Chris was sweeping the long curving drive when he saw the chauffeur drive the big black Mercedes up to the front door of the Hill mansion. He leaned on his rake and watched as Senator Hill and his daughter came out of the house and got into the back of the car and sped away. He wondered what life was like for his half sister. As the bastard son, he and his mother were not welcome in the big house and barely tolerated as minions on the estate.

What might have been common knowledge for the rest of the staff, that Chris was her half brother, it was kept under wraps from Anna. To her, Chris was just another employee of her father's to keep the groups. When they were younger though they had been playmates... It wasn't until Anna was ten, the year her mother divorced her father did he forbid her from spending anymore time with him. She wasn't even allowed to say hello to him, though every now and then when she saw him and her father was not around she gave him a smile.

Today she was seeing her father off to the airport. He was going on a long trip and wasn't sure when he would be back. She would be in charge of the house, which wouldn't be different from any other time really. If she wanted to she could have a party or something but she was pretty shy and quiet for that.

Anna has gone to school after dropping her father off. She didn't return home until the afternoon. Her school tie that was in a perfect knot this morning was now untied and hanging around her neck. Her long brown hair had been tied in a braid and was now free and wavy. The day was nice out so instead of going to her room she went into the garden instead. She found a stone bench that was placed among the flowers and pulled out a notebook which she started writing notes in.

Chris looked up from weeding the roses and saw Anna sitting in the garden about 100 feet away. She didn't seem to notice him kneeling there. He thought of the good times they had when they were children and how much he had enjoyed her company. He had never found anyone else quite like her. Now, however, that seemed like the distant past.

It was not that Chris had trouble finding girlfriends. He was handsome, had the same brown hair as Anna, blue eyes, and was slender and muscular. He had been an outstanding athlete in high school and had dated many desirable girls. A good student, he was enrolled in junior college while working at the estate to help support his mother and himself.

Chris wanted to say something to Anna, but it had been so long since they had talked, he wasn't sure how to approach her. “I suppose I should just let things be”, he said to himself. “It is probably for the best”.

After a while, Anna picked her head up and looked around. Her eyes fell on Chris. Her first instinct told her that she wasn't supposed to talk to him... Her father would get mad. She still didn't understand why. Well, Daddy wasn't here now.

Closing her book, she stood up and walked over as he was busy pulling weeds. He seemed to be focused on his word since he hadn't noticed that she approached him. She cleared her throat, "Ahem....Um... Hi." She awkwardly greeted him. She wasn't sure what else to say, but at least this was a start.

Chris looked up into the most beautiful face he had ever imagined. For a moment he was speechless. “Uh … Hello, Anna,… I didn't see you come up.” He stood up. “It has been a long time … How are you? … How is school?”

He thought, “I have to do better than this. I haven't spoken to her in a long time, don't waste this opportunity.”

He thought of their old friendship. “Do you remember playing in this garden when we were kids? You were as tough and adventurous as any of the boys and twice the fun. … Those were good days.”

"School's fine. The school year is almost over. Then it's off to college in the spring," She smiled brightly at him. Her heart was pounding. She wasn't use to being the more bold person, but soon she was finding her stride. It helps that she and Chris were friends before.

She listened to him as he recalled their days when they were kids. "That seems so long ago. I miss those days. We had a lot of fun together." She paused for a moment as she thought about what to say next.

"Dad... is going to be gone for a few days... Do you think.... Um... Maybe we could catch up?" it felt strange to ask because she saw him every day but they didn't talk anymore. Maybe she would find out why her father was so set against him being near her.

Chris looked at her sweet and innocent face and thought “does she not know why we have been kept apart?” He was about to say something more, but heard a door slam and looked up to see, Hilda, the housekeeper standing on the back patio staring at the toward them. “Her again”. She was the problem. The housekeeper, that witch, hired by John Hill after his divorce to run the house. And run it she did, to her own advantage. It was she who had convinced John Hill that keeping Chris and his mother so close would cost him his political career. And so, Chris and his mother had been banished to a small cottage on the far edge of the huge estate where they lived,in near poverty, under John Hill's patronage. Chris’s mother, now in poor health, was unable to work and what little extra they had was provided by Chris’s income from working on the estate. Chris had vowed he would confront John Hill some day, but only after he was sure he could take care of his mother.

As for Anna, she had always been his special friend, someone he could confide with when they were younger. Now he had no one with whom to share his concerns and dreams. Although he gone through many girl friends, none had shared his confidence. How he wished they could be as open as they had been when they were young and he was still naive.

He must think quickly. It would not do for the witch to see him talking to Anna. There would be “hell to pay” as John Hill had told him.

“Maybe we can see each other, Anna….I would like that,… but not here. Maybe we can meet at the pond on Fisher’s creek late this afternoon,…say 6 o’clock? Do you remember where it is on the south farm?”

Anna's smile widened. "I would like that, and yeah I know where that is."

Before she could say anything else, Hilda has called for her to come inside. That woman had the same disapproving look her father would give. What was it about being near Chris that had everyone so upset? Anna would ask him later that evening.

"I'll see you later!" She gave him one last smile before going inside to work on homework before it was time to meet him later.

Chris watched her retreat to the house. “ I have always thought of Anna as my sister, my friend, never in any other way, ... but ... she is so sweet and beautiful ... and taboo .... what should I do ... I can’t hurt her...”

His mind was troubled all that afternoon. He shouldn’t have told her he would meet her. It could only bring him grief. Their lives were so different now ... Still ... she was so beautiful ... so fresh ... so exciting...

He went home and showered, put on clean clothes and prepared to meet Anna. His mother, Sara, asked, “Got a date tonight?” ... “Er, no mom, just visiting a friend.”

With a troubled mind he set off to meet Anna.

As Chris left home his mind drifted back 8 years to the time his life was changed by events in the big house. That was the year that the Hills divorced, Chris' mother, a maid in the mansion, was banished, and he and Anna were forced apart.

He remembered Anna’s mother as a kind, fun loving lady who had a certain sadness about her. Even as a child, he had recognized John Hill as a wealthy, proud, ambitious, controlling, and sometimes cruel man. It must have become too much for her. It was widely rumored that she had run away with another man, but all he knew was that she had left and his world changed.

The sun was warm and dusk would be late. There was a gentle breeze. The trees and grass were in their finest green and there was a soft smell of honeysuckle in the air. But as beautiful as it was, all was not pretty in Chris’ mind that evening.

Anna had changed from her uniform and into a white sun dress that hugged her bust and had two straps that tied on top of her shoulders. The dress came to mid thigh and she wore a pair of simple sandles. In her hair there was a powder blue rose clipped into her brown hair. It was almost summer so the sun was still out and it was warm.

In her hands she carried a basket. They were only meant to meet together and talk, catch up and maybe she would find out why they had to stop being friends. Since it was in the evening she assumed that Chris might not have eaten, so while Hilda wasn't looked she managed to grab some food and some cola.

She smiled and waved as soon as she could see Chris. Her feet picked up the pace trying to carry her faster to her half brother. By the time she stopped she was out of breath but her smile never fell. "Sorry I'm a little late," she took in a breath "I thought you might be hungry." She held up the basket which held their meal for the night.

Chris arrived at their meeting place a few minutes before 6. He looked at the pond. It was just as he remembered it when he and Anna had played here so many years before. What good times. When they were younger they were accompanied by her mother but when they were older they came alone on horses and brought the dogs along. It was here that, as a 12 year old, that he had developed the first tingling of sexual attraction toward her. Those feelings had now been quelled by their long separation. He found a cool spot under the big oak tree that stood beside the widened part of the creek they called the pond. He sat in the grass and leaned against the trunk. The sun was warm and he closed his eyes for a few minutes. When he opened them, he saw Anna walking across the meadow. He watched as she approached. Her wave and her smile took away his apprehensions about meeting her. He looked at her beautiful figure silhouetted through the sundress by the sunlight. “She is so beautiful”, he thought. “Why does she have to be my sister?”

He got up and met her smiling.“Hi, Anna. I’m so glad to see you. I was afraid you might not come. By the way, you look beautiful.” He held out his strong browned arm, took hers and the basket. “Here, let’s sit under the tree where we have had so many picnics.”

Anna laughed a bit as his words came off a bit silly, but it was true that they had enjoyed their time there when they were younger. She blushed a bit at the compliment he gave her. It was then that she really looked at Chris and noticed how handsome he was. The work around the estate definitely helped to define his muscles from what she could see.

They settled under the tree and Anna pulled out some sandwiches and chips. "So you're in college now, right?" She asked curiously. "What are you studying?"

“I’m in pre-engineering ... That is as far as I can go in Community college. If I can get a scholarship or raise the money I’ll go to the U. Where are you going next year?”

Chris leaned back against the tree. Damn, Anna was pretty sitting there across from him. While he thought for something to say, he took a bite of his sandwich and took a sip of his soda.

Anna told Chris that she was planning on going to the same school her father went to... Well, he was deciding that. He wanted her to take over the family business. Anna wanted to be a writer. Thankfully that was something she could do on the side as a hobby.

"How is your mom? I haven't seen her for a while," she asked. She genuinely didn't know that she wasn't doing well. She smiled as she thought back to when they were kids again, "She made the best lemon cookies. They were soft and buttery... And of course tasted like lemons."

Chris may have appeared cool and relaxed but within his mind was racing and his emotions high. Since their forced separation, Anna had been for the most part out of his mind, unattainable, something well beyond his reach. Now that she was here, just inches away, old feelings returned. She was so alluring, her figure so perfectly complimented by the sundress, her hair falling so softly on her shoulders, her face so pretty, her smile so sweet. Any consideration of their relationship to one another was buried under other emotions.

Anna’s voice came to him as through a fog, “ …your mom?”

“Oh, … not well I’m afraid. … She hasn't been able to work for over two years now … Her MS is getting worse. … How is your mom? What do you hear from her?”

(sorry for the confusion again ;^; )

"Oh... I'm so sorry to hear that," She gave Chris a sympathetic smile as she reached out and gently touched his thigh. It wasn't meant to be sexual, but comforting between to long lost friends. She felt sad at how much she seemed to have missed on her own estate. She had lost and gained back a dear friend and now she came to learn that his mother was ill.

The question of her own mother brought her out of her self loathing and reminded her of what else she had lost. She shook her head. "Haven't heard from her since the night before she left... I remember that she tucked me in and that she would see me in the morning..." She sighed but forced a smile at him.

"It's in a past now. Lets not waste time dwelling on it."

Anna’s touch further reinforced the emotions stirring in Chris. He wasn't sure what to do next. Suddenly, looking over Anna’s shoulder, he saw, across the creek, a young buck drinking from the still water. Chris put his left hand on Anna’s right shoulder and pointed with his right arm the direction of the animal. “Look a buck”. This action brought his head close to hers. There was a sweet smell in her hair as it brushed lightly against his face. His hand felt the soft warmth of her bare shoulder. Without thinking he lightly kissed her neck….Then … “OMG”, he thought, “why did I do that … have I gone too far ... have I ruined everything?”

Anna's eyes went to were Chris indicated the woodland creature was. Sure enough, there was a tall and proud buck grazing along the tall grass. This was one of the perks of living here, getting to see creatures like this moving along peacefully. Silently she wished how she would have remembered her sketch book, this would have been the perfect time to-

A pair of warm and soft lips had came into contact with her neck. She could feel the heat start rising as she blushed. Turning her head to look at Chris, she wondered why he did that, but when she turned her lips just landed right on top of his. Her eyes widened at the accidental kiss, her face becoming even more red with every passing second.

A warm wave passed through Chris at her touch. It was unlike anything he had ever experienced. He had never felt anything like this with any of the girls from school. He wrapped his arms around Anna from behind and simply held her close. Her body was soft and warm. Their cheeks touched and he could feel the heat in hers.

Chris did not move but his mind was racing. “How had he let this happen? She was his half sister. Did she not know? Should he be having these feelings? Did she feel them too? Let me just hold her a few moments more,” he thought.

Finally he released her. “It is getting dark”, he said quietly. “We had better go before you are missed at home. … “I’ll walk you as far as the gate. We mustn't let Hilda see you.”

Sadie was confused as Chris held her close, but she made no moves to pull away. The warmth from his body was warm and inviting. She moved in closer, allowing her head to rest on his chest.

And then it seemed like their sweet embrace ended. It was still very much bright out, however Sadie simply nodded to the excuse he gave to cutting their meeting short. They packed up the picnic and walked back towards the house. There was something eating at Sadie, something she never understood but she had a strange feeling that Chris knew.

"Why... why can't Hilda see me, with you? I know for some reason father limits you to working in the garden, but why?"

Chris looked at Anna. “I guess it is time to talk.” He saw the old hay barn in the corner of the field. “Lets go in the old hay barn. I’ll tell you what I know.”
The old barn was shaded and dark. The bales were stacked neatly and one could sit on a bale and lean against the stack. The hay smelled sweet. Chris sat close to Anna allowing his thigh to rest against hers.

“Anna, do you remember uncle Jack’s car accident (Jack was John Hill's older brother)? I'm sure that is what started it all. Remember how worried your mother was? How she wanted him to convalesce at your house, how she wanted to help take care of him? Remember how your dad (he didn’t mention HIS dad as well) instead hired Hilda to nurse him? Uncle Jack seemed to be recovering, then shortly after Hilda arrived he suddenly died. Your mother seemed to almost panic after that happened. Then, right after his funeral she suddenly disappeared. After that, I was banished from the house.Your dad went from tolerating me to loathing me. I’m not sure how but I think everything is connected to uncle Jack’s accident and his death, especially your mother’s disappearance.”

Chris put his arm around Anna’s shoulder. “There, that is what I know about the past, and this is what I know about the future.... I want us to be together.” He squeezed her tight and took her hand in his.

Anna barely remembered Uncle Jack, but Chris's retelling of the events did remind her of the man who stayed with them for a brief amount of time and would read her storied when she crawled into the massive bed with him, which sometimes Chris had been there too. Just before Chris and his mother were pushed away from being in the house.

"You know, I don't think she likes me very much," Referring to Hilda. "She gets on me about everything and when father isn't around she goes around like she owns the place. She's probably in Daddy's office now drinking down his brandy."

She felt his hand take hers and she looked up at him after he confessed what he wanted for the two of them. Anna's cheeks flushed as she knew she couldn't deny those feelings either. "I would like that too." It felt like her stomach was filled with air as she squeezed his hand back.

Chris gently pushed her backward against the hay bales. Giving way to his passions, he kissed her deeply and pressed her body against his own. He could feel the softness of her breasts against his chest and the warmth of her body. He pressed his right thigh between her soft thighs as he lay atop her. He wanted her more than he had ever wanted anything in his life. Other girls had been pleasures of the moment, but it was different with Anna. He didn't want her just for this one moment but for all time. And there was the problem. she was his sister! He couldn't have her, could he? What will happen when she finds out she is his sister? Will she reject him completely? Will he loose her forever?
