Her emerald eyes stared unblinking, looking out across the open field. The weeded grasses of the field blowing in the evening breeze, the crie3s of the birds reaching her sensitive ears. Her long red hair twisted around her body, her hands resting atop the rounded bump of her belly. The slight movement under her hands caused her to blink as she softly began to coo and rub gently.

She sighed finally and with one more look around her new home, she turned and went back inside. Her hand hitting the security alarm button before shutting and locking the door. The urge to dash back outside and run with the wind crossed her mind once more. She knew until her babe was born she could not give into the instinct to shift. She was a shifter running from the one man who could take all that she had and crush it under his foot.

She moved her small frame to the couch and curled up on it as best as she could. Her mind wandering back to the time and lace that had sent her on the run. Fearing for her child more than her own life, she had ran from the rich life of Upper New York for the quiet isolated life here in Colorado. Her new home sitting on hundreds of acres of woodlands, perfect to raise her child and be herself when she chose.

Her eyes drifted shut as she let her mind and body drift into a zenlike state. Curbing her urges to shift. The familiar dream began almost immediately.

"You will not take this child,he is the future of our clan. He will be the rightful heir,he will lead us one day!" Bastian Romanov screamed at her. Foam literally flying from his mouth. Her gold eyes flashing and the deep growl hissed from his throat as he advanced on her.

Nadia shrank back slightly, her hands protecting her babe. Her own green eyes flashed as she felt her canines descend slightly. "My child will never be apart of your lives. You will never be a grandfather to him. Mikhail would never allow it."She threw back into Bastain's face as he stood before her, towering over her.

The hand that connected to her jaw almost sun her around, she tasted the coppery blood that filled her mouth. Bastian shook in his rage at his missing son's wife. "Mikhail is gone, almost surely dead. It falls to me to raise his son." He growled at her as he looked to the man standing by the door. "Take her to her rooms, she is not to leave until the babe is born." he thundered as he turned his back to her.

Nadia shook in fear and anger as she controlled her primal urges, her hands balled into fists, she could feel her claws driving into her palms as she felt his goon take her by the arm."You will never raise this child, son or daughter. I will see to that." SHe hissed back at him as she was led out of the room. She had escaed with the help of another female member of the clan and now she was here.

Nadia jerked upright as the hairs on her neck stood up,her ears straining for the sound that had awoken her. Several long minutes she sat there, finally sliding from the couch she padded barefoot to the back door, looking out over the yard. Shadows from the trees making it had to tell them from something else. "Mikhail..I wish you would return to us. I dont think I can fight them alone." She whisered out into the darkness. Knowing that her in-laws would never give up their search. She had the main key to making their family the strongest around, along with information of their shady pasts and dealings.

((looking for one guy to write with me..can either be the real Mikhail or his twin Nadia knew nothing about..brought in by his father to take the baby but over time falling in love with her and the child. send me an IM if interested and we will go from there. lease post at least one paragrah..no one liners or chat speak.))

Brian always knew that he had to work harder at life to get ahead. It was a disadvantage of knowing you were adopted. One felt like they had to work extra hard to prove that they were worthy of love. Worthy of having parents. For Brian he earned that love in spades. He got perfect grades in school, perfect grades in college, and now as a doctor he had perfect records there.

His adopted parents had been in their fifties when they adopted him at six years old. Two years after he graduated medical school with honors both of his parents passed away. Still he could never get over the need to over achieve.

Now he lived a quiet life in Burmingham Colorado as the head physician of Burmingham Hospital. It was a comfy life, good pay, good house. The nurses all hit on him because they all believed that the only thing he needed in his life now was a wife and kids. Part of Brian wanted that, wanted to settle down and have a family. But something was wrong with him, he feared, he was never attracted to anyone. Sure there were women that he found beautiful, but never any that he wanted to, for lack of a better term, fuck.

HE'd had his flings in college, of course, banging out his wild oats or whatever, but now he was a mature man and he needed something special.

One day he was sitting in his office filling out some paper work when his phone rang. "Doctor Shaw," he answered.

"My wife needs you Brian."

Brian paused and looked up. "Who is this?"

"Not important. The only thing that matters is her. I cannot be there for Nadia anymore, now she needs you my brother. Help her." Then the voice rattled off an address.

"Sir if this is a medical emergency, you need to call 911."

"ONLY YOU CAN HELP HER. Listen to me, her safety falls on you doctor."

Then the line went dead.

Brian sat looking at the phone for a long time. It must have been the call of a madman or something. Then his gaze dropped the the address he had jotted down, and chewed his lower lip.

So Brian stood outside a farmhouse, behind which lay the open Colorado wilderness. HE was nervous for the first time in his career, not because he was out here on some strange call. But because he had never walked upon a piece of land and instantly felt at home. Something clicked within him about this place, something made him feel whole.

Taking a deep breath he walked up the front steps and knocked on the door, his grip tensing on his bag. "Hello, somebody called for a doctor?" He called, when a few minutes went by without response.

Nadia moved around the kitchen, she had remained up the rest of the night, seeing things in the shadows. Her hair was tangled about her shoulders, her body wearing a long nightshirt, her feet bare. She stopped as her ears picked up the sound of a car pulling down the long lane. She stood motionless as the car neared and then stopped.

She moved to the door and peered from behind the curtains, the man she saw could have been a dream. Her heart hammered as she watched him looking around. Was it? Could it be? She reached for the door knob then stopped. She sniffed the air,her hair standing on end. Through an open window came the scent but not the scent of her husband. She frowned.

This was not Mikhail, but yet could be his clone. Mikhail didnt have a twin,at least she didnt think so. She heard him call out,his voice sounding as confused as she was becoming. She finally took a deep breath and stepped out onto the porch. "You must have the wrong house..."She took a deep breath trying to get beyond the uncanny resemblance to her missing husband. "I have my own doctor. "She said softly not realising her hand went over her belly, sheltering the babe that rested there. Her eyes never leaving the stranger standing before her.

Brian blinked at the woman who opened the door. His heart swelled uncontrollably for her. Something about her, he didn't know what it was or why, struck that chord deep inside of him that many woman had actively tried to strike. She was unique and there was nothing that could convince him any different. He thought back to that mysterious phone call he had received. Could the caller had known that this woman would have such an effect on him?

He smiled at her, trying his best to be professional and friendly, "I understand ma'am but I was called for specifically to I guess provide a check up for you and..." his eyes moved to her hand which protectively covered her stomach. "your baby." Perhaps she was in danger and he was here to save her from it. No he was but a doctor, how could he protect her unless she was ill.

Somehow he felt like he was there to do more for her than to just check up on her. For the time being though he would simply do his job and make sure everything was alright with her health.

"If you'll please just, let me have a look." He looked around, "I can't go back to my office knowing I didn't do my job out here. Please help me keep my conscious clear and just let me do a routine check." He pleaded, not knowing why he wanted to help her so badly.

Nadia stepped back from the man before her,a doctor...why would someone send a doctor to her? Her mind swirled, trying to figure it all out. Blinking, she realised she still stood in her nightshirt, she felt the heat creep up into her cheeks. "I don't know what this is about, but please come in."She said as she glkanced around them, making sure noone else was with him.

Nadia moved into the living room, motioning for him to sit. "Please..I will be right back."She said as she turned and vanished down the hallway. She entered her room and leaned her body against the closed door. Her heart racing, she scented him. She picked up a faint familiar trace but that was impossible. She groaned softly as her babe picked that moment to kick her sharply in the ribs.

"Easy..." She cooed trying to calm herself, the baby seemed to always know when she was upset, stirring as if to calm her. She had less than a month to go,then she could travel better and further away. Noone was going to take her child from her,she would kill if anyone tried. Pushing away from the door, she went to her dresser and ulled out a pair of light blue shorts. Sliding into them and pulling her hair back into a ponytail she left her room.

"I have to apologise..."She began as she entered the room." But whoever sent you must have been mistaken. My family docotor saw me last month,he said everything was fine." She moved across the room, her movements still silent and graceful until she bent to sit down. The baby kicked harder taking her breath from her. She dropped harder into the chair than she planned, rubbing at the round bump.

"Sorry ,he seems to know when I'm upset."She said smiling as she talked about the baby. She tensed when her cell phone rang. The number was well known to her and she groaned to herself. Pushing herself to her feet she moved towards the kitchen. "Excuse me..." She said to Brian before closing the kitchen door behind her.

"I know it is almost time for the baby to arrive...do us and yourself a favor and come back home." Bastian's voice growled into the phone. Nadia tensed, feeling the cloud of dread wash over her. " You can't stay hidden for long...I will find you. Then you will be sorry you put me through so much fucking trouble."

"You will never get my child..." She hissed into her phone, the growl escaping her throat before she could sto it. Her eyes blazed as she tried to control her anger. "I will kill you or anyone else that tries. My child will be your downfall, you will never get him." She tried to calm down, not realising she had begun to say him when referring to the baby. She slammed her phone down on the table and gripped the sides of it.

She had to control herself, her body screamed to change to let loose the beast inside of her. Her skin felt on fire, her hands curled on the wood. Her nails turned into sharp claws, digging deep into the table. Shaking she tossed her head back, hissing in pain as she fought the beast back. Her breathing became ragged and her eyes burned. She had to control herself...if only Mikhail was there. He had always been able to calm her, anchor her to her human form in the early stages of her pregnancy. It was becoming harder to fight the urge, but if she shifted she would lose her child.

Brian could sense something was wrong. No matter what she told him, she was not okay, and she was not fine. He didn't know how he knew that, or how he picked up on her intense level of stress but he could feel it. He could feel it as if it were something solid dancing across his skin. He wanted to tell her to sit down and let him look her over, if for nothing more than for his ease of mind, but he let her send him to the living room and he waited on the couch for her.

There was something different about the air in the house. Not wrong, just different, a smell of something that he couldn't place, something that wasn't even tangible. It was something that should have bothered him, but oddly enough he felt more comfortable within it than he felt anywhere else.

When she came back she started to insist that she was fine. Though she clearly was in some discomfort from the baby and she tried to blow it off as excuses. "If you are upset then something is wrong. Maybe I can help you."

She started to protest but the phone rang. Brian sat and listened, though it was hard not to burst over and grab the phone over there so he could tell whoever was on the line to leave the woman alone or he will over stress the baby. His harassment could cause her to miscarage and at such a late stage it could destroy her system to the point that she could never try to have children again.

When she hung up he leaned forward, "Ma'am, if you are in danger or being threatened by someone maybe you should be in police custody. They could keep you protected. Out here you are alone and...."

She doubled over in pain, and Brian snapped to his feet. He watched her grip the armrests and grunt with a noise that could almost have been a growl. He put his arm around her shoulders, ignoring he warning looks.

"Calm yourself please, you'll hurt your child. Take deep breaths and count to ten for me ok? Look I'll do it with you, come on. One, Two....."

Nadia felt his hands on her shoulders, then wrapping around her. His rders to coun toten made her look over her shoulder at him. Mikhail had done the same thing. She stared at Brian, unaware her eyes, nose and mouth had semi shifted into a small muzzle...taking a deep breath she easily brokeaway from him.

"I am safer here than in town,he owns everyone..in any state. I think he even had my husband killed." She said faintly before sitting down on a chair and taking small deep breaths. The babe finally quieting down so she could relax abit. "There is a whole lot you dont understand here, maybe never will." She sais softly rising her now normal green eyes at him,

She broke away from him, not so much because she just forced herself away, but more because he let her go. His mind was playing tricks on him. Did her face deform in front of his eyes? What color were her eyes normally? He blinked and shook his head.

"WHo is he? What does he want from you and if he had your husband killed why haven't you called the police?" He asked, looking at her. She was normal, he must have just been imagining thing.

He stood up and looked at her. "Look even if you are hiding from this guy and running scared from the cops as well, clearly you are doing a shitty job at it because he knows how to call you, if he can call you then he knows where you are."

He knelt in front of her and looked up into her eyes. He was memorized by her eyes. A big part of him felt like he knew her, intimately. IT was this part that pulled him so deeply toward needed to help her, to make sure she was safe. Her and her baby.

"Let me help you. I can help, just tell me how."

Nadia looked down at him for several long minutes before moving into the living room. She returned with a picture of Mikhail. "This is my husband,Mikhail Romanav. I thought you were he at first. You could have been his exact twin." She said handing him the photo. "What did the man tell you on the phone besides to come here."She said hoping he could give her clues if h was alive or not.

She grimaced as this kick to the belly was lower than normal and she let out a whoosh of air,,sweat beading along her forehead. "That was a strong one...he is getting close to making his appearance." She spoke through gritted teeth at the next kick of pain.

Brian took the photo of the man who had been her husband and he stared at it in shock. He was adopted so he supposed it shouldn't be too impossible to have a twin brother out there in the world somewhere, but if that was the case how had they become separated? Did someone adopt his brother when they were infants and left Brian to another possible family?

He couldn't believe it. IF this was his brother, then where was he? Why was he not here with his wife taking care of her?

His head snapped up. "There was a man that called me on the phone and told me about you. He called you his wife, but he gave me no further information. He said that I was the only one who could help you now and he called be his brother." He lowered the picture. "Could the man that called me have been your husband?" He asked her.

She doubled over with the force of what she assumed was a kick from the baby. But no baby could kick that hard, only a contraction could have caused her that much pain.

"Sit down hurry. I need to see you. That might have been more than a simple kick, I need to feel for contractions." He told her stepping up to her and putting a hand on her stomach gently.

Nadia tried to not let her emotions get the best of her,Mikhail had been missing for 6 months. He would not stay away that long unless he had no choice. She gasped as the pain refused to subside and lowered herself into a chair. She felt Brian's hands on her stomach and the look on his face was the professional once more.

She bit her lips as another smaller pain raced over her,her hands clenched the arm of the chair tightly. "He can't be born yet...not here. They know where I am at."She panted out between each flash of pain. Her eyes lifted to look at Brian, pleading. "Please...help me. I won't let them take my baby."

Her next cry came out louder and her body arched upwards. She felt the rush of water as it poured down her inner thighs and legs. It was too late to stop the birth, her baby was coming. She felt the hard kicks and flutters from deep within her womb. She panted in between contractions, her hands digging deeply into the chair. Her nails growing and tearing the material, from deep within her throat a low howl began until it escapedher lips. She twisted her head backand forth controlling her change.

She could feel her baby trying to emerge, but he was larger than most babes and her his too narrow. She grunted, straining, everything around her blocked out as she concentrated.

All of the mystery out of this entire situation faded away the moment Brian saw her water break. He knew that no matter what she wanted, that baby wanted out of her. Brian switched into doctor mode right away, he grabbed the lever on the chair and jerked out the footrest forcing her to recline a little bit which would be better for her.

He told her to remain calm and breath deeply while he went to find towels and to grab some tools from his bag. The labor seemed intense, as he scrambled around for towels he could hear her moaning, and mentally he tried to count how far apart her contractions were.

Something was odd about this labor, her contractions were coming to quick like the baby couldn't wait to get out of her.

It was only two hours after her water broke, which was quite out of the ordinary, until the baby was born. Brian wrapped the baby up in towel's after cutting the cord. He gave Nadia some medicine to help with the pain, but Nadia seemed to be recover quickly.

Brian sat beside her, letting her hold her baby. "I think you should tell me what is going on here. I cant help if I don't know what is happening."

The birth was a blur to Nadia, she felt her child fighting to come into the world. She was vaguely aware of Brian as she panted, pushing her child into the world. Her son came into the world screaming with an intensity that sounded like a howl. She clutched him tightly to her chest after Brian cleaned and wrapped him,her eyes checking him to make sure he was perfect.

Brian's words finally broke through her haze as she nestled the babe to her breast. Taking a deep breath she let it out slowly. "You better pour us a strong cup of coffee because what I'm going to tell you will sound like a movie."She said softly as she turned her eyes to look down into the same blue eyes of her husband looking back at her. "Your name will be Chance Michael Romanov."She whispered softly lacing a tender kiss to his brow as he fed.

Brian took a deep breath and nodded, getting up to go into the kitchen and find something to drink. He knew what she was going to say was not going to make sense, much less be actually believable, but he needed to hear it anyway. If for nothing more than to try and find out if he did ever in fact have a twin brother.

HE heard her name her baby and he smiled as he came back into the room with a cup of coffee. "That sounds like a very nice name." He paused and looked at her, "Romanov, is that my brother's name? My name?"

Nadia shifted to let the now sleeping child lay at her side, her eyes met Brian's and she nodded. "Yes...your brother's name is Mikhail. You are the last in the long line of very high up people."She said softly trying to figure out just how to tell him about his heritage. "You see the Romanov's are rather...unique." She cleared her throat, glancing around them as if afraid someone would overhear.

"My bloodline isnt as strong as theirs, yet I too am like them." She looked back at Brian, then lifted her hand. Now that she was no longer carrying her child she could shift. She watched his reaction as her hand grew longer, her nails turned into claws,a light brownish-red fur covered her hand.

"We are shifters..or in layman's terms...Lycanthropes."

Brain jerked back as if she had smacked him. He hand had shimmered and ripped itself into a new horrid shape right before his eyes. The skin becoming furry and her fingers turning into long sharp claws.

"What the fuck!" He cried trying not to run. He looked at her and watched her calm demeanor. It was like she warned him, shit right out of a movie. Hell she kind of hate a Kate Beckensale look to her.

He took a breath and held up his hand. "Are you saying that you are a werewolf? Thats not possible."

Nadia sighed and nodded. "If you want to use that word...yes. But we dont need a full moon."She said trying not to sshow how much she despised that word. "We can be killed like anyone else,it just takes more since we heal much faster. Silver can be a pain in the ass if used as shackles,it keeps use from shifting.

She moved slowly, standing and walking over to lie Chance down on the couch before turning to him. "That is why I didnt need the pain meds after Chance was born. I'm still weak but almost fully recovered." She paced back and forth in front of the couch in a protective move.

"My father-in-law thinks my child is the answer to securing his bloodline. He wants to corrupt Chance. Make him into something ruthless. I will not allow that to happen."She said and her eyes blazed with her hatred.

"Mikhail was wanting to leave and go off to begin a new life, then he vanished. I had nowhere else to go until a friend helped me get here. But then he knows my every move. He will know soon that the baby has been born. "She sank down onto the couch next to Chance. "That is why I have to move again."

The doctor in Brian wanted to tell her to sit back down and rest, bjt everything she said had him watching her carefully. She moved differently, smoother than normal, strongrr even. She didnt even seem to be fatigued anymore from birth. Nothing like this should have been possible, but it was happening.

"Then where do I fall into this. Im not a werewolf I probably would have noticed. If you are running from a group of monsters then I cant help you, and it looks to me like running away is a waste of time since they keep finding you. So whats the plan?" He eyed her, sniffing something strange. There was something in the air around her now, violence and anger maybe.

Nadia stoped, her head jerking around. She could smell them, they were coming. "You are a hidden link." She moved quickly, gathering Chance u and handing him to Brian. "Take Chance...keep him safe."She said as she turned to face the front door, her body tensing as she bent at the knees. Her body tensed and the skin seemed to ripple n waves along her back.

The shift coming easy once it began, her growl filled the room as the door shattered inward. Her body already leaping through the air, confident Chance was safe for now. her arm swiped out,her claws finding skin and fur. The roar of pain filled the room as Nadia crashed full force into a much larger lycan.

Her lithe body wrapped around the male lycan, her claws digging deely into his flesh. Her eyes meeting Brian's in a silent plea for him to kee the baby safe. The male lycan reached arund and grabbed Nadia by he back of the neck, fliping her over him and across the room. The wooden table shattered from the force, nadia shook her head trying to clear it as the other Lycan turned its attention to Brian and Chance.

Everything happened so fast. Brian suddenly found himself holding the baby and thr front door explode with inhuman sounds. Brian scrambled to get up ducking a flying piece of.wood. He turned back to see Nadia no longer human, her wolf eyes glaring at him, pleading him in silence as her claws dug into flesh.

The smell of blood filled the room and Brian felt his heart beat skyrocket. He snuggled the baby closer to his chest and turned to run away. He heard a yelp of pain and the crash of wood. Now the wolf guy turned toward him, having dispatched Nadia with ease.

Brian felt the blood.pumping in his ears. The sounds of.wolves howled through his head. He saw the wolf leap toward him in slow motion. He was dead, he had failed. Still he raised his hand up in a futile effort to save the baby and hopefully himself as well.

Something came.crashing through the window, big and furry as well and smashed into the leaping wolf just as it slashed Brians chest. He stagged back and cried out, not waiting to see what happened. But as he darted out the back door, he heard not one but three wolves chasing him. He only hoped one was Nadia.

A wolf leapt at him, Brian felt the tension in the air as the massive beast flew toward him. Brian ducked and the wolfs face met a thick oak tree with a sickening crunch. Brian kept running.

Nadia cleared her head and with a quick howl leapt through the backdoor after the group. Her sights set on the remaining wolf as it drew neare to Brian and her baby, with an unworldly howl she launched her body. She crashed into the larger wolf just as it took a swie at Brian, the force hurled them into Brian who sheltered Chnce with his own body.

Nadia rolled with the other until she was straddling ato him,her eyes filled with her frenzy. The need to kill and protect full blown in her very being. She lifted her clawed hands to wr around the other;s throaat, bloodcurdling sounds emerged from him as he relaised she had a death lock on him. Her hands tightened and then she moved quickly, her head descended in a flash.

Her canines ripped the front of his throat out, blood gurgled from his lips as he lost the ability to remain in wolf form. Nadia moved, wiping her hand across her mouth as she too began to shift back. Her breath coming in gulps, blood covering her body, her eyes returning to their emerald hue. She turned her head and thought she caught a glimpse of repulsion from Brian, but in the light and shadows she wasnt sure.

She saw the blood staining the front of his shirt and she quickly moved to him. Taking the baby as he sank into a sitting position against a tree. Her hand reached out the rip the front of his shirt, she grimaced at the furrows running across his skin. "If you dont have any lycan traits...It is going to be a long couple days for you." She said as she looked around them. "Is there any place we can go...you will need to adjust to the next few nights."

Brian slumped against the tree. He had tried hard to keep the baby safe, the wolf that had smashed into the tree had become human shortly after hitting the ground, his neck hanging at an odd angle. Werewolves, real fucking werewolves, he could believe what he was seeing. There was nothing that could argue what he saw, but part of him still couldn't accept that this was happening.

He wanted to go back to his office and forget this happened. He winced and touched his chest, he was bleeding but not that badly. He looked down and wondered why he wasn't bleeding worse. The wound was pretty deep, his muscle torn. It burned though, his chest felt like it was melting it was so hot.

Brian looked up and saw Nadia coming toward him, her eyes scanning for her baby which Brian had craddled in one arm.

She spoke to him but he didn't really hear her. "What? My chest hurts, I need to get stitched up before I bleed to death." He tried to stand up and found that his legs didn't work very well. "Ugh, okay. Do you have any thread and needles in the house? I can sew myself, but it will suck. I can't seem to move."
