todd. That was my first reaction, too, and I've even traveled antiquity(although not Egypt) & have friends who are archaeoligists.

It's like a calico cat on the prowl, you can look at it, and see it in part, but you don't see enough to recognize the silhouette, so you don't identify it for what it is.

As for finding stuff, lots of times it's when construction cuts through the site, or a river changes course, or recently, they've identified a lot of stuff with sattelite & space shuttle telemetry-
like ancient caravan routes in the tractless sahara because the packed soil radiates heat differently.

Our earth is such a fascinating place. New things all the time. New things to learn and discover - especially the new technologies that allow it.

I want to go to space...

I want my pyramid to be built on the planent mars...

and for it to be a quarter of the size of Olympus Mons...my burial home will also have the worlds largest amusement park and shopping mall....get crackin people...you've got work to do...
