Inapproxiamtely one hour from now, at 0158 GMT, it will be exactly 57 years since the B-29, "Bock's Car," relaesed it's bomb over Nagasaki, Japan.

From http://39th.org/39th/history/damagephotos/nagasaki.htm

JAPAN - A second atomic bomb is dropped on Japan. A B-29 from the 509th CG leaves North Field, Tinian at 0230 hours; The B-29 is followed by 2 observation B-29's. The primary target, Kokura, is obscured by bad weather; the attack is made against the secondary target, Nagasaki. The bomb, dropped from 28,900 feet at 1058 hours (local), explodes one minute after release. Japanese report 24,000 killed. The attacking B-29's refuel on Okinawa, and return to Tinian by 2339 hours.

Whatever your feelings about whether the bomb should have been dropped or war in general, Please join me in a minute of silence at 0158 9 Aug 2002 GMT.

Let us join together in the fervent hope that Nagasaki will forever be the LAST city to suffer the effect of a nuclear explosion.

I'd forgotten, which is actually a good thing. But the occasional reminder is equally as valuable.

The exact moment has passed...

and I thank everyone who participated.

For those who come late to this thread, that doesn't mean your fervent hopes that Nagasaki remains the last victim won't be wasted.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki need to be remembered so that history doesn't repeat what befell them -- improvements in technology since 1946 would make a repeat so much more horrible and destructive that it canot be allowed to happen.

Just Remember....

The fucking reason for us having to bomb the Japs in the first place! Remember the MILLIONS who perished under Japanese rule! Corregidor/Nanking/Korea/Burma/Phillipines/New Zealand/Australia/Malaysia/Solomons/Guadacanal/Saipan/Okinawa/Vietnam/Pelileu/Tarawa/Midway/Iwo Jima/Guam and every where else those bastards at that time placed their footprints.
Let's not forget the Research done by the Japs on allied POWs that would make Mengele look like a boy scout!
Let's not forget the Axis powers were working on their own atomic devices! After the surrender, we found the motherfucker's were pretty damn close...MONTHS behind our project!
And let's not forget the people who were in WW2 in the Pacific. My Father, as a kid I remember him waking up the house screaming that the fucking Kamikazes were inbound!!!!! He's almost eighty now, and still has to sleep alone in a separate bedroom from my Mother.

*I'll remember alright! I'll blow my fucking car horn, and praise the godz that we fucking won that war!! :D

So I take it you're not in favor of Nagasaki being the last[/i] city bombed?

Who do you have in mind to assume the title?

its been done, it is in the past.

we have seen the results on know we never want it to happen again.

I understand why it was done, and agree it was a means to an end.

As Harold said in his original post "Whatever your feelings about whether the bomb should have been dropped or war in general"

I hope it was the last.

When you see how the Japs treated the POWs etc and how they may of treated others if they had won the war, then the bomb must of seemed an easy button to push....

BUT let it not happen again to another country..... :rose:
