Hi Authors

I am new to this and want a pen name for my scripts which I will turn in to a short film.

I have a name which I like and is along similer names to others in the porn industry like Ben Dover, Phil Macavity etc.

Does anyone know how I can check no one is using the name and protect it before I release my first work of art?

Also, is once I get a picture of the "action" does anyone know any good graphics people that could do me a good DVD cover?

Thanks

Yup, Google the name. I'd be interested to know what hits it returns (my mind is boggling as to what the name might be!). ;)

As for the DVD cover, again, Google for graphic designers?

Or, you could ask some people here - I'm sure their rates would be very reasonable. Have you seen the poll for the AH Anthology cover? ;)

May I suggest that "Dee Pass" doesn't turn up any obvious porn links, though it does link to motorcycles for who knows what reason.

Thanks for the Google suggestions. I know people on forums forget to search but sadly searching for "porn" on Google is not really an option as it would take some time to go through the 45 million sites.

Sadly Google is not the answer for everything and with my few posts here I do not wish to tell other writer how to post but Google cannot do everything.

The sort of answer I was looking for was something like "there is a list of names at www.somebloodyobscuresitenamethatnoonehasheardof.com" so if you come across it please let me know.

I have <sarcasm>"Googled"</sarcams> for the name and found nothing even with 4 spelling variations but then that just means the <sarcasm>omnipotent</sarcasm> Google doesn't know either.

So please people, if someone asks for the web address for Hotmail send them to Google but otherwise let's embrace our penchant for dialogue on this forum as us authors do so well in the erotic library of our readers minds.

As for graphic designers I didn't think your average back street designer would have had much experience in this market so I thought someone here may have had book covers done in the past and could recommend there services.

I'm sorry, I was honestly trying to be helpful.

Very helpful, in fact, particularly in regard to the graphic design. Never mind.

Also, I used to use my real name for my "serious" writing, but for a reason which I won't go into now, I had to take a pen name. I Googled it, to find out if any other authors go by that name (and yes, the omnipotent Google would have to know about it - which, let's face it, they probably do, with regular bot sweeps of sites like Amazon, etc, etc), and it didn't return anything obvious, so I went with it.

I honestly don't know of any sites that list such "porn" names.

Lou

P.S. You might like to narrow down your search a bit. ;)

See this thread. If you like what I did (especially "Tatelou (2)") drop me a PM. ;)

You could also do a search on the IMDb they may not have all the credits for every porn film ever made, but they have all the major ones, which would at least let you know if the name you want to use is well known.

Hi Leatherandtoys,

google isn't enough

Try also using yahoo and other search engines with your name in quotes and words like adult, xxx, etc.

Pen names fall into a different category than actor names. If an actor is registered with the actors guild, no two names can be spelled the same way.
But if your writing as john smith, there could be a dozen john smith's out there.

You can register your name as a DBA - doing business as. And remember, its not the name your using for any legal documents. When you submit your script, you get paid and do all the signing with your real name. If you don't want that name to be known, get a double DBA.

Set up a business using a fictious name.
Register your pen name as a fictious name of the business.

For lists of pornographic actors and actresses use the lists on this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornographic_actors

To your success,

Ruby

I use dogpile.com which combines a number of search engines, including Google.
