A Man was jailed for trying to pass a million dollar bill with the picture of President Grover Cleveland on it. [President Grover Cleveland's picture was on the legal $1,000 bill.] OK, the bill was counterfeit and the man got what was coming to him. However, with the price of groceries what it is, maybe they need to print a real million dollar bill. Comment?

Man jailed for trying to pass $1M bill

PITTSBURGH - Change for a million? That's what a man was seeking Saturday when he handed a $1 million bill to a cashier at a Pittsburgh supermarket. But when the Giant Eagle employee refused and a manager confiscated the bogus bill, the man flew into a rage, police said.

The man slammed an electronic funds-transfer machine into the counter and reached for a scanner gun, police said.

Police arrested the man, who was not carrying identification and has refused to give his name to authorities. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

Since 1969, the $100 bill is the largest note in circulation.

Police believe the $1 million note seized at the supermarket may have originated at a Dallas-based ministry. Last year, the ministry distributed thousands of religious pamphlets with a picture of President Grover Cleveland on a $1 million bill.

I think issuing a million dollar bill is a bit extreme, but prices being what they are, maybe reissuing the $500 an $1,000 bills might be worh thinking about.

Of course, you'd have to make "No bills bigger than $20" signs illegal so stores would accept them.

Good point! For $500 a person can still buy a couple of New Yourk cut steaks and for an additional $500, a person could add a bottle of champange.

Well, to be fair, it seems like they jailed him more for flying into a rage than trying to pass the million dollar bill. The store might have given him back the bill and sent him on his way if he hadn't gotten so upset and....

 A scanner gun! Can you imagine the damage he might have done with that??

And, personally, I don't think Grover Cleveland should be on any bills. He wasn't that great a president or that important an American (hey, Franklin's on a bill, and he wasn't a president!). I say we put Martin Luther King on $1000 bill.

We have a 500Euro bill in Europe - that's about 700 US$ - never seen one. No one really accepts them as there are so few in general circulation that store keepers can't be certain whether or not they are forgeries.

In Portugese 'steak & champagne' currency, 500E is a reasonable dinner for 20 or an excellent dinner for 10. Over summer, we took 12 friends on a guided tour of Portugal, we ate in some of the best restaurants and the bill for 14 rarely exceeded 350E

I personally would favor Scrooge McDuck.

In the US, the $500, $1,000, $10,000 and $100,000 bills are no longer in circulation and are not likely to be. Everyone now uses credit cards.

I still have a fake $1 million bill that features the statue of liberty on it. It was part of a promotion from some hair salon or something.

And to think I could have passed it off as real . . . .

I'm going shopping tomorrow . . . hey, this is Texas, after all. Not the brightest kids down here :p

I received a counterfeit hundred dollar bill last time I was in Kentucky. It looked damn near perfect except for one problem. At the bottom of the bill it read: A Hunnert.
