The link below is a monograph written by Jeffery Snyder over 20 years ago. It attacks the notion of having a society incapable of defending itself, more particularly the individual. Read with care and discuss.

"A Nation of Cowards."

Ohhhh more RW ignoring of reality to persist in delusions of what they think should be instead of what is....

I'm shocked this came from Ish

"This is demonstrated not only by the ineffectualness of gun control in preventing crime.."
but lack of gun control does not prevent crime either. Crime statistics are very similar for US, UK, Can, Aus and NZ. Except for gun killings. Guns do not prevent crime. If they did the US would have crime rates far below their cousin countries with similar cultures. In fact crime rates such as deaths by guns are far in excess of same cousin countries.

You cannot use crime statistics to support gun ownership. You must use visceral emotions and fear of ... whoever/whatever or fall back on outdated political statements superseded by implementation of such things as a standing army..

Guns do not deter criminals. The numbers prove that. If they did the US would be the safest country in the world and we all know that is not true.

Who is being killed and how? How has "gun free" zones saved the innocent?

Why, amongst the industrialized nations, is the US is 17th on the order of crime victimization?

Yes, the liberal catechism. Raw emotion and fear, the tool of the politician. The convincing of the populace that only the government can protect them. Convince the population that the police are indeed personal body guards so as to disarm them.

Yes indeed, amongst the industrialized nations we DO have the highest firearm murder rate. But for the most part these are cockroaches killing cockroaches. In a bizarre fashion they are doing society a service, or at least saving taxpayers dollars. I really don't care if the South Side Chicago drug dealers are killing each other over territorial disputes. Or the cartel dealers in SE Albuquerque. And the notion that passing a law, a law that only the law abiding will adhere to, is ludicrous in the extreme.

Another relic of thinking for the Museum of Aging Wingnut Futility.

How 'bout just focusing on your Family of Cowards?

You and your frat boy do champion the "right" to intentionally kill totally innocent and vulnerable babies, right pops?

They're good to eat.

Idiot.

Niggers make the case for guns every day we live. Outlaw guns and only niggers will have guns.

Be that as it may, guns do not prevent crime.

Okay, lots of thugs dying. Many of the dead children are only technically youths as they range as high as 24 years old. But what about the hundreds who are below the age of lets say 14?

But guns still do not prevent crime.

Is the US rape, burglary or assault crime rates far lower than cousin countries?
No they are not.

Guns do not prevent crime.

Thugs killing thugs is still a crime. Innocent bystanders are killed many times in drug fueled war drive-bys.

How many children under the age of 14 killed by guns is an acceptable number? Go ahead. Put a figure to it. One a week? What the hell that's only 50 odd children killed. Quite acceptable losses to protect all the rest. Right?

Would removing guns increase crime rates? Figures from cousin countries says not. Get rid of guns and crime does not go up.

Guns do not prevent crime.

The basic premise of having both the right to defend and expectation of defending yourself without government assistance is solid, albeit moreso in rural than urban areas.

(In rural canada, most households have a shotgun, hunting rifle or both.)

Urban sociology is less about the individual....i think that's the relationship as density increases.... Hence the subcontracting of personal safety to police, as they are more ubiquitous in more densely populated spaces.

That is also why the custom of checking your guns at the door came about... There are places where people agree guns are not needed.

There is nothing cowardly with making the entire country a place where guns arent needed....unrealistic maybe, but its a lovely notion.

In rural Canada guns are for used primarily for hunting not for personal home protection. Rural Canada is not plagued with roaming bands of thugs or even individuals committing crimes. In rural Canada a large dog suffices as home protection. Who gets out of a vehicle on a farm with a large dog waiting outside? Most farms have "Beware of Dog" signs. This usually is all it takes.

Money doesn't stop debt, shit for brains.

I was addressing the Article's statements about the ability to defend oneself in the absence of government security forces.

A person who spews 24/7 and calls everyone names from the behind he safety of his keyboard calls others cowards.

That's irony.

Dr. Daeshik Kim in his book on Taekwondo had this observation [paraphrase]. If I cannot defend myself and I offer the other cheek, it is because it is the only thing I can do. If I can defend myself and then I choose to offer the other cheek, then it is a noble action.

Other than that, the article is very much the belief system that I have advocated for a long time.

Two rational replies and the rest are exactly as described by the article; hate, invective, name-calling...

The actions of a mindless mob.

I would not sat cowardly as I understand that this is done with the best of intention. The only problem is focusing on the gun knowing full well that without it there is the knife, the sword, the machete, the axe, the hammer, the bomb, the arsonist, the automobile, ad infinitum... The manner in which human beings can bring violence upon each other is limited only to their creativity or insanity.

If there is a violence or safety problem, eliminating the gun, will not eliminate the problem which is a lesson we should have learned from France, or in our own back yard, places like Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Oakland...

;) ;)

Simple minds crave simple solutions, they learn nothing.
